I had a reservation from February 20 to February 22, 2024 at the Myrtle Beach International Airport (Itinerary # **********3296 Confirmation K7622746054). I arrived at the Thrifty Car Rental Counter around 10:15 AM on Tuesday, February 20th. There were 2 customer service agents behind the counter. One was helping another customer. The other one was on her phone. I stood there waiting for several minutes and finally the one that was on her phone looked up and asked if she could help me. I told her that I had a reservation, gave her my name as well as my driver's license and credit card. She proceeded to place my driver's license into a machine. She tried this several times. She made the comment that it wasn't reading the driver's license. She then went to another machine that was where the other agent was working and tried that a few times. It still would not work. She then went into the back office. I assume she was trying another machine there. Came back out tried the machine at her workstation again. It would not work. She asked me if I had my passport. I told her that I did not routinely carry my passport on domestic flights. She then told me she would not be able to rent me the vehicle that I had reserved. I asked her if there was an alternative plan that she could use in case the machine would not scan my driver's license. She told me there was not. I asked if I could speak to a manager. She told me that I could not. I asked what my alternatives were. She told me I would have to rent a vehicle from another car rental counter. She did tell me that since Thrifty, Hertz, and Dollar are all the same company, I would run into the same problem. As it was clear, she was not going to go out of her way to help me, I proceeded to the Budget/Avis rental car counter. They were able to rent me a vehicle. However, it cost me over three times what I had rented the vehicle for at Thrifty. I find it very difficult to believe that there is not an alternative plan that she could have pursued check my driver's license when the machines don't work. And the fact that I was denied to speak to a manager, further underscores her lack of providing customer service. As a result, I will never rent from Thrifty/Hertz/Dollar. In fact, I had a reservation with Hertz in March at Myrtle Beach International Airport. I cancelled it and rebooked with Budget/Avis. Based on this experience, if Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz were the last rental car company on earth, I would walk.Reviewed 23 Feb 2024

Pros:YesCons:Reserved car got there had to wait over booked had to wait for car then no car gave me a truck no way to get in no running boards. Then my husband 72 who had hips replaced had to get step stool and then no cover on pick up bed for belongings. I told the lady no pickup. Cons:You gave us an F-150. It was the biggest car we’ve ever driven, so it was hard for us to park and maneuver it. We had to be extremely careful so to not ding it as we parked it. It required us to back up and retry everytime we needed to park or make a tight turn.Reviewed 22 Sept 2020

Pros:Car was comfortable. Drop off was easy but we had problems getting the car because our flight was late and they told us that there were no cars available. Eventually they found replacement but we were close to cancelling our reservation.Cons:They should not base car availability on arrival time. Flights are late or rescheduled. Pros:Honestly didnt like anything about our experience from the car to the staff. Overall unprofessional. My spouse and I rented a vehicle in early June to travel from SC to NJ and back. A couple of hours into our trip a huge roach, the kind that fly was crawling on my foot. I freaked out and this could of potentially been dangerous, good thing I wasn't driving. That made us worry about our luggage in the trunk as we didnt want roaches infesting our belongings. On our way up to New Jersey there was no way for us to pay cash for our tolls due to covid and we were forced to go through the EZ Pass. We immediately call Thrifty to notify them and were told we'd have to pay the tolls online for every state we went through a toll. When we tried to pay online through the state,we didnt have an invoice number that was require to pay the toll. That we needed from thrifty. We called thrifty again only to have our account noted. Now several months later we're being charged $90.00 in toll and penalty. When I called again to speak to the Manager Jessica I was given an attitude over the phone and was told that it was my responsibility to pay the tolls despite our multiple attempts to make the payment, which now include a penalty fee. I was also hung up on and when I called back and asked to speak to the Manager Jessica again I was sidelined. I travel to NJ once a month for work, we rent vehicles and fly often.
