Payless was probably fine. The main problem was they didn’t have a car at all! They also told me they don’t do same day rentals but kayak booked it and aiding had a car. Also there was no one to contact at kayak to tell them this or cancel my reservation. Obviously I didn’t or won’t pay for it.
Nobody was at the desk, I had to go to another company to find out they had no vehicle for me. Waste of time, I went all the way out to the airport and had nothing to show for it.
I was disappointed in almost every respect. a) signage in the car-rental line at IND showed "Avis/Budget" but nothing for Payless, so I walked to the counter. I was (rudely) told "I don't care what the sign says; go get in the line." b) 35 minutes later it's my turn and I explain I've rented an electric car and need to drive 100 miles roundtrip. I don't think I'll be able to charge it. What happens? The answer, best as I could figure it out, was "$70 fee". c) That seemed crazy on a $55 rental, so I asked for a gasoline car instead. After 20 minutes and an upcharge I was sent outside to stall H8 to get my car. It was a windy, cold, wet afternoon and stall H8 was empty. It stayed that way for 20 more minutes! -- So, rude staff; an upcharge; and more than an hour from arriving in the rental hall until being able to drive away. Lousy! I noticed that the Hertz counter had no wait line, and smiling staff. Note to self: next time, spend the money and go with Hertz!!
Absolutely awful. I pre-paid for this car rental and when I arrived to the Payless counter, I was told that no cars were available! Calling Payless customer service was useless. They said that the best they could do is to process a refund... how was that going to help? I was stuck at Indianapolis Airport with no means of getting to my final destination. I will never rent with Payless again.
I was not able to pick up the car due to a long counter line. After waiting in line for more than an hour, I decided to leave the line due to so many still waiting in line ahead of me. Don’t rent cars if you don’t have customer service support.
Excellent service. Was given a hybrid, and was not told it was a hybrid.
