In honour of Movember, the worldwide men’s health awareness month, KAYAK.com.au have put together your guide to the hottest ‘stache styles on the planet. From a full-on Chevron to the Fu-Manchu, here are five styles from around the world to give you a bit of ‘moinspiration’.

The Chevron – USA

When moustaches grow up, they want to be Tom Selleck’s. On our radar since the ‘80s Magnum P.I. days, Selleck has the type of full-bodied broom that most men can only dream of. Be sure that the hairs never go too far over your upper lip or past your mouth, because then you might wind up with another USA staple, the unruly cowboy moustache.

Magnum P.I. fans looking to relive memorable moments from the TV show may want to consider an island air tour on board a faithful re-creation of “The Chopper,” departing from Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. After, drop by the Kahala Hotel & Resort, which featured frequently in the series. Oh, and don’t forget your Hawaiian shirt!

The Fu-Manchu – China

The Fu Manchu moustache derives its name from (of course) Fu Manchu, a fictional character by author Sax Rohmer, who is shown wearing this iconic moustache in film adaptations of Rohmer’s stories. We don’t envy the folks who try to grow out the legendary Fu Manchu moustache, but we applaud those willing to put in the time and effort. The main objective here is to grow out the sides of your moustache until they become long enough to flow freely below your chin.

As November marks the start of China’s colder months, should you keep your stache around longer than Movember you’ll stay warm while you’re heading to the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival in January. Now the largest ice and snow festival in the world, there’s so much to do and see, including Yabuli alpine skiing, winter-swimming in the Songhua River, and the ice-lantern exhibition in Zhaolin Garden.

The Dali – Spain

There is really only one man brave enough, or eccentric enough, to make this moustache work. The Dali is inspired by the moustache of legendary Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali, and it is unlike any other mo on this list. The strands of waxed hair must be able to stand upwards on their own, but they can also roam freely from the face when given the opportunity. The Dali isn’t as much a moustache as it is an experience.

If you’re feeling cultural this Movember, the Dali Museum is located in Figueres, in the province of Girona, and is about 143 km from Barcelona. The character persona that Dali created shines through in this museum. From the exterior to the structural design to the pieces he chose to put in it.

The Hungarian – Hungary

Easily the largest moustache on this list, the Hungarian is the Mack Truck of facial hair. The objective here isn’t just to grow a moustache large enough to reach your lower lip; it must also be styled similar to the Handlebar with the volume turned all the way up. This is a hairy statement of pure moustachioed dominance, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The style requires the stamina of one who can quickly grow, and the self-confidence of a Viking to pull off.

One of the most iconic areas for the burliest men in Hungary, is the Budapest thermal baths. At the crowd favourite bath, Szechenyi, men and moustaches of all walks of life come together to relax, play chess and take stock of their travels amongst a stunning piece of Hungary’s history. It’s truly a place where the moustache belongs.

The Sherlock – England

If you are looking to enjoy a refreshing mint julep or play a confusing game of cricket, you need to grow the Sherlock. Tipping the cap to Holmes novelist, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who sported a fine example of this fashionable brush, it requires the wearer to wax the sides of the mo in order to make it pop off the lips. But here you don’t curl the hairs upwards; instead, you style them straight out, creating a vertical line of flat hair under your nose.

Whether you are a die-hard fan of Sherlock Holmes or only started to pay attention when Benedict Cumberbatch or Robert Downey Jr sauntered onto the scene, London itself is a lively homage to Conan Doyles’ detective just waiting to be discovered. We recommend checking out The Sherlock Holmes Pub. Inside fans can see cartoons of the great sleuth; Conan Doyle’s hand written notes and even the head of the Hound of the Baskervilles!
