Reading this at work, wishing you were somewhere else? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. That’s why we’ve just released the first-ever Work From Wherever index, designed to help you choose the best place to work from that isn’t your home or office.

We’ve all become very familiar with WFH (and more recently the idea of hybrid work weeks split between home and office), but it’s the work from wherever phenomenon that is set to sweep the country in 2022, as Aussies rethink their priorities in life and take full advantage of lifting travel restrictions.

New research has shown that flexibility and ‘workations’ are now more preferred by most Aussie workers over traditional perks and policies like extra time off. In light of the ‘Great Resignation’ – Australians have unanimously decided that a change of scenery and the flexibility to work from wherever are must-haves when it comes to maintaining job satisfaction and expanding their life experiences.

Workations (defined as choosing to work from a holiday or away-from-home-destination) are set to boom, with 29% of Aussies planning for one in 2022. And with travel restrictions finally starting to disappear, there’s an increased demand for flexible working policies that can help make these dreams a reality.

Where should I work from?

According to KAYAK research, Queensland is the most desirable work from wherever destination in the country, with coastal destinations including the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Whitsundays the most popular places for employees looking for a change of scenery.

*KAYAK.com.au’s Work From Wherever survey was conducted on 17th March 2022 to 28th March 2022 by a third-party researcher, Pure Profile on behalf of KAYAK, who surveyed 1,000 Australians targeting Australians in jobs where they could work remotely, i.e. office jobs and remote workers, and the general population.
