Hotels near Lihue airport

Pros: Very spacious apartment, beautiful grounds, excellent location, friendly hosts. An Alexa playing with Hawaiian music on when we arrived. Very comfy beds. Good airconditioning. Good wifi.

Cons: It was expensive, but that's like almost every other place on Hawaii nowadays.

Pros: Location was ideal. Paul had everything you could possibly need to enjoy the island; beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, coolers, snorkels and masks, etc. Laundry facility was so nice to have. Having kayaks and bikes right there to use was just great! On arrival, the cottage was decorated with fresh flowers and had some treats waiting for us. The kitchen was really well stocked.

Cons: The air-conditioner was really loud as it filled to begin its cycle. Woke us up every time. We needed to run it due to allergies and to drown out the roosters and road noise.

Pros: So many amenities!

Pros: Paul and his staff at Fern Grotto were great. They had a very personal touch with a card on arrival. There are bikes,kayaks, and paddle boards for your use. Great access to the river. Very close to beaches and hiking and food trucks.

Pros: Very clean. Great location. Comfortable living quarters. Laundry facilities on the premises plus accessibility to paddleboards, kayaks, bikes, barbecues.

Cons: Construction noise all day long. Road noise all morning long.

Pros: Paul is an incredible host, and one of the more thoughtful people I’ve ever come across. The property is beautiful and well-maintained, and my unit was so nice that I spent as much time there as I did exploring Kauai. I made the brave decision to visit Kauai during COVID and without a car and Paul was kind enough to show me around and point out the best places to eat in Kapa’a. Also, the units are isolated enough where you have complete and total privacy if you’d like, but close enough to effortlessly come out and mingle with other guests. There’s a less popular beach that’s about a 5-minute walk and while it probably won’t be crowded compared to the others, it’s an amazing place to watch the sunrise. I also enjoyed standing out on Paul’s property and watching some equally stunning sunsets as well.

Pros: It was clean. Our accommodations in a 2 bedroom was large and well furnished with all the necessary cooking utensils. We were pleasantly surprised at two full bathrooms. The property was beautiful and the view from our room was spectacular. The lanai was enjoyable and the pool and hot tub were very pleasant also. I loved the location.

Pros: Location is great, but the best was the garden and the ocean nearby. You can hear the ocean just sitting in your room with open door.

Cons: Nothing I can think of. Maybe a little problem might be that the pool bar closes at 6 pm and for the local restaurant there are long queues, so you can try to plan ahead.

Pros: The location was great - next to many good dining spots and easy access to both the north and south of the island. The beach at the property was also very nice. The sunrise from the beach was beautiful.

The location is excellent and the staff is friendly and helpful. The standard rooms are small - I recommend the kitchenette. Parking can be dicey, though free valet helps.

Pros: Service was outstanding. The restaurant was absolutely superb. Best dinners we’ve ever had.

Cons: Nothing the hotel could change. Just was a bit disappointed the ocean really is not conducive for swimming. Better for surfing. But the location, service, view, and restaurant made up for that part.

The hotel is really charming, more like a resort with two pools, jacuzzi, bar / restaurant right on the beach, with waterfront views. Rooms are large, convenient, and clean. We really loved it and felt we did not have enough time to enjoy the hotel as we were touring around the island most of the time. We really loved it and didn't want to leave. The only thing though is the price - it was really expensive.

We were looking for somewhere that would be clean, accessible, comfortable, and would not break the bank. This hotel was wonderful to stay at! You are right on the beach, close distance to shopping and many options for food (most restaurants are very expensive but that is how it is all over Hawaii). The staff is nice but they probably could have done more to help with suggestions about activities or places to go or assistance when we were not able to find a single rental car for a single day of the 10 days we were there. They do offer bikes but you have to get them before they are all taken and they can only be gone for 4 hours at a time. They have corn hole on the grounds which was nice. The rooms are nice with a comfortable bed and nice TV. They have communal microwaves but we didn't know that until later on. They do have laundry on site for $2 in quarters per cycle. The bathrooms are small and not great and the toilet could have been cleaner. They give you beach towels and you can swap out whenever you need. There are 2 pools as well. We were very happy with our stay at the Kauaii Shores Hotel.

Cons: Just one person from the staff was rude and toke the towels from the pool and we was there, was around 8pm. She even talk to us a little rude a couple more times. All other staff was so nice, specially the valet parking boy. They need a shuttle from air

Cons: The room we booked was apparently right next door where they were doing construction , woke up to loud noise and ladders banged along with workers laughing and yelling at 7:30 am, then children across the way screaming accompanied by the workers sawing.

Cons: There is "free" parking in very tiny stalls. There are not enough spaces for the number of guests staying and the spaces are tiny. They require you to valet your car if you do not have a spot. For us, the staff was not accommodating and it's run down.

Pros: Kauai Shores was a great home base, as it's halfway between the farthest points on the island (otherwise it's 2+ hours from extreme to extreme). We spent full days on the south and north sides, but some our favorite times were on the beach right next to the hotel. It's lovely and clean and the staff is super friendly.

Cons: Front staff is not the most outgoing but then again maybe I'm use to the Aloha Spirit at resorts. I think the check-in and front lobby area should be updated, just because everything else is and it would be a great first impression. The bathroom is small. This hotel is in a good location, about a 2 minute drive from some shops and restaurants and a good jumping off point to explore the whole island. It's only 20 mins from the airport but you don't hear the airplanes. The hotel itself has a nice pool area and offers a simple continental breakfast each morning. It's a buffet style- toast, muffins, cupcakes, fruit, tea, coffee and juice. Our room was clean and tidy but quite dated. This place could do with some money spending on it to bring it up to date.

The hotel grounds were gorgeous, with palm trees, flowers, lizards, and birds. The complimentary breakfast (fresh fruits and breads) in an outdoor space was a lovely way to start each day. We met the hotel manager, Ron Kikumoto, during breakfast, and he graciously offered to show us his collection of native Hawaiian artifacts. We went to his office, and he gave us a thorough explanation of Hawaiian history, culture, and artifacts. He also gave us some recommendations of things to do on Kauai and even on the Big Island, where we were headed next. If you stay at the Kauai Inn, be sure to talk with Ron!

Pros: The room was large and exceptionally clean. Enjoyed the private verandah off our room with beautiful plantings creating privacy. Lovely pool area and continental breakfast. Staff were very attentive and because our room was ready, they were kind enough to let us in much earlier. They have SPECIAL SPECIAL rates for all of Kauau's activities. You'll enjoy this boutique hotel. We'll certainly be back.

Cons: They are very old, they badly need to be upgraded to 2020! The grade if kitchen essentials were cheap, thin , scratched up dishes & pans, plastic bowls, dollar store utensils. Carpeting leading upstairs was badly worn , entire first level was linoleum. The air conditioning was window units, upstairs didn’t work properly and rattled the windows running😵. Bathrooms tub was worn, molding coming off…Msin level bathroom had no supplies. Some of these were rentals and some had people living year round… For a little more money, save yourself the aggravation and stay at the Marriott.

Pros: We needed one extra night between timeshares. We were able to stay here, which is where our 2nd week is! The staff were so friendly and accmodating to our situation. We were able to stay in the “hotel” room until our timeshare room was ready. It was just a few doors away, and in the pouring rain, it made moving so much easier. It’s an older facility, but very clean and the location is awesome!

Pros: - next to cosy beach (don't forget coral slippers) - next to marketplace with plenty of businesses and shops - nice view from balcony

Cons: - no food service on-site (at least neighbour hotel and market were serving - 100-200m from this hotel) - pool bar drinks were below average (again neighbour bars did great job) - it was surprise you need to order room service (they could change towels at least once a day - of course you can ask replacement in front desk)

Pros: Outside of the incident described below the place has a lot of potential: beautiful beach, nice (but overpriced) restaurants & shops nearby, Saturday market with fresh fruits, local dancing events, and massage on the beach.

Cons: A few hours after checking in, we discovered a bunch of bugs roaming our bed. Once I reported the incident it was clearly not a surprise for a staff member on the desk. She didn't want to look at photos, didn't offer any explanation, options, or even a simple apology. Just asked to "wait and be patient", while serving other customers. I wasn't sure if I should start looking for another place to say during the high season - don't want to sound dramatic, but that was a terrible experience, not the best way to start a vacation. Eventually, we were given a room with a worse view, on a top floor next to the noisy restaurant... but bug-free! Again no apologies or compensation for a worse room (I paid extra for the ocean view). No options to choose from, just a statement: "This is your room now".

Cons: The check in staff were unapologetic about needing your license plate( on a rental so had to go look)- and then making you go back to your car a second time to put a parking tag in the vehicle. The room that was “ocean view” was just a view of the entire grounds with lawn, pool, etc and the ocean over a football field away… you could barely see it. My room had only decaf coffee and when I went to the desk to ask for caffeinated coffee they would hand me the k- cups 2 at a time. I was scheduled to be there all week. Rooms in my building are walk up ( 3 stories) Didn’t love it for the price. The tub did not drain properly- kind of gross tub.

Had a lovely stay at the Islander. Grounds are beautiful and it has the comforts of a larger resort without the crowds. Being so close to the Coconut Marketplace was also incredibly useful during our stay!

Cons: The pictures of tge hotel aren¿t the same as when you get there. The rooms are small. It said ocean view and I had no ocean view just in front of the parking lot. I asked to be moved since the tv didn¿t work and was crappy room with no view.

Cons: This is not a hotel. It is a timeshare or condo. When we arrived at 8 pm, there was no one there, and had to call security to get room key. The room was three floors up, with no elevator. The room smelled upon entry, and the a/c was spotty.

The resort is close to shopping, beach and restaurants. Not far from the airport. Loved the pool and spa and the room was beautiful. The reception staff were young and unhelpful when we asked for information. They didnt organise the airport shuttle to pick us up from the airport but credited part of our taxi fare after. Would still stay there again though.

Pros: Loved the lush, beautiful gardens”must be spectacular and fragrant, when the plumeria is in bloom! We also loved the proximity to the beach and the gorgeous beach itself. The staff couldn''t be nicer, including the activities coordinator so helpful!

Cons: We followed the rules about putting towels to be replaced in the tub, however it appeared that the towels were all replaced every day regardless of our wishes. Also, I long for paper & plastic recycling options.

This was a idealize area with simply get to the south and west coast one day, the north coast the following, with bounty of eateries and basic need stores adjacent, as well as a near drive to the air terminal. The room was a bit dated but exceptionally clean - a greater sink for our dishes and an in-house broom to clear up the sand trekked in from the shoreline would be decent. This lodging was fair what we required.

The resort itself is beautifully landscaped and ideally situated on the beach. Our oceanfront/beachfront room was renovated but there were signs of age in various areas, including the balcony area and front door. I loved the toiletries. We liked walking to Lava Lava Beach Club next door for dinner and breakfast. The Coconut Marketplace is also just a few steps away. We enjoyed the pool. The beach was nice but the waves were too choppy to swim. Overall a nice property to stay in but will need a more comprehensive renovation soon. In the meantime, we recommend booking an oceanfront/beachfront renovated room. We will definitely look to stay here again should we have another opportunity to visit Kauai in the near future.

We loved it here. Older plantation style buildings and property that are well maintained and staffed. Had pool and ocean view from our balcony on second floor. Security walking grounds at night made property feel safe and secure. Nearby shops and restaurants within walking distance. Parking was an issue and sometimes had to park down street next to adjacent property. Was able to snorkel right off beach on calmer days and saw dozens of tropical fish within just a short walk from our room. Pool bar was open at night to purchase beer and tropical drinks. We picked Kapaa as a central location or midway point to explore the island as we used a rental car to drive to both ends of the road on multiple occasions.

Pros: Cleanliness of buildings and the yard as well as rooms. Pool-side bar.

Cons: There isn't enough parking for all of the guest units - finding parking was always frustrating when returning to the resort at night. The reservation I made through kayak was somewhat misleading because I purchased the ocean view room (as opposed to the partial ocean view room) assuming that it would be a unit on the ocean front but I guess there was another category that wasn't listed at the time. I thought I was getting an ocean front room but got a room that I would consider more of a partial ocean view - looking onto the pool instead. There was an additional almost $20 daily resort fee that included wifi and a few other things but seemed to be an outrageous additional cost.

Pros: It is a beautiful facility - clean and well maintained. I chose it because the beach right next to the pool and right up to the bar. The hotel is nice as it is split into separate buildings. We were given an upgrade to an ocean view room. Each room has it's own lanai.

Cons: The lanais could be nicer - the old air conditioner unit on it was not so nice, and there was no thermostat in the room so we had to climb on top of the couch to turn it on and off.. Would be great if they had a continental breakfast or muffins or something and not just coffee (though it was great and I'm a coffee snob) in the morning.

Cons: I had a room with adjoining double doors. The doors allowed a lot of noise to pass through. I had extremely rude neighbors who kept the neighbors on all sides awake and security was called by other neighbors multiple times. I didn't get the impression that this was the norm for this hotel. I've stayed here before and not had any other problems. Multiple days of this trouble did however make my trip less than relaxing.

Hotel was a little dated; but generally nice. Staff made it better; especially Servers Towel bar, at the Bar by the beach and Melissa. Music was fun. Could add some to the menu's. Rooms were dated and beds are two small for two adults. I'd still go back. Comfortable. Nice facility. Great Spa services.

We were not happy with our original third floor Lanai as we would need to sit on high stools to see anything, but not a problem, they moved us to the 5th floor and the Lanai was PERFECT!!!. The monk seal that visited the very nearby beach was also a plus. Moat of the staff was very nice.

Cons: There was some construction at the time of our stay, but we were pretty far away. The staff at time of check in was somewhat reminiscent of being at the airport, but I’ve heard people in Kauai don’t really like tourists anyways.

Pros: We had a peaceful stay right next to a park. Most services were suspended due to COVID-19, but the beautiful pool was open, and there were very few other guests around. The grounds were well kept, the staff was friendly and the food at the restaurant was tasty. I stayed in a “deluxe ocean view”. I could only see a tiny portion of the ocean since I was on the back side of what was till considered an ocean view. I thought about complaining, but I wasn’t in Kauai for my hotel room after all. I had 2 lomi massages at the onsite spa. I must say they were the best massages I’ve ever had. Book one ahead of time as they fill up fast and is perfect for a rainy day.

Pros: Amazing location, beautiful driveway to the Resort. We had an amazing time there, we stayed 3 night. A lot of good things to visit are close by but you will need a car. Prices are a little all over the place but Spa for example is cheaper than neighboring resorts. Overall very good value, clean nice rooms, clean pools and clean resort overall.

Cons: Some buildings need some reno. Lot of rust on buildings and the ones that are “renovated” they just simply painted over rust with white paint. As I mentioned prices are all over. Food is very expensive and its mediocre, the shop is also very expensive. Funny thing is Grand Hyatt is a much more expensive place to stay (we are staying here 4 night after Kauai beach resort) yet food is about the same or cheaper (but its much better) same with the shop. Also room smelled like the A/C hasnt been cleaned in a long time and it also did not work that well.

Cons: At the end of our stay, we waited for the shuttle. When we had waited the appropriate amount of time, we asked again about the shuttle not being there. They told us the roads were closed due to a car accident and the shuttle was stuck in traffic. We asked about another shuttle possibly being sent out with us and the other couple waiting for the same thing. They told us the wouldn't send another one out because they assumed both sides of the road were closed. They told us our best bet was to start walking. It was 3.5 miles to the airport! When we walked out to the main Street, we realized the traffic was only stopped on one side of the road, and the other side was open for traffic that way (towards the airport!). They just didn't want to bother sending another shuttle out! Horrible customer service! About 1.5 miles into our walk, a nice man stopped and let us ride with him. Would not recommend this place due to this incident.

Cons: The resort appears to be concerned about vacationers stealing from the hotel. Towels must be checked in and out with a towel card. Failure to turn in a towel card at the end of the stay will result in a $20 fee per card. Our iron was attached to the ironing board via a short cord. This made it very difficult to use. I assume the cord was to prevent me from taking the iron home? This is the first time I've run into issues over towels and irons. Otherwise the resort was okay.

Pros: I liked the free shuttle to and from the airport. There's also a free shuttle from the resort to a shopping center in Lihue. It was helpful to go to the grocery store there and get snacks instead of solely relying on Resort food, which was good but it gets pricey. The property was big and not overly crowded. It was my first time on the Island (February 2016) so I don't know if crowds change during the rest of the year. The staff was friendly and helpful anytime I had requests/questions.

Cons: You absolutely need a car unless you plan to spend the entire time lounging at the resort. I did manage to walk along the beach heading North to Lydgate Park. From there I was able to hike even further North to Kapaa and the Kauai Eastern trail. I absolutely did not mind the walk but it is a looong walk (more than 10 miles). Also, there were a lot of hotel taxes. Not sure how their prices compare to other areas of the island, but I'd look elsewhere when I visit Kauai again. I didn't have a car but there where even more taxes for every night of having a car.

They also have towels, beach chairs and other accessories for the beach available for no cost.Twice during the week the owner made a delicious sweet potato pie with fruit on top. If you're looking for a small boutique inn and not a major change give Garden Island Inn a serious look.

Cons: It was a little difficult to find but once we did the location was convenient to shopping, groceries, restaurants and getting to both parts of the island.

For night we checked out two DVDs (no rental charge) and were given a free bag of microwave popcorn to enjoy with our films!

The lack of shuttle to the villas was a challenge.

The calm ocean beach front was excellent, as well as the amazing pool which was opened until 10 pm! The bar was nice too! The king crab buffet was ok for $53, we enjoyed it. Best it was centrally located to both north, south , east and west of island. I had an amazing stay and did not want to leave.

We ordered peppercorn steak $40 and roasted vegetable salad $15? , and porguese soup, all was below average. Cons: Pools are small and the restaurant recently changed their menu to be more Japanese-Hawaiian, which just seemed weird and pretty bland.

Pros: Hotel is next to a beach park and you can walk there. Free parking was good and wifi worked well. Central location makes it easy to drive to top Kauai spots. Room was good, staff was friendly.

Cons: Some common areas look like they could use a refresh, but the rooms were updated.

There were mosquitos around the dining area., resulting in many mosquito bites. Due to this, we opted not to dine at the hotel. We had booked a room for 3 adults. Upon arrival were given a room with no sofa bed, and needed to be transferred to another. The second room allotted did not have a functional sofa bed. Only after much negotiation, the resort fees was waived.

Pros: This is an old Aston, with a room remodel, new furniture. Grounds look terrible, In the front there is a tenniscourt, well, once there was. I bought this as a 4 star, but since then you downgraded it to a 3,5 star. Get real. This is 2,5 star property.

Pros: The room was clean, bed was comfortable. I was thankful to have AC and an easy to control TV for at night. The blinds were good and the entry key was old school, so no problems at all. Ice was available and lemon ice water too.

Cons: The parking lot was close to the rooms and sometimes people were noisy. But I always bring ear plugs no matter where I go. Overall I was pleased.....I did miss out on deals. I saw advertised prices for much less when I got there, so that disappointed me.

Pros: The rooms and grounds were surprisingly clean and well kept for as old as the property is. It was very close to the airport, which we wanted.

Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable, I was glad we only used the room as a cleanup spot before our redeye flight. The parking was kinda tight as well, but it was very clean and super close to the airport so it worked out well for us.

Some rooms had window units but ours did not, which was perfect since I personally loved that I could just open the windows and let that fresh Hawaiian breeze blow right through. It's very close to the airport, grocery store and restaurants. This was a lovely quaint hotel that was nice to retire to after a long day of exploring and adventure seeking. The bed was incredibly comfortable. While the room may be very small it was perfect for just my daughter and I. Very clean, hot shower, great price and most of all quiet with only the wind rustling through the palm trees, and the occasional rooster. This is not your typical resort environment. If that's what you are looking for this is definitely not it.

We had a good-sized room with 2 twins and a king bed. Clean and quiet. Nice shower. 5-min AM walk to a nice coffee shop (Ha Coffee Bar), also close to the place where you get your camping permits. If you're looking for luxury, this ain't it, but it's a great spot for people who like a nice, clean, quiet place. The service was very friendly as well. This wasn't really a problem since we weren't there long, but the WiFi was a bit weak and only seemed to accommodate one user at a time.

Our room had no AC which was not a big deal in April since opening windows made it comfortable. Just don’t expect to sleep in if you do open the windows since Kauai’s famous roosters along with early bird guests walking past your window will make sure you are awake around 6:30 am. The front desk isn’t staffed at night so if you are arriving late let them know that. They will text you instructions on self check in which basically means your room will be unlocked and the key will be left on the table for you. If the front parking is full they have more spots down an alley around back. So don’t expect a resort, but for cheap and comfortable accommodations this place did its job well.

Cons: The room was dirty. We found a brown pill (probably ibuprofen) by the bed, lint around the edges of the baseboards (like no one had vacuumed well in a long time). There was only 1 tissue left in the box and we had to request more. We were there for 5 days and to have the garbage taken out or the towels refreshed was an additional $30.00 per day.

Pros: Location is alright, but front desk was very impolite, not cooperative, and unprofessional.

Cons: The water didn't work in the room (shower, toilet and sink), it took a day to repair the water problem. The owner promised to issue a credit for the circumstances, but never followed through on her end. The furniture and amenities were damaged or out of order. Also, the rooms in the hotel belong to AirB&B, what means you can not have new towels or any housekeeping in general. It was my 6th time in Hawaii, and this one was extremely disappointing to pay such a high price for such a poor service!

Pros: If you’re stuck in Kauai without a car this may not be the best spot, but there still is quite bit to offer here. Great beach, nice amenities and overall you’re on a beautiful island.
