Its location and cleanliness
The place feels like it has a grand heritage. Le Labo toiletries are a nice touch. The rooms are massive.
Unfortunately the traditional style extends to all of the facilities. My room appeared to have no soundproofing (not helpful when you have trains rolling through all hours of the night, and part of the reason I’m writing this at 5am). The lights in the room are not centrally controlled. The elevators smell musty. Almost everything is an additional charge (you don’t even get a complimentary bottle of water). When I booked online I requested information on the airport shuttle and didn’t hear from the property. For $400 CA a night, this place didn’t feel like it gives particularly good value for money.
The lobby restaurant. The convenience to the shopping district. Starbucks in the hotel
The rooms were horrendous. We stayed in a pet room . The whole room smelled of urine. The beds were super small. The heat was cranked all the time. Not to my Fairmont expectations.
Big room with a great view of the Calgary tower. The bed was huge and comfy. The bathroom was small compared to the room but was no bother. We were left a little treat of chocolate strawberries and a card for our honeymoon which was a thoughtful touch. The pool was clean and very luxurious. We were the only ones using it when we went which was a bonus. Fairmont lived up to expectations and we would definitely return. Thanks Fairmont
No safe in the room
Good location. Classic Fairmont experience... I have always liked the Palliser and Fairmont hotels. Still a great hotel!
We had a small dog with us. While I understand that pets can be challenging for any hotel, it was one of the few hotels that did not allow the dog in the common area by reception, so it can difficult if you want to enjoy a drink or snack and are unable to leave the dog in the room. I not asking for access to the restaurant, but an area where you can still get service while you have a dog, like other hotels, would have been nice. Within reason of course...
