Eventually BYOJet got us through to Virgin who allowed us to buy luggage for $25 per bag. Thank you Virgin for your wonderful assistance 1 1/2 hours before departure. Virgin's standard ticket has 23kg luggage included. What is the problem with a ticket bought online through agents such as BYOJet and Kayak?"

Cons: "The legroom was a problem. Seats are kind of narrow, and then, with the lack of legroom it’s somewhat challenging to shift your legs, especially when the seat in front of you goes back! I felt like the person was almost in my lap. My cup even got crunched. I think my biggest issue, though, lay in how I was treated after paying $127.00 to obtain a day pass for the lounge each way. For my inbound flight my purse was branded with an “economy” class luggage type tag, and I was made to feel as though I was trying to sneak in. I had to show my boarding pass a number of times to employees after asking for the location of the lounge in order to be directed there, and then my credentials were examined as though I was trying to get into Fort Knox. Upon arrival at the desk, I was somewhat tersely informed that I had 6 hours. I went out of my way a bit in order to fly Qatar, which is supposed to be so wonderful, and I was underwhelmed. I’ve had better experiences on Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines."

Pros: "I flew round trip on their flagship Airbus 380 from Toronto to Dubai, about 13-14 hours. Crew was great, plenty of food and drinks, about 3x meals, lost track of how many drink runs, maybe 5x. It was almost too much food & drink! The in-flight entertainment was great, touch screen was fantastic, USB port, even power outlet, on back of seat, plenty of entertainment choices from movies, to video games, to trivia, I even got a kick out of all the camera's mounted on the outside of the plane with all the flight tracking details available on screen, plenty of bathrooms. Its such a big plane it didn't even feel like you are flying. I'm 6'4" so I always choose an aisle seat so i can at least stretch one leg out, the crew was even mindful not to bump my elbow or even my leg when it was extended out into the aisle while i was asleep...which was more than accommodating to something I shouldn't have been doing! Overall Excellent, I wish every airline was like Emirates. They're bringing back the old school service and class airlines used to be like. I know people don't dress up while they air travel anymore, but I'll be dressing up the next time I fly Emirates! ;)"

Cons: "Extremely overweight passenger next to me. It was awful, her body was in contact with me the entire flight. The most uncomfortable, hot, smelly, awkward flight Ive ever experienced. Its time you charge for 2 seats for people that are the size of 2 people. Not fair to other passengers to have to be so inconvenienced and extremely uncomfortable."

The entertainment did not work, which was not anyones fault, but made the flight long and boring..."

Meals were very good for economy. Cabin crew super polite and patient, which I've come to notice as a standard on Cathay. As an example, I have a good intolerance to shrimp/prawn. My outbound flight LAX-HKG, the dinner salad included shrimp. I explained i could not eat the shrimp. The attendant was kind enough to swap it with a leftover vegetarian salad."
Cons: "Trying to setup special meals to avoid food allergies is non-existent. Cathay offers many special meals, excluding food allergies or low-carb. I attempted to call in to Cathay to explain I could not have shrimp/prawn. The rep either did not understand or could not help. I really wished Cathay offered a pre-arrival meal like the other airlines. LAX-HKG and HKG-LAX are 13+ hours. Cathay offers a departure meal and a mid-flight meal. But by arrival time, I was starting to get hungry again. Thank God, I had enough of a layover, even with CBP processing, to grab a quick bite before continuing an additional 6-hours to home with no time to eat."

Cons: "The flight was delayed by over 3 hours and I just missed check in for my connecting flight. I was not allowed to board by British Airways. Unfortunately this was a separate ticket and resulted in me having to purchase a new ticket at a very higher cost. While I accept the delay was beyond Cathay's control I would have make the check in on the connecting flight in time if they had provided assistance in transiting through the airport. Unfortunately no help was provided and after I missed the check in and spoke to the Cathay Pacific representative they only advised me I would have to find another flight."

Cons: "My biggest concern was the staff. I found them to be rude and they didn't try to make my experience better when I complained. The person in front of me kept their seat reclined and it squashed my legs for the majority of the flight making my 12+ hour flight very uncomfortable. I complained early in the flight to the crew, but they brushed me off and told me it was that passengers right to do so. With 5 hours left in the flight, the person sitting beside me complained about the same thing and the crew member apologized and immediately had the person in front of her pull her chair up. The only reason I could think of was that my neighbour complained in mandarin and I only spoke English. Made me feel really aweful. Other things that were out of cathays control included too many screaming babies, and a very rude and inconsiderate couple who sat in front of me."

Pros: "The self check-in service was a breeze if it was open just a day earlier that would have been the best. The in flight comfort and service was as expected and without complaint. Even with a full flight going there was enough space I'm the overheads to store the carry-on which is really nice."

The JETStar staff at the airport was not helpful at all! On the contrary she BLUNTLY told me JETStar is a different company from QANTAS. That's all. At Hobart Airport I was BLUNTLY told again I had to get my luggage at Melbourne Airport and check in again because they didn't have facility to forward the luggage to Qantas. I understand Qantas and JETStar are allied airlines and so they should give the same service as any other allied airlines. I need good explanation about these poor service from JETStar and Qantas. Thank you ."

Pros: "QF 93 Australia to US, was awesome, was allowed spare room, better, more courtious, better fresher food, better service from crew, and more comfortable, the space between the seats was bigger."
Cons: "The return flight QF 94 - the crew were so slow with everything, especially handing out meals. Instead of starting of handing out meals in other section (which was served last for initial meal). So being in the second the last row, I was served meal last both times. Also very slow in taking away empty trays. Had to beg for an aisle seat, which is total BS as it seems women are automatically assigned to middle seats, even though I am taller than most men. I am a Qantas frequent flyer which has stated my preference for an aisle, but only given to me if I ask, and sometimes not even that. Also on this flight, the bathrooms were a mess. Food was not very good. And in terms of boarding we had to wait to a passenger - why can one person hold up an entire flight? Felt that my experience was not worth the exorbitant price. This is not part of Qantas responsibility, as flight came in on time at Tullamarine airport in Melbourne, but it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get out of the airport!!!!"

Pros: "A380 is obviously a wonderful jet to fly; it's very quiet and is usually equipped with state-of-the-art entertainment, so it's great for long haul flights. If you are lucky enough to get a couple of seats free next to you, you can even lie down and sleep."

The food was terrible, the staff gave me a plastic water bottle which I was then to keep and refill at the water station myself (no fresh bottled water), they didn't come to collect rubbish, except after meals, throughout an entire 14 hour flight, and the seat pockets were very small, meaning I ended up with a lot of stuff poking into my knees - not very comfortable."
