I asked hostess what the deal was (because their food service is usually great) and she explained that in this new plane (Boeing 787) they removed a lot of the working areas for the crew. They have less space to work in order to be able to prepare food and drinks compared to Qantas's other planes (Airbus A380). This is also a brand new plane for this crew (literally the first flight for some for some of them), and they didn't know where some of the things on the plane were. I imagine after they've used the plane for a while and learn where everything is, they'll get better. I'll find out on the return flight back to Melbourne."

Yet the ticket counter lady made me pay an additional fee and all together I ended paying more for extra bags fee than the ticket itself! both Virgin and JetStar are VERY stingy on extra luggage fees. I came from the US to Australia and traveled domestically while there with all the luggage that I brought from the US. So I had to pay so much in fees when my trip was already so expensive! It makes me reconsider wanting to travel again anywhere anytime soon, so discouraging! Also they make me take stuff out of my big suitcase and transfer to my carry on, in front of everyone at the ticket counter I had to open my suitcase and transfer some stuff so the weight is under a certain weight. Despite being reluctant to commit to any changes in the (uncomfortably cold) cabin temperature, one of the crew did respond to my inquiry by returning to say they had adjusted the temp upward to 24C, which in my mind earns them an A for Effort. What I had of the food was acceptable, but nothing to write home about. The touch screens seemed to work much more effectively than in the past, so those may have been upgraded. The crew I dealt with were generally very pleasant and responsive. The restrooms had sufficient toilet paper (never a guarantee), and as a stroke of luck, there was virtually no turbulence, that always makes things nicer."
Cons: "I was right by the gate before the flight but never heard any announcement calling out rows, the economy passengers just started herding themselves (as always) and eventually got in line/on the plane in what seemed to be a haphazard fashion. Like so many times before, the air conditioning was set too cold (they said it was set to 22C as if this is normal - that might be an average setting of comfort for a grown male wearing a full suit and walking around in an office setting, but not for a plane half full of females who aren't able to move around and get their blood circulating). The music and movie selections seemed to have changed over the years. I have pleasant memories of Virgin Australia offering virtually anything your heart could desire at the touch of a button, but this time around I couldn't find any artists that I recognized let alone liked, and the movie selection seemed much thinner. Licensing issues perhaps? For me this was actually disappointing."

Cons: "The rear of the plane was filled with screaming babies, loud uncontrolled children kicking the seats in front of them (mine). Equally loud mothers baby-talked continuously to their offending offspring with no effect. Cabin staff made no attempt to control the noise levels. I recognize some of these small children could have been suffering ear pain from the cabin pressure changes but trained cabin staff could have offered remedies for this. It does not explain the continuous screaming at cruising altitude. I recognize that JETSTAR is an intentionally cheap and nasty airline. I reluctantly took this flight because there was no quality service (like QANTAS) at the time I required. I accept the lack of amenities offered by REAL airlines like complimentary food, drink, entertainment and healthy legroom are the cost of cheap travel but I would have happily paid a higher price for QANTAS had there been a flight. I will not fly JETSTAR again and if no alternative exists with QANTAS, I will choose another airline in spite of my long allegiance to QANTAS CC: QANTAS"

Flight cancelled by carrier no viable options offered by phone representative held on the telephone for over an hour whilst travelling to airport in an attempt to get a flight home. Holiday cut short, had to return rental car 1/2 day earlier than what had been paid for, lunch reservations had to be cancelled and no responsibility accepted by Jetstar representative. Well they have definitely lost me as a customer, none of the companies I own would treat a customer in such a manner we believe that we NEED customers to stay in business. The chat was clunky and not compatable with mobile phone. Then they couldn't refund the extra fees I had paid for assigned seats - that is a "different chat site" though I was reassigned a Quantas ticket and given tickets that had us split up on that flight. They couldn't give me a booking number or anything like that for the Quantas flight either. I will just save the hassle and fly with Quantas next time. Unimpressed with JetStar and their customer service was terrible. Still out the refund money and frankly it is worth it not to have to deal with them again."

Make sure you know what is and what is not included with your ticket, especially if you use a third party to purchase your tickets. PS - All drinks (including coffee, tea, soda, etc.)are extra. Frankly, I'm surprised they don't charge for using the toilet in flight"

At airport I was charged $682 for luggage cause " I didn't say I was flying with luggage "supposedly opting out of the $ 35.00 fee for luggage. Only other option was to re-book for next day loosing out of bookings in Cairns which was not an option. Many other passengers on our flight faced same predatory practices by Jetstar. I arrived at Darwin airport at 7:05pm--very inconvenient as I was being picked up at 6:45am for a 3-day trip to Kakadu. Besides flight time changes, expect to pay extra for everything on board and be sure to prepay luggage costs. Cramped seating on a very full plane."
