Top tips for finding the perfect Snowy Mountains hotel

  • Kosciuszko National Park consists of four ski resorts – Thredbo, Perisher, Charlotte Pass and Selwyn. You have the choice of staying at one of these resorts, which is referred to as staying ‘on snow’.
  • The resort you choose to stay at depends on the type of holiday you want. Thredbo has a nice village, the only gondola around and long runs. Perisher is larger, while Charlotte Pass is smaller and a good option for families with children who are learning to ski.
  • You can also stay in the towns near the resorts, such as Jindabyne and Berrydale. These are more affordable and have more options for accommodation, but it means you will have to travel around 35 km to get to the ski slopes.
  • If you are not visiting for the snow but rather for nature, the town of Adaminaby is a good place to stay for horse riding, hiking, fishing and water sports. Accommodation options include Anglers Reach Lakeside Village, Fibbers Lodge and Denison Cottage, to name a few.
  • Tumut, Talbingo and Tumburuba are all lovely towns in the western foothills of the Snowy Mountains that have farm-to-table produce and will give you a good taste of the countryside. They are also near Yarrangobilly Caves and thermal pool, and you can even stay at Yarrangobilly Caves House in the national park.
