Other than the rental price gouging during the holiday week, my experience with Hertz was great. The check-in process was pretty fast and my car was waiting outside the office. I chose the Manager's Choice option and was given a full-size sedan which drove great.

it is impossible to deal with the car rental companies in Manhattan, but Hertz on 76th st is the worst of the worst. terrible employees. lack of information. call the number on line and you get a person in the Philippines or Honduras. a totally negative experience. my second time in a year. but never again.

When we came to pickup, there were no cars available, even though we had made a reservation. The crew found this perfectly normal and said we had to wait an hour. After an hour we got a great car that was more luxurious than we picked, for the same price.

NYC staff was great. There was no staff at Atlantic City.

Cons:

Call center was very hard to hear (very poor audio connection). I had to extend the rental by 2 hours and the cost was double the original cost.

Was able to pick up right in Manhattan. Upgraded to a 4 wheel drive when say conditions were bad. Was able to do a one way trip as needed all the way to Memphis. Other rental companies would not allow this. Good price and very friendly service.

1 person working alone both for pickup and drop off. > 30 minute delay for pick up.

Cons:

Car was not well cleaned and when shown to staff I was told that we are busy!!!!!!!!

Friendly attendant in NYC. Car had relatively low miles.

Cons:

Forgot transponder (which I prepaid for) making tollgates a challenge. Car quality (Ford ESport) was small and less than expected for “mid-size SUV.” Car shocks were poor, but got us to Chicago without other technical issues.

I received a damage report for damage that I was not responsible for. The customer service rep rushed off the phone and transferred me after I asked her not to. Horrendous experience and I won't be using Avis again.

I prepaid for gas expecting to be credited for the fuel I didn’t use. At pick up the staff asked me so many questions about extras I felt obligated to buy the gas.

Faster transactions. I mean it’s 2019. Scan in licence and credit card data for Pete sake. Instead of manually doing it. And dot matrix prints. Just too funny.

First Avis location closes at 5pm on a weekday making it impossible to pickup a car if you have a fulltime job. Second Avis location was much better with friendly assistance. Definitely on brand that has two very different views on how to run a company
