The Pavilions at Mona

Mona Pavilions offer outstanding accommodation for art lovers who are in Tasmania to visit MONA, the remarkable Museum of Old and New Art. Located on a private peninsula on the River Derwent, you can take the dedicated ferry from the Brooke Street Pier in Hobart or get there by bus or car. Boasting panoramic river views, each stunning pavilion is decorated with artwork or video art from the MONA collection and has an individual wine cellar. Each of the eight luxury pavilions is named after an influential Australian architect or artist, including Sidney Nolan, Walter Burley Griffin, Brett Whiteley and Arthur Boyd. Several pavilions have been designed by renowned architecture firm Fender Katsalidis.

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, celebrating a special occasion with a group of friends or want to take the kids to experience art, Mona Pavilions offers ultra-contemporary accommodation in a peaceful setting within the MONA property. All pavilions feature a state-of-the-art kitchen, bathrooms with under-floor heating, granite spa bath and laundry facilities. Couples can book the one-bedroom Esmond, Robin, Sidney or Arthur pavilions, which feature a separate living area, riverfront terrace, fluffy robes and cable television. The Brett, Charles and Walter pavilions have two bedrooms, while the spectacular two-bedroom Roy offers superior accommodation over three levels.

After spending the day discovering art at MONA, retreat to your luxury pavilion with calming views of the River Derwent. Each pavilion is different, encompassing glass and steel cubes combined with Australian timbers or cantilevering over the river. Rooms are furnished with king-size beds and luxurious 400 thread-count cotton sheets, bespoke Australian-made furnishings and original artworks. Guests enjoy access to the heated infinity lap pool, sauna and gymnasium, and you will also find a micro-brewery and a winery on the MONA property.

Guests staying at Mona Pavilions enjoy a full a la carte breakfast served in The Source Restaurant every morning. Located in the Ether Building, at the top of MONA, The Source offers sweeping riverfront views with a focus on local, seasonal produce. Boasting an award-winning wine list, impeccable service and living tables covered in moss and herbs, the restaurant is also generally open for lunch from 12:00 to 16:00. Meals at the Faro Bar and Restaurant are a provocative and playful experience, or guests can enjoy flame-grilled burgers and vegetables on the Mona lawn at Dubsy’s. You can also prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen in each pavilion.

While you’re staying at Mona Pavilions, you can sample local wines, craft beer and experimental cocktails at the onsite bars at MONA. During the week, usually from 12:00 to 17:00, book a cellar door wine tasting at the onsite Moorilla Winery or sample artisanal beers from the Moo Brew micro-brewery. The Morilla Wine Bar has indoor and outdoor seating, with an extensive wine list, grazing plates to share and house-made pastries. Located inside MONA, on Level 3, Void Bar serves light bites, coffee and cocktails and is open from Friday to Monday until late.
