Mom Darwin

Melaleuca on Mitchell Backpacker Accommodation, or Mom Darwin, is a great place for travellers who are conscious of their budget, as there are a number of options to choose from depending on whether you are happy to share a room or would rather have the privacy of your own. If you don’t want to share a dorm-style room, why not book a twin or queen room ensuite, where you’ll have the luxury of having your own space and a private bathroom? The 22 sqm rooms are good value, and given that you have your own shower and bathroom, they are a good option at this hostel.

While the reception of the Mom Darwin hostel is open 24/7 to welcome guests who arrive off very early or late flights, the regular check-in and check-out times are 14:00 and 10:00 respectively. It is possible to arrange for an early check-in time, but you will need to alert the reception of the hostel as to what time you intend to arrive. Late check-outs are also possible based on availability, and these may incur an excess charge depending on the circumstances.

While there is no shuttle bus available, the hostel is only about a 20min drive away from the Darwin International Airport (DRW). There are a number of taxi companies that are in the rank opposite the terminal building, and you can flag one down upon arrival and go straight to your accommodation. There are also some shuttle bus companies that operate out of the airport, stopping at the accommodation located in the CBD. The Darwin CBD shuttle bus can be booked by email prior to your arrival – be sure to check that they stop at your required spot or at least nearby.

The hostel accepts payment by credit or debit cards, such as Mastercard, UnionPay and Visa. You’ll be required to show your photo identification and a valid credit card when you check in at reception, as the property may be required to take a security deposit from you; this will be returned to your card after you leave.

The Mom Darwin hostel offers a number of opportunities for guests to meet each other and spend some time together. There is a rooftop pool and bar where there is evening entertainment as well as a sun terrace and table tennis facilities. In addition to the events held, like movie nights, you can also book through the hostel to go on a tour of some of the sights of Darwin, including a day tour to Litchfield National Park with its waterfalls and swimming holes, or to Kakadu National Park to see rock art and some natural wildlife.
