Most Pathetic Rental Experience I've Ever Had
Pros: Van was decent once we finally got it.
Cons: Thrifty in Quito did not have the van we reserved once we showed up at the airport at 10 PM, they gave us no warning before hand. They 8 of us drive to Guayquil, 6 hours out of our way to get it. After we returned the van, they charged us $830 for the miles we put on the cars initially to go get the van. Customer service in Ecuador has been ignoring my requests for a refund. Do not use this rental service.

Cons: They tried to scam into buying extra insurance even though I showed them that I had more than enough coverage, I was told since I booked on line nothing applies to them that their company was a franchise and no American rules apply to them. I did not like the way they tried to convince into paying more. The car that I reserved was not given to me neither, they screwed on that too. .

Customer Service
Pros: The car fit the description and it was clean.
Cons: I had trouble with Thrifty customer service. After I made the reservation I called Thrifty customer service line to receive more information about my rental. When I got to Quito to pick up my car I found out I was told wrong information (I was told I had 900 kilometers per day for my car rental over the phone. Then I was told I had 900 kilometers for the whole trip when I got there). This took me completely by surprise and the person at the counter was unable to help me. I would have found a different rental If it only included 900 kilometers. But I was already in Quito, I needed a car that day and I didn't speak the language well. It was upsetting and embarrassing when I was caught off guard.

Late night Staff doesnt know what they are doing??
Pros: Good suzuki grand vitar, clean, minimal dents and scratches. No problems w vehicle.
Cons: Only one renting a car at midnight, but took clerk 40 minutes to fill out the paper work?! I carry my own insurance, so declined coverage and paid bill in full w credit card. Then when I returned car, they charged me for insurance despite all the original paperwork saying none. Argued for 10 minutes, eventually gave up. They said it was mandatory to take it. Then why do they ask if you want it? Why is it not in the price? Why did I get the original paperwork w out insurance on it. Want to bet if I had an accident I would have had no insurance coverage on their end?

No car available for us!!
Cons: this was a total scam. There was no car available when we got in and we were screwed. No other cars at any of the airport car rental agencies either since it was the holidays. had to spend hundreds of dollars more to take taxi into city center and rent a car from Avis the next day at a charge higher rate since it was so last minute. 8 would never use this service again and am appalled

Trouble in Quito
Pros: Nothing. Didn't have a car wben we arrived at the airport. Waited a day and a half and took a taxi to another office in the city to pick up a car the next day. Though I was covered for insurance through my credit card, would not rent me the car unless I paid for insurance.

Rip off and frustrating mechanically thrifty shoul
Pros: 1. Arrived and immediately told that internet insurance We were sold from booking site is not accepted 2. We were told signing damage waiver is not accepted even though it is described on thrifty contract. But agent at Quito could not show us anything in contract that insurance was mandatory from them She said that is why she was telling us because it is not it writing 3 insurance they offered initially had $1500 deductible and $9500 max value. We had to negotiate just to get $1000 deductible and $20000 just to have enough to cover the car For $25/ day We had already paid $80 on line for $50k coverage 4. Even though flight arrived after midnight agent charged us starting at 5pm so we had to pay extra hours at drop off 5 the Suzuki had an after market chevy alarm that the Attendant did not explain how to use nor supply instructions Alarm would go off every time the door was opened or closed. Even the glove compartment. At one point the alarm went into lockup and could not start the car while stuck on a street in a village in Ecuador jungle Finally got a thrifty mechanic on cell phone to reset it 6 inspite of having two insurance plus our own car insurance they said they keep the 1k damage deposit for for 5 days

Verify class of vehicle and total price locally be
Pros: The car was clean and ready when we got there. The service was friendly and accomodating.
Cons: Not mentioned in the online booking process is the mandatory 1st party insurance, which was $20 a day extra. I had purchased third party insurance through Allianz which they did not accept and so I ended up paying twice for insurance. Additionally, the photo of the "premium" car online was a late model Chevy Tahoe / equivalent. The actual "premium" car we received was a Suzuki Grand Vitara - a substantially smaller and less premium vehicle. We were told it would be $100 more a day to have the actual type of vehicle we reserved. Not the local rental counter's fault - their advertising in-location all had the correct vehicles pictured next to their class names - but the international Thrifty website was wrong.

Car broken and perfect service.
Pros: I liked two things about Avis 1) Originally I booked car via Rentalcars.com. They had confirmed my booking and 1 day before pick up they cancelled it without even sending me email or letting me know! I chat with their support and they said: Sorry, we cannot help you. WTF?! So I had to arrange everything after arrival - at Avis counter there was very nice guy with fluent English that helped us a lot finding a good deal that would be similar to original booking. Thanks again Mr. Francisco P.! Great help! 2) Our car got some engine issue by the end of our trip in the middle of the national park. Avis call center was helpful and they brought us new (much bigger car) in several ours with no question or extra charge. So: Avis rulez - I will use it again next time Rentalcars.com sucks - never more

Extorted for car price when we landed in Quito
Pros: The SUV was clean and comfortable.
Cons: We had reserved a car for $197.43 and few months prior to the trip and had received an email confirmation two days prior to our trip, however when we landed in Quito we were told at the counter that the price of our car was in fact over $1,300. It was too late to change our plans and book a flight instead of drive, thus we we forced to rent the car for only a few days for around $600 and then figure out public transportation for the rest of our trip.

Bait and switch
Pros: Nothing about this experience to like
Cons: Avis does not honor rentals done through Kayak. Avis don't recognize the car size that Kayak gave me or the insurance I signed up for through Kayak. I ended up spending almost 3 times the amount that quoted through Kayak. I will never do business with neither Avis nor Kayak again. The burrito with a competitive market place is that I choices. I will do what I can to spread the word so other people don't need to experience the same

Wont take a debit card
Cons: Refused me service even though I agreed to a $5000 hold on my debit card. Had to take a 6 hour cab ride for $275. Thanks for leaving me stranded at the Quito airport at 4 AM Avis!

HERTZ is by far the Worst & Most Pathetic Customer Service.
Pros: From the begging of the rental, it was a disaster. Two hours into the trip the AC went out in he car. I called their support number only to be made to wait 2 hours so they could send a guy without tools to put his hand infront of the vent and confirm that the AC did not work. Then to be told they dis not have another car to give me. When I finally arrived at Guayaquil (where they had another car for me 240 miles away) the people at the counter had left more than 10 minutes early and forced me to lose an extra day. But the best part was the way Ivan Quillupangi (fleet manager), tried blaming me for scratches on a car that were marked on the paperwork pre-rental and for three tire blow outs due to low air pressure (that was also marked on the paperwork). Not only that but questioning why I changed out the tires intead of calling, even after I advised that the tires blew in an area with no reception at 11:00pm on the side of a mountain. I liked the way that when I told them the brakes in the car were pulsating the response from them was that it was impossible because they had just changed them; however, they left the old brake rotors that were warped and caused the pulsating and lack of stopping power. I liked that once I got back to their Guayaquil office and showed them all this they said that although they can see what I am telling them, the guy on the phone 250 miles away that can't see says different that the proof of pictures, paperwork and items present. When I claimed the scratches were on the paperwork, they said that it was a "misprint" when I showed them the warpage on he brake rotors they pretended not to understand telling me the brakes had been changed. when speak My if the tires they said well you could have hit something and when I asked them to show me what exactly makes them say that or to show me on the tire or rim any impact point, they simply shrugged and said that that is what the guy from Quito (who'd never seen me or the car) said. Last but not least they expected me to provide good customer service by taking the car to and from the airport for inspections. Lastly when I got to the airport they did not have a comparable vehicle for me (7 passenger SUV) and merely had a compact, and expected me to provide a new deposit (after having given $2,400.00 on the current car). In short I was left at the airport stranded without a car. To add insult to injury Hertz ecuador has nothing to do with Hertz US. In all Inlost 4 days out of my trip dealing with their problems and spent an additional 3 days without a car, was forced to buy flights from Guayaquil to Quito and cancel parts of my trip.
