Pros:

Staff was friendly. Pick up location was convenient. Car was ready and clean and easy to drive.

Cons:

At pick-up we were charged an extra 69 euro fees on top of the $72 in fees already paid. Adding up to about $150 to the base car rental fee for a 4 day rental. (Base rate was $120. We actually paid closer to $300 total) The break down apparently was a 40 euro fee to drop off at a different location. Plus some 21% tax that added up to 29 euro. The other $72 was a $18 “taxes and fees” per day. I found it to be deceptive pricing on Hertz’s part.

Pick up in Granada was great!! Drop off in Valencia was a total nightmare!! Although I filled the car before leaving the Highway, the two people who were at the counter said my gas tank was short a couple of gallons. They insisted I go and fill it up instead of charging me for 2 gallons of gas. Having to leave the office /garage in a city I didn’t know caused me to get lost. When I found a gas station, it cost only 6 euros to fill the tank. I would have gladly paid twice that much to not have the aggravation of being sent away and getting lost. I’m a senior citizen and this was very difficult and upsetting.

Directions for the drop off location at the Madrid airport were unavailable when we needed them. We tried both Google maps and Waze to get to "Hertz Madrid Airport" and a multitude of other variations of Hertz car return, airport, etc. and they all took us to closed roads that were for airport employees only. Providing a specific drop off address and/or step by step directions to get to the drop off location would have been helpful since the online maps don't work.

Alamo had no cars available when we arrived, forcing us to switch to Avis. We were not even informed of this prior to arriving at the rental office. Pathetic!
