Pros: Charming. The 93 yo owner has been running the place for other years. After I mentioned where we were from, he remembered us from a year ago. There's real KEYS made of metal, not a card to swipe. Nothing fancy. Rooms were large. Some rooms have a nice view - the entire front wall is windows. (up on the hill, facing downhill) Cons: Very basic. Dated. There are 2 very different types of rooms (older & newer). No elevators, but all rooms are technically accessible. Minimal breakfast.
A delightful stay, good bang for your buck Pros: Very clean and comfortable, you get a nice mini fridge, microwave, and TV in your room! The bed was comfy, the staff was nice, the breakfast was good. Cons: Not a lot immediately around the Inn, but with a car that's no big deal given the great price.
Pros: Curb appeal. Loved the neon signsCons: Could be a little bit updated though I love the look
Pros: Price, convenience, friendly staff (I believe it’s still family owned)Cons: One night there was noise outside my room (people talking, running, shouting) for several hours, but it finally calmed down around 1 am. Room was clean and had microwave and fridge, so great for the price, but everything looked pretty old.
Think twice. Pros: The pool looked clean and it has a rustic look. Cons: The majority of guests seem to be alcoholics and addicts. The parking lot was littered with syringe caps and the others guests appear to be homeless. Management does nothing to quell all night partying and excessive noise. Both rooms had fleas and we were all bitten in our sleep many times leaving large itchy welts. The air conditioning only worked on high in both rooms, and in the middle of the night you could see your breath. The smoke detector in one room had been removed and was laying on a shelf in the closet area. The free wifi did not work most of the time. If you could get it to connect it would only last a minute or so before it became so slow you couldn't even check your email. This property has not been updated at all in the last 20 years by our estimation. The carpet in the room was frayed and heavily stained. The blankets on the beds did not match from bed to bed and had the trim torn loose and hanging off. Upon arrival we noticed that the bathroom window was slightly opened. We opened it to look outside and found there were several box type bee hives directly below the window. We quickly closed it and miraculously got it to lock shut (the mechanism was broken), but not before several bees had made it into the room. This place is like something out of a horror movie. You only get one metal key per room. Overall I would rate this as possibly the worst motel I've ever stayed at.
centrally located Pros: I enjoyed talking to the 92 year old man that checked me in.Cons: I suggest they get new blankets and pillows. The mattress was a little lumpy too.
Nice hotel with huge kayak screwupPros: Deep pool, quaint rooms, family owned, beds comfy, old fashioned. Cons: Security chain missing off door, kayak is $30 more than calling the hotel and booking. Kayak also never sent the reservation and I almost didn't get a room.
Retro (older) but comfortable Pros: Older facility but maintained
Located on main road for easy access
Modest breakfast that has fresh fruitCons: Bathroom and decor a bit dated
No shampoo provided (bring your own)
Pros: The location was good, convenient to downtown and the mountains. The owner, the front office staff and the guard were very friendly; the breakfast was good, with good choice of fresh fruits, breads, donuts, fresh orange juice. The back rooms are quiet and large, good for a family of four. The Inn is itself slightly removed from the road, creating a nice space. We did not use the pool, but it looked inviting.Cons: The room service, however, was unsatisfactory (once they did not even show up), and the room itself was not really clean when we arrived. Especially the shelf on top of the clothes rack was extremely dirty. We were told they are looking into improving this aspect of the Mountaineer Inn, and I sure hope they will because, otherwise, we would have had a fully satisfactory experience
They need a blow dryerPros: The flat screen tv Cons: The rugs
Backwoods charmPros: The location was great. They have kind of a gimmicky decor (the sign advertised "good vittles" and a "cement pond") but were clean and very helpful. Cons: The power outlets in our room didn't work! The beds were a little lumpy.
Good dealPros: Was almost in the downtown area which was a good deal for us. Good over deal on a budget plan.
