Always drive on the right side of the road. Because the roadways are all "single-carriageway" or undivided highways, there will be no confusion. Never pass slow-moving vehicles, as it is strictly forbidden. When driving at night, use your headlights with caution. Because most of Palau's roads and highways are unpaved, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, ideally with a manual transmission, is recommended. When driving around Palau village, choosing the manual transmission can save you a large amount of gas.

Here you can purchase a gallon of gasoline for around $5.06 USD, with rates per liter coming to roughly $1.34 USD. Most gas stations are located on the island of Koror, and there are only a handful available on the larger northern island of Babelthuap, so if you venture out to this region, be sure to fill up beforehand.
Driving around the island of Palau is the only way to realistically to get around, and drivers tend to have a laid-back style to driving, taking on the unpaved roads at relaxed speeds. Due to the size of the island as well as the quality of the roads, the speed limit is a consistent 40 km/h (25 mph) all over the region, though you’ll find some local drivers exceeding this speed; the quality and condition of various roads don’t allow you to drive much faster.
