9.6 Excellent
Pros: Both Teresa and Estevão, our hosts, were incredibly thoughtful and nice and the farm is incredible to relax, enjoy nature and rest.
Cons: The only thing that Quinta das Lavandas is missing is a kitchen to be used by the guests since it is a 10 minute drive from the village and sometimes you just want to lay down, have a sandwich and relax.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very helpful and kind. Excellent breakfast. Very peaceful surroundings yet close to the town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is secluded and peaceful, with scenic surroundings. Our room was light, spacious and cozy, of course with delicate lavender scent. The hosts were the most impressive “feature” of this place. Teresa and Estêvão, who are also the owners of the farm, were so kind and nice all the time we spent there starting from arrival till the moment of leaving the territory. They reserved a great restaurant for us in the closest village, told us many interesting things about the farm and lavender itself, gave really valuable advices on our further trip. Thank you for that!
Cons: WiFi didn’t work at our room at all, which was a little bit disappointing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were a few hours too early, but got a warm welcome and the room got prepared quickly. The house and everything was explained. We had a nice room wit a balcony. We got some tips for dinner. The little town with the castle is nice for an afternoon walk. Breakfast was superb! After breakfast we drank our coffee on the terrace and ate some figs from the tree in front. Delicious!! Really! Before we left we got the inspiring story of how are host and hostess started the business here. It inspired us on our way to our next stop to dream a little... If you visit... I should ask them about it. Really recommendable to visit. We unfortunately booked only for 1 day. If we ever come in the neigbourhood again, we will return here. PS Do the 1 hour neighbourhood walk (leave at 2nd gate left and then left, left, left and again left at the first gate :-) ! It's beautiful!
Cons: That we had to leave :-(
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very kind and helpful hosts.
Cons: Our only regret was not staying more than one night.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The quietness and the nature around the house The whole setting The pool as it was getting hot The great advice (restaurant) by the owners Great choice for breakfast and partially homemade food
Cons: No own fridge in the room, but there is a central common fridge to deposit your things You need a car to get to restaurants (but we knew that)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location; yes it is a small town so nothing is too far but it was great to be so close to the castle. The accommodation / room itself had a romantic, antique feel to it but bathroom facilities were modern. Loved the heated towel rack in the bathroom. It was great to have dry towels in the morning; they were lush and monogrammed ; very nice touch. The note advising that the water was drinkable- great idea. Sitting area in the lobby had books to browse thru nice idea especially the one that covered the history of Marvao. Breakfast was included and was self serve with plenty of choices. We had a car with us and were able to drive in
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Fantastic staff, clean and comfortable room. Good breakfast and accommodations. The views from the hotel are excellent and Marvão is a gem!! Must see!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the position of this hotel - unbeatable! Right at the top of this charming little walled town, couldn't be closer to the historic old castle and wonderful views. And with a decent parking area in the square, and space to turn.
Cons: Liked everything except that the room and shower, though charmingly furnished and attractive, was a bit tight for two people and a big double bed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Reaching this lovely hotel during a cool blustery late afternoon with rain showers was not an easy task, but well worth the squeeze through narrow cobblestone roads to the parking lot next to the castle of Marvao. Can imagine that this place is a zoo in tourist season, but it we almost had the place to ourselves after dark! Free breakfast comes with a stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room with an amazing view. Large bathtub with handheld shower (no curtain so you have to sit in tub to shower off).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was a fabulous location, breakfast was excellent, the terrace at sunset was fantastic bed really comfortable and lovely and quite will definitely be back
Cons: The spa tub on terrace was not too inviting as it was low on water and cold and a bit dirty

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Casinha is a lovely historic house with a stunning view on the valley right in the center of Marvao. The hosts are a kind and caring couple that provided everything we needed for our stay, we really appreciated it. They also manage a grocery shop nearby where they sell a great selection of wines and local products, we recommend not to miss it. Marvao has been a great surprise, one of the best spot we've been in Portugal: once you get there the silence of the old town, the amazing view and the ancient castle are hard to forget.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large and great house in a wonderful place. Easy communication with the host. Would come back anytime.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old house in an authentic medieval village. The views from the house and pretty much everywhere in the village are amazing. It made me feel like buying a house there and moving there. There seems to be some issue with flying insects in the village but there were none in the house. I couldn't figure out why there were so many insects especially in the cistern in the castle. The house is beautiful and spacious. You just have to be mindful admit heights of some of the doorways. The kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom was sparkling clean. There is free parking right in front of the house. The directions from the host were very helpful for getting to the house (Google map gives wrong directions as you cannot take a car through those roads). Meeting the host was quick and easy at the key pick up location which is only steps away from the house at a shop). The host showed us the house and went over details about how to operate things. We loved our stay.
10.0 Excellent

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location and there are some reserved spots outside for guests. Nice view from our room. Very clean. Good breakfast and they have a restaurant which serves dinner. There is an elevator. Good mattress and it was quiet.
Cons: We are travelling as a couple and have two separate bags. Would be nice if two suitcase racks were provided so one person doesn’t have to use their suitcase on the floor. Pillows were a bit high. Luckily I had a travel pillow with me. Would be nice if they provided a low profile pillow choice as well.

Casa da Silveirinha - Marvão - Bedroom
7
9.2 Excellent (288 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Situated at the top of a huge cliff, the medieval village of Marvão offers visitors a breathtaking and varied landscape stretching from Spain to Serra da Estrela. To paraphrase José Saramago "From Marvão we see the whole earth.". Entering the village through the Portas de Ródão and looking in front on the right, the visitor comes across the Casa da Silveirinha. Framed, on one side, by the fragas that lead to the Castle and, on the other, by the immensity of the surrounding landscape, the House provides to those who rest there the sensation of going back in time and becoming guardian of the entrance in the village.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This little hotel is right behind the castle wall, so while you have to let your car outside it is not too far to walk. We had a family room with en suite bathroom, spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was basic Given the very good room rate it was absolutely OK though.
Cons: the coffee.... really, I don't get it.Why do hotels in countries that are famous for their coffees serve this bitter instant stuff? It's pretty common though, and actually we didn't book to drink coffee, so I didn't mind that much.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved casa da Silveirinha. The lady that welcomed us has been extremely nice and attentive to us, full of gentleness and useful suggestions. She attended to our breakfast as well, and she's been pivotal to making our stay in Marvao a wonderful experience. The check in / check out process has been very easy and quick. The house is spacious, very traditional yet refurbished to high quality and functionality standards, still preserving the cozy and natural feeling. The location is very convenient, within the old town yet easily reachable from out of town and from the parking lot. It is at walking distance to anything, and it offers a superb view of the castle. We spent a lovely night on the terrace, watching at the moon and the other old houses underneath.
Cons: Nothing really! everything was superb! I guess it might be useful to fellow travellers to notice that - as already pointed out in some of the other comments - there are indeed a few steps to reach the house (more like a short ramp of stairs): Marvao is basically an old mountain village and this is how they were made, with narrow streets and sairs connecting houses and passsages. However, I've seen locals drive cars up to the houses, therefore I guess there might be this option as well, in case of need (it is just me inferring this; the best way would probably be to contact the host beforehand about it). definitely though, the car must be parked outstide the old town (but from the parking lot it is really a 2 mins walk to the house).
7.9 Good
Pros: Everything is close by.
Cons: Not easily accessible if you have trouble walking.
7.1 Good
Pros: Perfect location within the old town's walls. Traditional portuguese house with wooden elements. Very clean place with a small garden. Air conditioning in our room. Nice flexible host (we asked for breakfast at 7.30 AM and it was ok for her).
Cons: Don't be confused by description about terrace. There's none. It's only a table with two chairs on the last step of the stairs next to the entrance door. The WiFi is weak on the first floor. Ceiling is pretty low. Breakfast isn't in a form of a buffet table as we got used to it during our whole trip in Portugal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place to stay in the medieval village of Marvao. Nice room and bathroom, all perfectly clean. Cozy garden with a nice view of the village. Excellent breakfast and very friendly host. We really enjoyed to stay here.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lina was an excellent host in every way. The accommodations were pristine, beautifully decorated, and the added touches of fresh bread, cheese, ham, and wine on arrival were a most welcome addition. This was our best stay in Portugal so far and we were delighted!
Cons: Nothing - it couldn't have been more perfect!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary for cooking. we lived on the second floor with an interesting view from the window to the old town. it's always interesting to live in an old house with a history
Cons: made a not very high-quality renovation of the old house, as a result of which sound insulation is very bad, the toilet is separated from the rest of the premises not by a continuous partition, there is no parking in a radius of 100 meters.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I could not be happier how my parents were received, and how much they were happy after their stay! Thank you so much Lina for all your sympathy!
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding accommodation, designed to a very high standard.
Cons: No Wi-Fi or air conditioning but sufficiently cool at night and a 4G is good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If I could give this lovely property a 20/10, I would! This is by far one of the most lovely places that my family and I have ever stayed. The owners are wonderful, personable, and take great care in making sure you have a perfect experience. The Quinta itself was immaculate. I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful and well appointed it is. It was exceptionally clean, decorated beautifully, and was so spacious and comfortable for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids). Everything smelled so beautiful and fresh, the linen and bedding so comfortable and new. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect. If we ever find ourselves in Portugal again I will go out of my way to make sure we stay here again but for longer this time!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing. There was absolutely nothing not to like!

7.0 Good
Pros: Unique place to stay - really well done. Defintely something different to a standard hotel. Enough parking sport right at the location. We loved the living area which invited us to relax and read a book.
Cons: Rooms were functional but simple. Shower was for my taste a bit to small but for what they do out of the place totally understandable. Unfortunately the rooms are very noisy and one guest had a small child/baby with her who cried the whole night. But ofc not the fault of the staff at all. There were no open restaurants in the area and it took as a while to find something which was open (20min carrride). A great place to go if you want to stay somewhere different and experience a night at a old train station.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: not much
Cons: the bungalow apartment was an unfinished DIY project and in need of a thorough good clean with flies dead and alive. the proprietor was very difficult about giving me a reciept for my payment in cash as requested. breakfast was a VERY spartan affair in a scruffy kitchen. we purchased our own for the remaining two days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Housed in an beautifully restored historical train station, this is an absolute gem! The building has so much character, from the architecture to the common areas like the kitchen, restaurant/lounge and terrace. There are only 7 or 8 rooms, so often we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Preparing our own food in a 130-year old kitchen (with modern appliances) felt like a true timewarp. Staff (speaking in broken English) is very friendly. It's the perfect place to switch off and get transported back in history for a few days. Highly recommended.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, very kind and helpful staff. Room was perfect for a night stay. lots of free parking available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! An amazing place to spend a weekend
7.5 Good
Pros: Interesting concept
Cons: Dark room, breakfast could be improved
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This was the second time we stayed here and the owners did an amazing job to restore this old train station. It's a fantastic place to stay and the peace and tranquility around it is very special. To be able to use the kitchen is a bonus as in many places we could not even make a cup of tea or coffee so it was nice to be able to cook a little for a change and make a hot tea on a cold evening in October. The fireplace is great, it makes it a very pleasant stay and we were very happy to be able to use it. We would definitely come back again!
Cons: Though the building is beautiful and very comfortable it can feel a little impersonal as no one is living there, despite the kind lady who was waiting for us at arrival. After 6 there is no staff so you are on your own. We had been before so we liked to have the whole place for ourselves however it felt a little impersonal at the same time though it is also understandable one cannot live and be there full time. You need a car, especially on a cold week in October when many places are closed already.

Quinta do Marvao touches your heart and your soul. The room and all the areas are wonderfully decorated, comfortable and clean. The pool is beautiful and the view is breathtaking! We were lucky to meet the charming owner, Irene. Thank you for your warm welcome, for being so kind and caring and for such an interesting conversation we had!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic stay! Amazing spot, beautiful location, comfortable and relaxing, everything great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We loved the location and the views! The hammocks were great and there was a very cute friendly cat that came around and visited us. The breakfast was delicious - warm and freshly baked! The host was more than accommodating and helpful in connecting us with a taxi service as we didn't have access to a rental car and took an uber here.
Cons: We didn't get breakfast on our last morning : ( I was really looking forward to the amazing croissants! There was no signage so it was a little hard to find, and we had some guests come to our porch the second night which alarmed us - I think they were also looking to find their way.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly magical place, unique, so romantic, comfortable and beautiful ! We loved every little detail! We left completely rejuvenated with this unforgettable stay. Everything just magical! Beautiful country house with the most incredible views, so romantic and comfortable!
7.9 Good
Pros: Amazing location, really relaxing. The staff was really helpful, constantly giving us tips and helpful insights about the best restaurants and places to visit. The room has an amazing balcony in which we relaxed and enjoyed the amazing silence and peace. Great place!
Cons: The room was good but not worth the price. It was quite cold during the first night and no warming device was provided. And also de AC was broken. The next day it was fixed. And on the last day we wanted to cook some food at the apartment but the grill was also not working. So we had to wait a while until someone brought us a new one. The owner apologized and everything was, still if I payed a little less I would have accepted these “problems” in a more understanding way. There were also some bugs in the room like spiders and mosquitos
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place for a weekend getaway in the quiet heart of nature. Alls rooms were confortable, charmingly decorated and the homemade breakfast was delicious. Irene&Jorge were excellent hosts providing for anything we would need to render our stay even more enjoyable. We hope to be back soon!
6.0 Good
Pros: Certainly different! A restored ruin apparently miles from anywhere. Priced with hotels it can't compete with for facilities but which can't compare for the experience. Rustic outside; unexpected inside. Walkers and lovers could stay until exhausted! Very nice personalised breakfast prepared to order.
Cons: Despite emailed directions, get there in daylight!
7.0 Good
Pros: Relaxing environment, nice breakfast, peaceful view (studio apartment)
Cons: Administrative procedures (check in/out)
5.7 Okay
Pros: Off the beaten track and very rural with lovely view across countryside. Welcoming glass of wine on arrival and Jorge and Irene were friendly unobtrusive hosts. We stayed in the studio which had everything we needed for our one night stopover. Breakfast (taken in the main house) was excellent with fresh rolls, jams, ham and cheese. Knowing we had a long drive ahead, Jorge kindly let us make up rolls for our picnic lunch!

Pros: The hospitality and welcome received for us and for our little dog was wonderful. The position in the hills of the Valle de Radao was delightful, surrounded by rolling hills and unspoilt countryside. A great place for walking and exploring, with local cuisine available in the nearby village to a good standard. We would love to visit again.
Cons: Not easy to find, perseverence required but well worth the effort!!
7.0 Good
Pros: The Hospitality of the owners, the quiet of the surroundings, the gorgeous view of the serra de São Mamede.

Pros: The location was great
Cons: Wifi access wasn't consistent. Beds were comfortable but squeaky. We had two rooms - both had problems with showers. The 'rain shower' attachment in one didn't work properly while the attachment for the other shower head in the same bathroom wouldn't go higher than your belly button; the shower head in the second bathroom didn't fit the attachment at all

Cons: Needs upgrading but the owner told us it will soon suffer a complete remodelation.
