The price at the time of booking and the price we payed when we picked up the car increased of 400%. They forced us to take the mandatory insurance (that was not specified when I booked). Then when we brought the car back, they checked it without us being there, and there was a little scratch that apparently wasn't there before, and they made us pay 400€ for this, although they will probably never paint it as it almost under the car and no one sees it. Terrible service, terrible company, will never go with them again.

The lady at the desk at CLT airport treated me badly. She went from bubbles and buddies with the two previous clients. I think it was their ethnicity versus mine. I was promised and paid for an SUV and was put in a compact. She said none were available then back peddled and said I would have to wait if I wanted a larger car. When I got to the deck there were several SUV’s parked around me. I am a 300 lb Chinese American. I attempted to be pleasant and engage in a friendly manner and she never smiled. I did NOT get what I paid for and her service was awful. She treated the two black people before me totally different than I was treated. If you trace cameras back you can confirm this by her mannerisms and body language.

Hidden costs and no mention anywhere in t&c about excess being $5900 which meant we had to buy insurance with dollar (ours only covered $5k excess). Ended up costing more than 2x “total”.

Overall we were satisfied, would be great if we did not have to catch a shuttle though! Would make the overall experience even better and faster if the vehicle was available from the airport itself. Staff were super friendly and the car was great - thanks!

The actual car and process was a great experience. However, I have an issue with Ace Car Rentals overall. When I picked up my vehicle in Christchurch, I provided my Credit Card for a holding deposit, and to pay for an additional driver. This was the ONLY place that I used my Credit in Christchurch. However the next day I noticed 3 transactions on my Credit Card by UBER Eats Christchurch (totalling AUD $228.98), all processed at 3.47am the next morning. As I said, this was the ONLY place that my Credit Card was used in Christchurch. Therefore I can only assume that... a) The staff member who processed my pickup (and knew that I was from Australia, and that the car would be dropped off hundreds of kilometres away), used, or passed on my Card information to someone else, or... b) Someone was able to access ACE Rental systems. Based on this experience, I would be reluctant to recommend ACE Car Rentals to my family or friends.

Great people but beware the hidden costs. Cheapest daily rental but you make up for it with extra fees for out of hours drop off, tolls, reduction in bond etc. Not clear when booking.
