Excellent 10.0
Pros: I really enjoyed the privacy of a stand-alone cottage in the middle of the forest. Since there were only a couple of other guests in the hotel, we could also enjoy the bath fully privately. The location is perfect as a base to hike Shiratani Unsuikyo: a short car ride to the trail head.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Lovely accommodation all made and designed by the owner. Sitting right on the river with direct access. Very specious and comfortable. The hosting family are very kind and helpful.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The hospitality of the hosts. They went out of their way for us all the time. The facilities were fantastic and made wonderful use of the natural surrounds. It was quiet, peaceful and a wonderful stay.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This was a wonderful experience. My wife and I couldn’t recommend this place enough. The room was perfect and the staff (family who runs the place) were extremely helpful and inviting. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Located in quite natural place but convenient to Miyanoura harbor and Shiratani. Star night is awesome when weather is good. Facility is terrific! We got upgraded to independent bathroom and free washing machine & dryer. Last but not least, the staff are so nice and made us feel at home!
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Rarely have we ever experienced the kindly, attentive but discreet, hospitality that we experienced here at Sen-no-Ie. The facilities are the epitome of relaxation: self-contained, spacious (we loved the way high ceilings), comfortable (futons that floated us to sleep), uncluttered, and all natural wood grain from underfoot to overhead. The traditional bathhouse annex was an evening delight. The setting is a sylvan idyll, a forest resort. From start to finish, it was a relaxing, reassuring, and heartwarming stay thanks to superb facilities on beautiful grounds, and gentle proprietors and staff who really care. Free parking.
Cons: Nothing to dislike - at all!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The cottage was beautiful and even had an irori (fireplace) that can be used in winter. The owner was very friendly and we enjoyed flipping through his illustrated manual of how to use the Goemonburo (traditional bath). Our cottage had everything we needed, including an equipped kitchen, and the location was good - Miyanoura port, a supermarket and restaurants are nearby with a car.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location close to restaurants and bus stop to the forests. The whole facility is clear: you feel like you are home. I loved the warm hospitality of the owner and staff. The bathtub is huge. Parking is available for vehicles.
Cons: The housekeeping starts when check out time begins, so it was hard to use bathrooms before check out.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This property is so charming and beautiful. The detailed detailed and interior design remind you of being in a b&b in Europe or an American colonial home. The location is a close 5-min driver to the bus stop for the Arakawa trailhead to Jomon Sugi (the long 22km trek that’s likely on your list). The old couple that manage the property our the most delightful hosts. They made us feel comfortable and we even had a nice chat over sake one night. You have multiple restaurant options in walking distance, including the izakaya across the river SanPotei. The facilities are clean and they provide all the amenities you need including (to our surprise) pajamas! Breakfast is delicious, and they will of course prepare bento for you if you hike to Jomon Sugi. Coffee and alcohol are gratis. There is a shared fridge you can use and there is a washing machine and dryer on the property (bring you 100-yen coins).
Cons: Nothing. Loved it.
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: Booking’s review is very misleading!
Cons: It is just a guest house - not comfortable stay
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Miho is the most wonderful host you can imagine. She thinks about everything before you can even think of it and makes sure you are more than ok with her help and advice. And the breakfast she prepares is absolutely delicious. The house is very comfortable.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Miho is the host of your dreams, can't get any better than this. She helped me to book a rental car (car was at the door next morning), recommended restaurants nearby and even drives you there if the way is too long. Additionally the breakfast is awesome, you should definitely choose this option. House is close to Anbo Port and with a rental car you can easily explore all of the island. Communication is easy and Miho is a genuinely nice person, highly recommend to stay at Miho's place.
Cons: My stay was too short
Excellent 10.0
Pros: - All the recommendations and help that provided me Miho-san, as well as her boss, were invaluable for making the most of my days staying at Yakushima. I immensely appreciate all the attention given. - The breakfasts were awesome. - All the facilities were spotless. - The room I had was quite big and very comfortable. - Regarding the location and some nearby facilities: it is just at less than 4 minutes walk from the bus stop which I used for going to Shiratani Unsuikyo and Yakusugi Land. Additionally, just in front of the bus stop there is a tiny shop that sells obentos in the morning. The rental shop for the trekking equipment is less than 15 minutes walk.
Cons: I have no complaints at all.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very clean, comfortable and quiet. Miho, the host of the property, was exceptional. She went out of her way to ensure my stay was perfect every way.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I had a really nice stay at la Isla Tasse. The location is great, 10 minutes walking distance from the port, near some really good restaurants, bento shops and directly in front of the Ambo river. Also the room is quite spacious for a single room, there‘s no private bathroom but the 2 big bathrooms really make up for it (there‘s even a jacuzzi in each one of them!!). The breakfast was great, everything was spotless. But what made it worth the 10 is the great Miho-san who helped me as I checked in to order the rental car (which was then provided for me in front of the guesthouse), book some kayak courses, gave me advives on the trek and top things to do and she even drove me back to Ambo port after I checked out and so many other things, thanks again for you customer service it was fantastic :)
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Miho's service and breakfast is nice! she will even drive you if you need to rent hiking equipment or go to restaurants! Of course the owner is also kind and helpful. Overall a great staying experience.
Cons: none.
Excellent 9.7
Pros: The owners could not have been friendlier or more welcoming for our one night stay. Though there was a bit of a language barrier (they don't speak much English) they got us situated right away, drove us to the bus office to buy a bus pass, and recommended an excellent sashimi restaurant within walking distance. Our room had an excellent view over the Ambk river and my mom and I slept like logs to the sound of lapping water. Divine! It was nice being right in town and would definitely go back if we return to Yakushima. Also I highly recommend springing for the Japanese style breakfast in the morning. It's a great deal at 500 yen.
Cons: Since the bathroom is shared (we didn't know that) there is some noise from other occupants coming and going down the hall at night. Not a big deal though and part of the program with a b&b style house.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: I stayed in the new building and it was really good. I slept on a futon but it’s super comfortable, the room was pretty big. It’s 20 minutes on foot from the port. You have 2 supermarkets around you and a lot of good restaurants near.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This hotel is designed as a mix between a ryokan and a hostel. It is new, perfectly clean, has all the necessary facilities (except an onsen, if one wants to compare to a traditional ryokan). We had a spacious room with AC and good futons on tatami. The kitchen/lounge is large and well-equipped for cooking and storing food, similar to hostels. Japanese-style furniture only (sitting on the floor), but hey, you are in Japan so embrace it. The owner is very nice, met us at his fishing store and drove his car in front of ours to show the path to the hotel which is a couple of minutes away, in a quiet neighborhood. The location is good, but may be awkward for those who wish to move by public transport or walking. It was fine for us since we rented a car
Cons: the stay would have been perfect if I haven't had forgotten our small bottle of shampoo in the shower. The hotel provides all the toiletries, so it was not necessary to bring ours. Well, that's my fault
Excellent 10.0
Pros: When we checked in, the owner/manager was very patient with my poor Japanese. He also drove ahead of us to show us where the building was. Very kind of him.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff super friendly! And the room wonderful, definitely will come back again~! :)
Cons: No.
Excellent 10.0
I went with my picky mum and we both love it a lot. It is a hostel mixed with a fishing shop. So check-in in the shop. The bus stop for the hiking spots is just outside the shop. The new block is 3min walk from there. It was almost new I could say (Nov 2019). Super clean, tidy, decent, quiet and got anything we needed. There is a kitchen with oven, seasoning and all that, so you can cook to save some money and make your plan more flexible as the restaurants around do not open on some days and the opening hours are quite short (Just to remind the supermarket is near the pier and it take about 10-15mins to walk from the hostel). They can prepare early takeaway breakfast (Japanese bento) like 3:30 in the morning if you are going for a early hike (most hostel there serve the same one with same price).
Excellent 10.0
Highly recommend this place! The facilities have everything you need. Check in and check out were very easy. Shared kitchen, bathrooms (with individual toilet and showers), laundry room, truly everything you can think up. Simple, clean, affordable accommodations with private lockable room. If we had any trouble communicating with the staff, they used a translator and provided us with additional printed information in our language. Very helpful and very kind. The bus stop to all of the local site and hikes is within a 5 minute walking distance.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Location is really close (3km) from trekking bus station for Jumon-sugi. Even though the photos of room looks little cramped but is actually spacious.
Cons: Washroom in summer attracts lot of insect in summer due to light.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Friendly owner, the place is quite isolated but he would take you by car where you need to go, it is interesting to be living in a Mongolian yurta in Yakushima
Cons: The place is isolated so if you have no car you'll be very dependant (i.e. when it rains...and that happens often on the island). Same for restroom, if the weather is good I do not mind, but if you wake up at night and need to go and there's heavy rain that's a bit inconvenient
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The owner and his wife were exceptionally kind- even offering to drive us to restaurants and washing our clothes after we got wet hiking.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Hospitality, equipment, the Mongol house, Yakushima, and the lovely owner.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Mi-Chan, the owner, went above and beyond the duties of a host and drove me to the supermarket and dinner because I didn’t have a car. He also helped me figure out the bus system. He is the friendliest man! Also I had a great dinner at one of the restaurants he recommended, sanpotei, and he look me to see a beach at sunset! Overall a lovely stay!
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The owner was kind. He gave us an interesting talk on the history of various locations around Japan and took us to and from a local recommended restaurant
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Super nice
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Miku-Chan, the owner, was one of the most friendly and helpful host I have ever had. He have all the possible tips to enjoy the island, he prepares sometime snack with local produce and of course the yurt just like the rest of the facility was clean and cozy.
Cons: There was nothing bad at all. The whole facility and experience were perfect. Thank you.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The host is amazing, he took me to supermarkets, restaurants he even took me to the beach and showed me a few things around the island. When I arrived I told him what I wanted to do he planned my trip with bus times which was very helpful as there is little information on busses before you arrive. The room was very cool at night which I was surprised as the island was very hot when I went. I cannot describe how loving and chatty the host was even tho he didn’t speak much English. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to yakushima. I would have payed double the price to stay here. I rate this house 1000/10
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.2
Don't be set back by Mi Kun's eccentric ways and humour, he's the kindest host anyone could wish for! He's been so helpful, and things would have been a lot different if it wasn't for his extensive knowledge of Yakushima. So even if you came half prepared to visit this beautiful island, he will advise you and make the trip as easy as possible according to your desires. On top of that, he regularly asked us if we had any clothes to wash, he sometimes prepared us a small but delicious breakfast, and would drive us around to go grocery shopping (the supermarket is in town) or to go eat at a restaurant. The room is clean, comfortable, and spacious. We booked it in late October, and the blankets were enough for a good and warm night of sleep. Towels are provided, and just like the rooms, the shower is also clean and has hot water. It was overall a pleasant stay and I highly recommend staying there if you're looking for a different experience (it's a yurt after all!)

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Friendly staff, very clean and located near a lot of bars and restaurants.
Cons: The room was a bit dated but everything was in good shape. I would definitely stay again.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location, specious room with ocean view, and our dinner and breakfast were so delicious & made with super fresh local ingredients (Big plus!) Front office team was friendly and restaurant staff members were attentive! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again!
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The food was exceptional and especially the restaurant staff were very friendly, big room, located very close to the port, beautiful surroundings, the hotel shop had a nice selection of snacks and souvenirs
Cons: Nothing actually, but if I have to be picky it would have been awesome with an outdoor onsen (the indoor onsen was good, though).
Excellent 9.0
Pros: We got a Japanese tatami room and it was comfortable. The public bath is nice. Jew is incredible. Easy walk to town for dinner.
Cons: It is slightly dated.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: Both of the facility and service are very good. The staff is very kind and caring. I enjoyed the meals too.
Cons: It was a bit shame that I couldn’t use the sauna(岩盤浴) due to a Covid measure.
Good 6.0
Pros: Staff were kind and helpful. Onsen was nice. Good location despite the bad weather we had. Room was huge.
Cons: It’s fairly dated and could do with an upgrade. Not much is offered for the price.
Good 7.2
Some younger staff are very helpful as I cannot speak Japanese very well while some senior staff tends to be a bit impatient. I wasn’t feeling very confortable while they arrange my futon during house keeping but just throw my PJ on the floor like a punch of dirty clothes. Have room for improvements definitely
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Bus stop outside the hotel and a restaurant with local fish across the road. Noise travels easily through the walls. Could hear the person next to me watching TV and snoring. Nice public bathroom.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Nice place overall, great breakfast since not that many options nearby. The room was a bit old, though seemed to be renovated. What we liked the most is window view - amazing seascape.
Cons: Would be great to have options for early check-in to change clothes instead of doing it in bathroom.
Good 7.2
A little outdated, but overall good. Local bus to downtown restaurants and supermarket.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. Several could communicate in english with me. The breakfasts and dinner were traditional Japanese cuisine and very delicious. The hotel was clean and had a lovely view of the ocean. The location was great and several different restaurants are in walking distance!
Cons: The bed was harder than i prefer.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent hotel and I loved my twin room with its big windows, light and coziness. I even extended my stay by a day. The staff here go out of their way to help. Two nearby bus stops (for going south or north around the island or to the Anbo Port) and within walking distance. One bus goes to Yakusugi Land which is excellent for hiking. Bus times back are limited so I hitched a ride back after a 3 hour hike which was about the right distance for me. Cars (if you have an international driver's license) , and regular and electric bikes can be rented nearby but the owner has unpredictable hours. Also there are very good nearby restaurants, two within a 5 minute walk and a lovely coffee/chai stand that is 10 minutes away. Great bugers at Mos Burger and a variety of food including sushi very close by. I stayed in Mynoura, Anbo and in a cottage near Hirauchi Onsen on the south side of the island and would say that Anbo is the most convenient location for shopping, ATM at post office (closes at 6pm each day) and other services. Nice breakfast buffet.
Cons: Only thing missing is a more attractive garden from the onsen to look at and electrical bikes and regular bikes to rent (or provide for free) from hotel. I'm one of those people who don't at all need such a big gift shop but I do need bikes to get around. Having to rely on the local bike shop that has irregular hours was a bummer. Also, need to be able to refer a masseuse and not just tell me to use the massage chair which is a nice bonus but I wanted a real live massage. Also, I think the stone spa treatment should be included in cost of hotel. I thought it was way too expensive for what it was and I was disappointed in it.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The hotel had a lovely garden in the back and a great view of the ocean. I also really liked the size for three people - very comfortable and not at all cramped. The front desk was super helpful - the woman on duty called a variety of car dealers in order to help us find a place to rent a car.
Cons: The location wasn't perfect. I would have preferred being slightly closer to the port.
Excellent 10.0
Great views of sunrise from the rooms and from the breakfast room! Super clean. Nice free perks in the room. Well done onsen w/ massage chairs. Super friendly staff. The buffet breakfast offers food from Japan and around the world that is fresh and very well done. It was so hard to not over eat. Convenient location to hit both the north and south sides of the island and easy access to dinner options (fabulous sushi in walking distance and a downtown about 10 minutes away with several great local restaurants). A little pricey compared to what you can get in Kyoto, but given the island location it's still worth it by far!
Excellent 8.4
Hotel's staff try every effort to communicate with customers for warm and kindness service. Well done.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Excellent location and very spacious! The staff were always so helpful and polite, everything with a smile. ありがとうみなさん! I loved the free tea and biscuits in the room and the free onsen. The supermarket opposite the hotel has some tasty food and drinks. This hotel really made my vacation perfect!

Pros: The property has a nice Onsen. It is great place to relax after doing long hikes. Dinner and breakfast were good. Located walking distance to the airport.
Cons: We went during a Japanese holiday weekend. The price was expensive but that is expected. The power went out a few times during intense thunderstorms. The bed was a little cheap. I recommend tatami room if you go.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: Excellent location with rooms overlooking the river and a short walk to some restaurants and a good large grocery store. Be advised though, some local restaurants will not serve you if you are a Westerner because of "corona virus." Best restaurant with excellent paella is the Sea Glass House. Friendly and woman-owned and woman chef. One excellent woman staff person who speaks English. Otherwise, get ready to pull out the Google translate.
Cons: Place is very old school with very slow internet, very thin pads for the tatami mats (I used three to be able to sleep comfortably) and a depressing and cold entrance. The onsen is passable but does not look out on the gorgeous scenery. Heaters work well in rooms but I had to ask for a bedside lamp. I've stayed at lots of traditional Japanese inns but I think this one is charging too much for what it is offering off-season. I found a full cottage in town for $60, instead of $100 for a room per night.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Great location, right next to the river with a view of the mountains, and with a bus stop outside with busses heading up to some of the nicest (and most accessible) forest trails, as well as the busses round the island and to the ports/airport. Good quality dinner and breakfast. Nice, large rooms in the traditional Japanese tatami-and-futon style. The onsen includes a sauna and plunge pool, which was a really nice touch.
Cons: Feels a little dated away from the bedrooms, but nothing major. It's a shame there's no view from the onsen - it's quite functional.
Good 7.0
Pros: The location was perfect, less than 10min from the closest supermarket, 10~15min to the restaurant areas, 10km from the parking lot of Shiratani Unsuiko parking lot. Staffs were friendly and helpful. They have a shuttle to pick up and drop off at the airport or port. Our room had a nice view on the river. The room itself was spacious enough for 2 and clean.
Cons: n/a
Okay 5.6
We chose this hotel as they were saying river view, yes there is a small river flowing but not very scenic or fantastic. The rooms very very old and run down and need repair works. The hotel helped to provide vegetarian dinner but it was very basic not like the vegetarian keiseki dinner I had in other places. During the first nite dinner, the place was very noisy due to some gathering going on next to our dinner room. Most noisy dinner I ever had in japan. Onsen was a put off as the water was not very clean and had dust and hair in the water. Sure I won’t be staying here if I go back to Yakushima The plus point is the hotel staff are very friendly.
Excellent 8.0
Staff is very nice The dinner was disappointing Pudding was delicious
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The onsen and yukata, very good traditional breakfast
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Amazing food amazing staff great place. Highly recommend!
Cons: It was perfect
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, great food and views from the room. Also, the onsen was a great addition to our stay!
Excellent 8.3
Pros: very clean and comfortable, we had a good rest after hiking
Cons: poor wifi connection
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Japanese style accommodation with communal bath available. I slept in a futon on tatamis with a view on the river. Very nice staff and nice traditional Japanese food. The staff can pick you up and take you back to the airport upon request.
Cons: nothing it was all great!
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Great service and friendly staff. Spacious and comfortable room overlooking the river. Really beautiful! Felt very safe and peaceful. Had an onsen included which was a nice feature.
Cons: We got a room that had been smoked in. An older hotel but not bad.

Good 7.0
Pros: organized and functional - good value for money
Cons: not very stylish - fairly basic facilities
Excellent 8.0
Pros: A good example of simple Japanese accommodation away from a big city. A good sized tatami mat room which was both living room and bed (futon) room, also a small side room with chairs and a small table. Breakfast was basic Japanese style, we did manage to get a cooked egg, rather than the normal raw egg to go onto the rice. Dinner was available but we chose to eat nearby. There is a very close supermarket. Staff were very friendly although not much english is spoken. A rental car is useful for sightseeing.
Cons: Did not take Visa card for payment. Coffee not normally offered at breakfast. Not signposted in English from the access road.
Good 7.9
Pros: Good value for money and got a lovely corner room with 8 mats and more. Futons were fine and laundry was crisp and clean.
Cons: The smell of smoke from the rooms where smoking is allowed permeated the corridor and made going to the bathrooms down toilet quite unpleasant.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great location, good breakfast, beautifully clean room and access to laundry, nice staff.
Cons: Not a complaint but a note to those not used to futons that you may find sleeping on a hard surface challenging, especially if muscle sore after lots of hiking.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Yakusugi-su is a typical minshiku in a small town on a small island. The tatami room had a nice view on the river front. Food was excellent and people nice, friendly and very helpful.
Good 7.1
Pros: Nice house, nice room, the car ride to the ferry terminal
Cons: Walls are really really thin, futon not that comfortable
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Quiet location yet near public transport and shops, modernised traditional style. Very helpful and friendly staff who let me check in early due to the cyclone creating havoc with plans. A very cosy and comfortable stay : )

Excellent 9.0
Pros: We booked the triple room with bathroom and it was very clean and spacious. There were washing machines where you can use for free which is a very nice gesture. The inn was within walking to several restaurants. The breakfast was simple but good portions and very delicious. The family who run this place are very efficient and warm. On departure they even sent us to the ferry terminal as it was drizzling. It was such a nice gesture!
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: comfy bed ...good toilet shower has kitchen shared facilities
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The location is excellent ! Outside the house is a bus stop to multi location which makes life much easier ! The staff are very helpful and nice.
Cons: More open space
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Very close to bus stop. Host are nice. Room is clean.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Super friendly owner Good breakfast Close to the ferry dock, bus stop and restaurants Functional rooms
Excellent 8.8
Pros: 1. The host is an old couple and they are so nice in introducing us about Yakushima (the popular restaurant nearby and the hiking route). Despite they can’t speak English, they used translate app to communicate with us. 2. The room is equipped with private shower room which is very rare in Yakushima. It is clean and tidy. 3. The homemade Japanese breakfast was so nice and the dishes changed everyday. 4. The location is so convenient with free parking space. Supermarket is just 1 minute drive away. 5. There is fridge, washing machine and drying machine for sharing.
Cons: 1. The room was filled with some smell.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Staff were great. Very clean and private guest house style. Comfortable stay.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Cosy room in Japanese style.
Good 7.9
Pros: Very nice staff, clean room, great breakfast, prime location next to the ports, free parking, free washing machine (paid dryer)
Cons: Matress is very thin, hard to sleep. Every sound from the hallways gets into the room. Cash only payment.
Excellent 10.0
Hosts were very helpful and can speak English. We enjoyed breakfast both days and each day had different items and was very good. Location close to bus stop to Shiratani and short walk from the ferry.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very friendly owners, about 5-7 mins walk from the closest bus stop and coin laundry. Supermarket 13 mins walk. Beautiful views (minus the power lines) at sunset of the ocean and mountain. No wifi and western beds weren’t super comfortable. Shared fridge but private bath plus tv and kettle with cups in the room.
Good 7.0
Pros: There was no breakfast. I think Covid related.i liked having a private bathroom in the room. The shower was the best part of the room.
Cons: I would have liked breakfast but Covid might have been why .
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Clean rooms and with en suite. I also left some Important stuff there and they kindly posted it to me.
Cons: If you don’t have a car it is a bit of a walk up from the bus stop. No internet.
Okay 5.0
Pros: Pleasant couple that runs the place. Kindly have us a lift to the ferry terminal. Very clean
Cons: Rooms feel more like old school classrooms that they’ve put beds into. Whole place in desperate need of a revamp. Very dated and therefore at $100 a night, very expensive.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I’ve already stayed at pension skyview last year and i can definitely recommend it. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, with good WiFi-access and aircon, bathroom with bathtub and electronic toilet. Very yummy japanese breakfast. The owners of the guesthouse are so very kind and helpful. During my stay I got a cold and stayed in bed for a day. They provided me with a second blanket and even dinner when they realized I didn’t leave the room. I’m very thankful and will definitely come again!
Good 6.7
Pros: Nice old couple mending the place
Cons: No internet and no hairdryer
Excellent 9.2
Pros: This property is like a camp dormitory or hostel with private rooms, a dining area on the roof with a view of the ocean, nice beds and toilets in each room...the location is excellent because it is close to the ferry, grocery store, post office (which has the ATM), and it's also close to Shiratani Utsuikyo and the major shrines (Yakushima Shrine and Yaku Shrine). The hosts are very kind and friendly! I highly recommend this as a place to stay, especially if you plan on hiking. The deep tub is a great way to relax afterward.
Cons: The rooms get pretty cold at night so make sure you run your in-room air con unit for heat!

Okay 5.0
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Granted that we travelled during the Olympic weekend, prices were higher than expected, but the least one could expect was a nice and comfortable room. The futon was not comfortable and the room felt dirty and old. There was a balcony in our room but we didn’t even go outside as the floor was so dirty.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: It has a great location overlooking a beautiful river which flows drom the mountains to the sea. The staff were so friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. All the equipment and amenities needed to explore the island are available there. Definitely recommend this hotel for your stay. Not far from all the major places you'll need to visit.
Excellent 10.0
Nice river views and location, hot spring in two floors was nice too.
Excellent 10.0

Pros: From our room, we could enjoy a great view on the port. The location is perfect as it is a walking distance from the center. The breakfast can be enjoyed with a peaceful view on the Anbo river.
Cons: The futon were not comfortable
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Really friendly staff. Great location if travelling by bus around the island, to Yakusugimuseum and Yakusugiland. Beautiful view from the room. Good breakfast.
Cons: Room/decor worn out, seen its best days and would need update. Taken this into account, price was high.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff very accommodating and pleasant. Arranged taxi as well for early morning transit
Excellent 9.2
Pros: We stayed 7 nights, and chose this guest house based on previous reviews. Probably because of end of year timing, there were no English speaking staff. The guest house was run by a very lovely elderly couple who ensured we were comfortable despite language barriers. This was the main reason for 5-star review. The tatami room was large and comfortable, but always smelt damp on entering. Had a sink in the room which was useful. The bath was just divine everyday after long hikes. We were the only guests for a few days, and realised the walls were quite thin on days with other guests. Most people were considerate of this. Free use of washing machine, dryer 100yen. Breakfast and dinners were great, traditional Japanese style - a must try. Ramen shop to the left of guest house is not on google maps - also a must try (just walk next door). We are a minute drive from large supermarket and yen store, and across from that is an amazing cafe/restaurant with top quality pasta and pizza, plus other fusion dishes. Perfect for a rainy slow day. Hired hiking for 2-days shoes for 1000yen. Very new and clean. They forgot to order our bento lunch boxes, and elderly gentleman was awake at 430am making rice balls for us that he would not charge us for. Very deserving of 5-stars and great to support a local family. Also check out Bless Yakushima in Anbo!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: friendly staff, good dinner
Cons: If the breakfast can change for guests who stay more days, it will be much better!
Excellent 8.3
Pros: The breakfast was splendid. The staff was very friendly and always happy to help.
Cons: The internet speed was pretty slow.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Cleanliness Staff Rental equipment
Good 7.1
Pros: I loved the breakfast which was a traditional Japanese style and the Japanese bath was great. The staff were friendly and helpful-we got driven to the bus stop early in the morning.
Cons: I thought the room had a funny smell, it was a bit stuffy. The location was slightly further out than expected (about 15 minute walk to the town) which was not bad but something to consider if you don't like walking.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Naru was amazing! He kindly booked for our restaurant for the night. They have a dry room for hikers which was a plus.
Cons: Our room smells moldy + the tatami smell which I'm not used to. The ac is not working very well, as it takes a long time for the room to feel cold air.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The owners are really kind and the bath is comfortable and really hot
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very friendly staff. They are very helpful and cheerful. Will certainly visit there again.
