Del Sol Beachfront Hotel And Condos

This is an older property. The staff are courteous. We knew this when we booked, however we selected it for it's location...right on the beach. Unfortunately the current seaweed problem makes the beach unusable. It is IMPERATIVE to call or look up current pictures of this location. They do not have current pictures of the beach on the listing, make sure you check! The stench is overwhelming and it seems to be the worst right in front of the del sol. Whenever we would leave and come back you knew you were close because the stench would get stronger when you reached the hotel. They seemed to be piling it up in huge mounds behind the multicolored pallet fence that runs between the Buena Vida restaurant and the hotel. Without the benefit of the location the age and lack of amenities becomes glaringly obvious. Some of which include: no bar soap or shampoo/conditioner just foaming hand soap. The towels are old and have rust stains on them. We were eaten alive by jungle fire ants that came in through our living room window, after complaining we were switched to a different room which was higher up and also had the benefit of a lesser stench. Also the staff did come in with a can of bug spray to try and kill the fire ants. The property is advertised as having cable TV however the first room we were in only had 2 channels that came in the rest were snowy. The 2nd room did have more channels and 1 HBO channel. Normally one doesn't care about TV when on a beach vacation and all of the other things I mentioned probably wouldn't have bothered us either if we could have actually used the beach. But when your stuck in your room to escape rotting seaweed stench it would be nice to have some comforts to at least make up for it. With all that being said If/when the seaweed problem goes away I would stay there again just for the location.

The Buena Vida restaurant has good drinks but the food is bland and not worth the money. Head down the road to Turtle Bay or Queva De Pescador both had excellent food and drinks. Also the Que Onda near Yal ku lagoon was good as well.
