Taking a lyft to downtown saved me a lot of money vs renting at the airport, but the downtown facility is in an old building. It wasn't as clean (the building... hertz was cleaned and a step up... but getting to it you walk through some ugly)

A clearer and more defined outline of the fees associated with the car rental. There was no attempt to explain or go over the gold rewards membership which could have saved us money as well. Every single person that witnessed coming in for pickup or drop off had some exorbitant amount of money tacked onto a price that was given in the beginning. With all that confusion you would think they would take some time to explain but their response every time, including when we had questions, was "do you want the car or not?" They had no patience and had no remorse and could not explain where all this verbiage was contractually for us to reference anywhere. I will use Turo any chance I can from here on out.

There are not enough words in this space to explain my horrible and beyond frustrating experience renting a car in Cleveland (airport area) through Hertz. The rental process via Kayak was fine. However, if you ever have a problem with a service booked through Kayak, there is no help from Kayak. Period. This will also be the last time I use Kayak due to their lack of customer service. From the Hertz standpoint, I was told three times by the phone rep that I had to pick up my car at the airport location, which was not near where I thought I had to pick it up (downtown). He insisted. So I went to the airport location to get the car only to be told I had to go downtown. I told them the phone rep insisted I come to the airport even though I was willing, and thought I would go to the downtown location. They said they can't rent a car to me unless I paid a nearly $700 additional fee because I had prepaid for my rental. What does that have to do with anything? Then I was told that I couldn't pick up downtown because their office is in fact closed. I asked why Hertz allowed me to book from an office that wouldn't be open the day I needed to get the car, and confirmed to me it would be available. I was told "It happens all the time and we don't know why." A very long, frustrating time later, and after speaking with two local counter reps and two phone reps, I was able to rent the car from the airport location but told I had to return it to the downtown location and not at the airport. When I returned it to the downtown location as instructed, the first thing out of the counter rep's mouth was "why didn't you just return it at the airport, it would be easier, you can do that you know." He did accept the return at his office and was pleasant. The biggest problem I had was at pick up and return with the phone reps, both who did not have very good English and didn't listen to me, or understand me, and were not willing to assist. No one ever answered a local office number. When I asked to speak to a manager on the national customer service line I was told there is no manager on duty because it was a Saturday. Really? Doubtful. Counter reps push the problem to the national call center, and vice versa. There is also a very big difference in how they treat pre-paid clients with on the spot bookings. Anyway, it was a really horrible experience and never again will I rent from Hertz. They don't know their head from their tail, and have no desire to rectify the problem THEY created, not me.

Did not get comparable car.... over priced... despicable customer service... inaccurate hours... primary vs secondary driver not clearly defined for payment options or extra fees. Will never rent from Hurtz again and will discourage others from doing so

My biggest complaint would be the run around I got with the pickup to where I had to go back home and come back cause it wasn’t told to me until I got there that I couldn’t use my debit card and I needed to go thru a credit check before I could rent the vehicle. Good thing it was sorted out with the unfortunate raise in the cost but afterwards everything was fine, even though the time wasted was stressing initially.

Cons:

It was actually a bad experience. I inadvertently selected your downtown location. My intent was to utilize your airport location but your airport representative would not allow me to pick the rental car up from the airport without paying a $133 additional fee even though cars were available. Needless to say, that was extremely unfair and inconvenient. Being a traveler from out of state, I know nothing about downtown Cleveland but was forced to go there. In addition, your rental rates have become extremely too high (overall). Nearly $75.00 for a basic car is unacceptable. I feel cheated. Going forward, Budget will be my last choice.

I had FOUR different cars. Three smelled so bad of cigarettes (and one of weed). The second one they gave me started to shake uncontrollably when I got on the highway. I feel like I was overcharged. Not happy at all.

When I returned the vehicle had I not caught the over charge that the location was charging me over & above the online quote that I would be paying I would have been overcharged!.....Because they made no mention of a vehicle upgrade or anything!!

The premium SUV we ordered 6 weeks earlier was not available. We were given a truck (a Tundra) which we refused due to its size. After quite some time they offered us a Mitsubishi intermediate SUV which was filled with a stinky smoke smell the whole trip. The “need maintenance light” kept coming on every time we started the vehicle and when we left the car rental place, we noticed there was only 1/4 of a tank of gas. We had a person traveling with us that was on oxygen 24/7 and we plugged her oxygen tank into the cigarette lighter to keep it charged for our 8 hour trip. It was after a few hours that we noticed her tank was not recharging. After trying several different ways of plugging her oxygen into the cigarette lighter we realized it was not working. It was a very difficult trip for our friend who had to keep turning her oxygen off to save the charge. The assistant manager did knock off some of the rental charge when we returned it, but we felt we should have been reimbursed 100% of the fee due to the dangerous predicament they put our friend who is dependent on her oxygen due to her COPD.

Pros:

Pick up was awful. The location where we reserved simply didn't have any cars and the employees did not care AT ALL and made NO attempt to rectify the situation. No manager on site nor did the employees even provide me with a customer service phone number.

Cons:

I did call the national number and they told me there was a car available at the airport location. I then requested to be transferred to customer service and they confirmed this, but I had to insist that they reimburse me for an Uber to the airport ($45)--it was not offered to me.

Pros:

The car that I was given was a 2017 Chevy Cruze. The exterior of car was nice and the interior was as well

Cons:

Pick up was so confusing there were no signs to point you in the direction of the building. I requested a pick up time of 12:00pm so I could make it to my destination in a reasonable time frame but I was unable to because when I arrived to Avis there were no cars in the parking lot, I was told to come back in 2 hours because they were waiting on cars to be delivered.
