The roads in Harare itself are in relatively good shape, so if you're going to spend most of your time here, a sedan or compact car will be all you need. If you're making an adventure of your visit and want to trek into the surrounding hinterland, then there's no better vehicle than a 4x4; although, in most cases, an MPV or SUV will be sufficient.
