As the majority of Dublin’s streets are narrow or cobbled, it’s best to rent a small car that can easily zip around. You should choose a mini or economy car type for the best driving experience, plus it’ll be much easier to park in the limited spaces around the city -- not to mention the fact that smaller cars are much cheaper to run.
Within the city center of Dublin, the default speed limit for roads is 31 mph. This limit remains the same for many of the roads within the city boundary. Be aware of speed cameras at either end of Dublin's Port Tunnel. If you’re traveling outside of the city on National Routes, the limit is 62 mph and on highways the speed limit increases to 75 mph. You will always be notified by sign posts where there is a change of speed limit.
Due to the lack of free parking in Dublin, you will have to rely a parking space in one of the many signposted, multi-story parking ramps in the city. However, if you’re visiting on St Patrick’s day (March 17th), parking on the street is free of charge! Most parking lots have a competitive daily rate which depends on which zone you’re in. Hourly rates are between $1.00 and $3.00. However, be careful not to park in forbidden areas because you will be clamped, or even towed away.

Pros:
the second car was very good. they helped us at the airport which was a better location. However, the agent that helped us was less than helpful. it needed to be clearer that if you didn't take their insurance they were going to put 7500 euros on your credit card. he was unwilling to provide options. In comparison we dealt with another company in glascow and they provided good alternatives with reasonable costs. A much better experience.Cons:
The first car they gave us was old and not in good working order. we returned it and got a much better, newer car that worked well.9.2 Wonderful

Pros:
Mark was the BEST!! We were sold an insurance policy from a 3rd party that ended up being invalid in Ireland...we never would have known without Mark! He brought it to our attention, helped us confirm this fact with the 3rd party, and helped facilitate our refund with them. He then helped us get a a valid policy, and even upgraded our car to help ease our pain of the day ;) Would recommend!Cons:

Sept 2018
Cons:
My credit card covered rental insurance fully and Europcar asked for an email from my bank/credit card company before giving me the car. I had to call my credit card provider and have them send an email to Europcar. Pretty damn ridiculous. All told, I wasted three hours getting all this sorted, and even after I finally got them what they needed, they put a EURO 5,000 authorization charge on my account, an obscene amount for a one-week rental. Also: There's a 25 EURO airport surcharge that I was never made aware of, and a 35 EURO charge to travel into Northern Ireland, which I also wasn't made aware of until the time of payment. I recommend you book elsewhere, because a Google search tells me that not all car rental companies charge for traveling into Northern Ireland.4.4 Mediocre

Pros:
The car was grey.Cons:
Upon arrival in Dublin we were shuttled to an outside airport location. The quoted vehicle was not available, altho we had reserved it several months ahead. In fact they said Dublin NEVER carries that model (a 9 passenger van). So we were given a smaller (7 pax) vehicle which was way too small for our 6 adults to enjoy for a week. The quoted price was 1/4 of what they ended up charging. We had insurance but they would not accept it and required we pay the Europcar offered policy. We have rented in many other countries without all the insurance demands. We would never have booked with them if the initial quote had been correct as other vendors had just what we wanted. Europcar is a real RIPOFF.3 locations in Dublin

I used my credit card’s insurance guarantee, but nowhere in the reservation did it say that to do do ALSO required a letter from my credit card company stating (1) that they cover the Republic of Ireland, (2) they will cover the lace loss if totaled, and (3) the last 4 numbers of my cc account. So at the Europcar desk I had to make that phone call, wade through a few phone trees, then talk to a couple of humans. I did get the letter (great service by my cc bank!) but I was lucky - that approval process may take up to 24 hours. The Europcar desk agent said this happens “quite a bit” with the brokers because you don’t provide the information about what each rental car company requires to use the cc insurance waiver benefits. I suggest adding a link to your process that will take your to the specific rental car company page for their CDW. I did use the link provided for my rental but it did not say I would have to get the letter etc.7.6 Good

Pros:
The lines were really long with people complaining and not moving. The Payless personnel were in the same space as Budget and Avis and it was hard to tell the difference in who was working what. Eventually all personnel worked on the same long Payless line. Then the price of our car quadrupled.2.0 Poor

Pros:
The car we eventually got kept working and did not break down - that is the only nice thing I can say.Cons:
The fact we were left standing outside at night for over and hour waiting on the shuttle service, that we were given a smaller car than that booked, that there were loads of extra charges we could do nothing about was appalling! No sprinkler in the car so could not wash windows! Problems dropping off car - no one at the return location. Lost so much time was late for my flight.
