Southern Rockhole, NT
Nestled in the heart of the Katherine Region lies the secluded and picturesque waterfall and waterhole, Southern Rockhole. The waterhole is three-and-a-half hour’s drive from Darwin and a one-hour bush walk, so make sure to pack your hiking shoes.
You’ll be amazed by the beauty of the landscape on the walk and when you arrive, you’ll be taken aback by the stunning turquoise water amongst the sandstone rock formations.
The remoteness of this gorgeous waterfall means you will most likely have the place to yourself, so bring along some snacks and have a picnic as you enjoy swimming in your own quiet sanctuary.
Millaa Millaa Falls, QLD

For those after the perfect Instagram shot, try replicating the famous Herbal Essence 90s advert and strike a pose surrounded by lush rainforest and tropical palms at the Millaa Millaa falls.
The falls are easily accessible, making it a popular tourist attraction throughout the year. But for those after some peace and quiet, head to the falls early in the day to ensure you get that perfect hair flip selfie without the crowds.
If you don’t mind the crowds, head to the falls late in the afternoon for a chance to spot the Ulysses Butterfly and the platypus.

Mitchell Falls, WA
For those adventure-seeking explorers, the Mitchell Falls are an idyllic spot. This breathtaking and unique waterfall is an hour’s walk from the nearest parking, with plenty of sightseeing along the way. Make sure to stop at the Little Mertens Falls on the way, where you’ll find a stunning 10m waterfall cascade into a large waterhole.
Once you arrive at the main attraction, you’ll find a series of multi-tiered waterfalls, producing layers of freshwater pools which cascade down. The stunning background of the red rock amongst the flow of the falls is a site you won’t forget.
Crystal Shower Falls, NSW
Located a short drive from Coffs Harbour, Crystal Shower Falls are located in the lush rainforest of Dorrigo National Park. The flowing waterfall is located on the rocky trail, so you can walk directly behind it and watch the water cascade down the rainforest towers.
The walk to the falls is surprisingly quick. Along the way, you’ll be regaled by the sounds of rainforest birds and fruit doves. To view the falls from above, head to the suspension bridge to take in the impressive bird’s eye view.
Wattamolla Falls, NSW

Found in the Royal National Park, the Wattamolla Falls are a great spot to head to if you have a group of indecisive mates – there’s plenty to do with a waterfall, bushwalk and beach all within reach. Even better, it’s only an hour’s drive from Sydney.
Walk to the top to of the falls for great views of the lagoon and wider ocean or bring a board and head out for a paddle yourself.
Once you’ve cooled off and worked up an appetite, bring some food and make use of the free BBQs in the picnic area.
