Try Kobe Beef in Japan
Rumours that the cows are pampered with daily massages, soothed to sleep with Mozart sonatas and fed a steady diet of beer, have elevated Kobe beef to almost mythical status. For meat lovers, it is considered the epitome of fine dining. Kobe beef comes from the Tajima-gyu breed of cattle found in Japan’s Hyōgo Prefecture, of which Kobe is the capital and the meat’s namesake.
Where to get it: For many people, the name Kobe is inextricably linked to its world-famous beef, but also Wakkoqu, one of the best places in the city to try it. There are several set menus featuring various cuts of beef, which is then cooked directly in front of dinners on large iron griddles. Our tip is to go at lunch time as you won’t pay full price.
Hungry in Hungary for Beef Goulash
Goulash is the national dish of Hungary. Even if the name of this dish does not sound fancy, this is worth a try. Fierce in colour, the soup consists of cuts of beef, potato, stock, and paprika, a hearty soup that shouldn’t be missed. It’s hard to find a restaurant that doesn’t serve it, from the humblest café to the grandest establishments.
Where to get it: Enjoy an authentic goulash with homemade noodles in the atmospheric garden of Var: a Speiz, one of Budapest’s most charming traditional restaurants. Awarded with the “Bib Gourmand” qualification by Michelin Guide, the kitchen serves up generous portions infused with flavours from the countryside.
A Slice of Heaven: The Infamous Quiche Lorraine, France
The quiche Lorraine recipe yields a rich egg pie and hails from the mountainous region of Lorraine in northern France. Sufficient for a filling meal in itself, quiche Lorraine has been adapted over the years from a humble custard and bacon pie to the substantial cheese, bacon, and egg creation that it is known for today.
Where to get it: Angelina in Paris is famous for their hot chocolate, but it’s the Quiche Lorraine that will steal your heart. It’s got the shortest pastry and creamiest egg filling which is speckled with bacon and baked just enough to give it a golden, glossy top. Definitely a must if you visit Paris.
All Day, Every Day, Fish Tacos, Mexico
A trip to Mexico will easily confirm what everyone already knows; one can live on tacos alone. And the great thing about tacos is that they can be eaten just about any time of day, even in between meals. With Mexico’s two long coastlines along the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Pacific Ocean providing killer seafood, who can go past fish tacos!
Where to get it: Los de Pescado has become a popular choice for locals and tourists alike thanks to its cheap prices and delicious shrimp or fish tacos. With locations all over Cancun, including one in the Hotel Zone across the street from the InterContinental Presidente hotel, it is one not to be missed. Have an ice cold beer with your lunch or dinner and do not miss the spicy white mayonnaise-based dressing.

The Reuben Sandwich; a deli standard stuffed with corned beef brisket, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing. Everyone can agree that it’s one of the most delicious things ever to get squished between two slices of bread.
Where to get it: You won’t find a more traditional deli for a Reuben than New York City’s oldest, Katz’s Delicatessen, a redbrick institution in the hip Lower East Side. It’s the pastrami Reuben sandwich that keeps patrons coming back for more so it’s our top pick from the menu.
