smaller car than expected, use AAA instead if you
Cons: "standard" car was a buick verano which is much smaller than the toyota camry that was standard on oahu.
we locked our keys in the car and called budget customer service and asked for help but they didn't send any info for over an hour, so we called and cancelled and called AAA instead. today over a month later i got a notification that they charged me $55 for the roadside service that I NEVER USED. I will be calling to complain and get my money back. it's ridiculous that they don't keep good enough records to show that i didn't use the service and nobody ever actually showed up. AAA charged me nothing (I already had a membership which costs $49 a YEAR) and was much more responsive than Budget.

It was OK but not better than other companies
Pros: It was an OK experience. Car was not new, but not old either.
Cons: (1) The lady told me they don't accept AAA. (2) Car needed alignment work. It started shaking when running over 60 mph.

Car was not ready
Pros: The car was clean.
Cons: The car was not ready for many hours after I specified the pick up time. The company pressures customers to buy their insurance which was almost half the cost.

Pickup Process could be seriously improved
Pros: Car was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Just need to improve pickup processes.
Cons: Pickup process everyone was in the same line. No chance to expedite the process before hand online. Had to wait 45 minutes behind tourists who didn't know what they wanted. Ended up being late for appointment. Would have taken any car.

Cons: Terrible check in service, three agents behind desk all talking with each other - waited 10 minutes for service, only person in line. Car was very dirty.
Pros: The Alamo service was great. They were fast, pleasant, and easy to work with.
Cons: The car was HORRIBLE. I choose a Hyundai Volester - and it was TERRIBLE worst car I've ever driven. Looks like economy only has terrible p.o.s. cars :(

Pros: First off, I was greeted with a warm smile and welcome after getting off plane by Talalelei Uli. In a world where customer service is met with complacent, non trusting and non enthused employees, Tala was very warming to myself and my pregnant wife. He was wonderful in helping us and did his best to find a great deal on an upgrade. I sincerely give my upmost praise for Tala and the whole group at Alamo Honolulu. Thank you
Cons: Were out of convertibles but otherwise the experience was great. Ended up with a wrangler 4 door.

Pros: Dropping off was easy. Car was clean.
Cons: I went there initially without a reservation through kayak and they told me they only had minivans and h2's for 59-69 and I asked about all those compact cars and midsized cars they had in the lot. Lady said they didn't have any. I get out of line and go on kayak.com and go back up there to another lady showing the Listings of all the compact and midsize cars and she said she never heard of the site and they don't have any of those cars. She also told me that's all they have and if I reserve through kayak she's not making any promises I'll get it. I get out of line, reserve it and walk back up to the original lady and the whole time she tried to upsell me to the h2. I said no and I want a midsized car. I go to to the lot and see about 14 midsize cars I got to choose from.
I didn't like the fact that 2 different ladies lied to my face saying they didn't have any of the cars I was looking for. I just had to call them on their bs which I shouldn't have to.

Car rentals are the downside to travel
Pros: Shuttle person prompt and helped with baggage
Cons: Clerks are not friendly, however, I think if you clearly spelled out ALL rules & guidelines on your confirmation email, it would help eliminate the irritation at checkout. Things like its extra for spouses to both drive, the spouse that's driving must pay with their own credit card (we don't like to bring all of our credit cards for safety reasons), etc. expectations. You also should not let 3rd parties book, if you don't like it when they do. It seems we encounter unfriendliness due to booking through kayak.

Minivan in Paradise
Pros: The ease of the check-in/ check-out process and the value of the rental. The shuttle drivers were polite.
Cons: The shuttles were full and we had to wait both times for a second one to arrive. The outside of the van was clean. The inside was vacuumed but had not been wiped down or QC'd.There was sticky stuff finger painted on the side window and something spilled on the side of the door and seat. The front window was covered in a layer of dust that made it difficult to see clearly.

Pros: awesome staff, very friendly, got us in and out very quick, so much appreciated
Cons: The car was very beat up, dings and scratches everywhere, and it drove poor like it needed power steering fluid. The wheel also made a lot of noise and brakes squealed.

mini vans are TOO expensive
Pros: I love the space of a mini van for my family
Cons: The fact that rental companies GOUGE people who need this for their families is criminal. Why can one rent TWO $20K cars for HALF the price of ONE $30K mini van? This truly represents the dark side of capitalism, and families are the ones that have to pay - sad.

Pros: The customer service was exceptional...so friendly and helpful! Our friends, who had rented from Dollar, drove us to the airport and we were with them when they dropped their rental off. The customer service rep at Dollar was unkind and uninterested in their rental experience, which was the total opposite of our experience with Enterprise staff.
We'll definitely use you all when you're back in town next year.

Price Higher Than Kayak Agreement
Pros: Airport pickup.
Cons: The cost of the rental was higher than what was quotedon my Kayak agreement.
They said it was higher because tax was added???
Kayak had already added taxes ?
If you do not have a receipt for a gas purchase they will "fine" you when you turn the car in (although tank is full)

Not bad if you dont mind roaches...
Pros: It did the job, had pretty awesome gas mileage, and allowed us to go all over the island to see what we wanted to see.
Cons: Pretty quickly after picking it up we started seeing bugs, and only saw more and more as we went along. They looked like baby roaches, which was completely disgusting. We didn't have food in the car or anything and still we were seeing them crawling all over! We called Payless and they gave us a new car without issue, which I appreciated, though it sucked having to drive all the way back to the kona airport, which was nowhere near where we stayed. Unfortunately, the first thing we saw when we opened the door to the replacement vehicle, was another roach. We decided to just suck it up and take the car, as we had already wasted a lot of our day driving up there, and honestly, sometimes in Hawaii there is just no avoiding the roaches, but it was very disgusting and I really think Payless should take measures to avoid this in the future. As for me, I won't be using Payless again.

Great price on upgrade
Pros: Upgraded to new Mustang GT convertable for +$20 a day. Car was new and clean. Slight problem with getting the upgrade in the "system" but turned out fine
Pros: Rented a Camaro convertible. Good thing it was a convertible because our luggage wouldn't fit in the trunk. We had to put it in the back seat (after putting the top down). Otherwise, a pretty fun car... A bit on the old side (30,000+ miles). Would definitely consider Avis again.

Pros: Not much.
Cons: Car was dirty, had 40K+ miles and some of the electronics would only work sporadically. Also it took 30 minutes to get the car with only four other customers at the desk at that time. They were three people behind the counter and it took them that long to get five customers out the door.

Pros: Short line for Avis members.
Cons: No car ready when I arrived.
Car had tape residue marks over all door and trunk seams.
Car was so under-powered, it was scary driving it. There are many steeply graded roads on the Big Island. The car slowed to 20 MPH trying to ascend some of the hills.
Cons: The first car has cockroaches but they changed it.

Not As Expected
Pros: Model was compact but plenty of leg room in front and back seats versus Chevy Sonic which was other choice.
Cons: I thought I was picking it up at airport but apparently not. Had to pay extra to pick up at airport. Didn't turn out to be much of a deal afterall.
