The pickup was an absolute nightmare at dc location. Not enough people working, huge lines, line waits, they didn’t have enough cars. They also marked my tank as being full when it was not. I was also charged an additional $20 for some unexplainable reason that I have to now spend time looking into. Never again.10.0 Wonderful

Pros:
I had to wait an hour outside after arriving on time for my pickup. Once I was inside the agent was awful: rude, unaccommodating, eager to stick me with a pickup truck. What is the point of reserving a particular kind of car if I'm just given what's available after the small car I needed and requested is nowhere to be found, nor, as I was told, is a particular kind of car even guaranteed? I drove the SUV I was given as little as possible while I had it because it was nearly impossible to park it in the city.Cons:

We were called a week in advance that our pick up location inDC would be closed that we needed to go to union station to pick up rental. However, after getting an Uber to union station, that office was closed too. Then we had to get another Uber to the Ronald Reagan airport. So more Uber drives. 6 hours before the pick up time, I received a call telling me that the car likely would not be available. We had reserved a mini van so we could drive our son from D.C. to college in Chicago. I expressed extreme concern because it was now too late to change our plans and rent from another company. The agent indicated that he would call back shortly with an update, while he tried to locate a minivan. He did not call back. We contacted him 6 hours later and he had not even tried to locate a minivan. He then agreed (again) to look for a minivan. He called back 2 hours later and indicated that he thought it was likely he could secure a large SUV, but that instead of it being available that evening as we had reserved and requested, it would be available in the morning. Then, when we showed up at the pick up spot the next morning (Key Bridge Marriott), the agent was not there. We called his number, only to find out that the agent and the SUV were at the Crystal City Marriott. We were already delayed overnight in leaving on our trip, but we then had to drive to Crystal City to pick up the SUV. While the SUV was excellent, the experience was horrible. I have rented from Hertz for 30 years, and this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had.2.8 Poor

The employee at the pickup location literally told me on the phone that I should have called ahead to make sure he had a car. He said he didnt have any cars and couldnt do anything. I told him this was unacceptable and was pointed to a helpline, who just left me stranded in DC waiting on a call.2.0 Poor

Nothing, everything was terrible, they did not have my mini van. It was the worst experience I've ever had renting a vehicle as I was depending on the minivan to move, I had the loading dock at my apt. scheduled and no vehicle. Hertz never notified me that my vehicle was not there.Cons:

I did not receive the minivan that I reserved through KAYAK's website, nor did I receive ANY minivan from Hertz. I sent an email to KAYAK and heard back from "Shannon" from customer service, saying that any and all mistakes were made by HERTZ. My message was, in part, the following: "I rented a minivan from Hertz (Confirmation # G8204778611) yesterday (Tuesday, January 19th) for pick-up at a Hertz location in Arlington, Virginia (1401 Lee Highway, Arlington VA) on Thursday (Jan. 21st at 10am). I was to drop off that minivan on Saturday (Jan. 23, 2016 at 9am) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The rental cost was $382.67. I also purchased rental insurance, amounting to another $27.00. This afternoon (approximately 4pm, Wednesday January 20th), the 1401 Lee Highway Hertz location called, telling me that they DO NOT HAVE a minivan for me. I have been transferred from office to office, and no one can help. I need a minivan tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am, otherwise I will be stuck in DC for at least three additional days as a major snowstorm approaches. So, why would KAYAK.COM advertise a minivan rental from a Hertz location which did not have a single minivan on hand? Hertz (both that local business, as well as the Customer Service center) cannot help me with a thing...." If I cannot rely upon listings on Kayak.com, then I will need to re-direct my personal business to a responsible booking website, as well as inform my employer, my clients, my family, my friends, my fellow professional colleagues, professional affiliations, and any other person/institution in which I am affiliated, etc., that Kayak should be avoided. I expect more than just an email from a customer service representative, trying to pass the buck off to Hertz and not even providing me with a phone number to speak to someone at Kayak about my situation. I was almost stranded in Washington, DC, without a place to sleep and without any means to leave prior to the snowstorm.
