Pros: It is a small office near the Courtyard Marriott. One can return the car after 6 pm to the Marriott. No lines of people like at LAX.

Cons: The reservation went through carrentals.com who made the wed-Sunday rental with a hertz location that is not open on Sunday. Tehran I went to pick up the car I was informed I'd have to pay for an additional day. They said they could not refund me because I had made the reservation through a third party and had pre-paid. I didn't pick up the car (made other plans) thinking surely carrentals.com would see their error and refund me. My assumption was wrong. Pathetic. Fortunately a call to hertz resolved the issue. Thanks hertz for making it right.

Worst car rental company
Cons: I never got a car! And Hertz never called me back! I had to take a $200 Uber to get to my desntation. I tried to rent for another Hertz, no car there either!

Pros: The price and car was great, the desk agent was able to change our drop-off to the Airport since we would be returning when the downtown office would be closed. It cost us an additional $47 to change the drop-off to the airport but was better that the full price of another days rental.
Cons: We should not have been able to create our reservation as it was accepted since the downtown office was closed for our scheduled return time and it would have cost us an additional day in fees to do so.

Cons: There was poor communication about the facility being closed in the drop off day so had to pay extra to drop off at the airport. This was very frustrating since I hadn't budgeted for added expense.

Sucks at organization
Pros: The car was clean and the worker helped us when she could. We ended up getting what we needed, but not without quite the run around before hand.
Cons: THe first car rental facility we were going to never told us they were closing before our pick up time, and when I called to confirm the pick up after they told me they were closed, they let me know they didn't have a car. We were on our way to the facility and had to go back to the airport and try our luck there. We ended up getting the price we originally agreed on and a car from a different hertz, but not without a lot of talking to people on the hertz 800 number and waiting on hold. I think the hertz company needs to reevaluate some policies and work better to inform their customers before I will rent from them again.

Don't use Debit!
Cons: Debit card charged. Credit checked and credit score impacted. Did not receive rental. Waste of my time. Kayak shouldn't accept this.

Waited at Hertz for 2.5 hours
Pros: We got an Altima when we paid for a Versa. Still not worth the 2.5 hour delay considering this was a vacation, and we wasted a precious morning at a Hertz office.
Cons: Car we were supposed to have had an expiring registration so we had to sit in the office from 8am-10:30am waiting for another vehicle. Unacceptable. I will never use Hertz again. Avis/Alamo, etc. will be glad to take my biz.

poor communication on the part of you and the rental company because they are not even open on the drop off date so they were trying to charge me for an additional day. you need to communicate with them properly because your customers shouldn't leave the facility feeling as they've just been ripped off. i prepaid and was told there were going to be additional charges. i'll never use you again for anything.
Pros: LGB is a very easy airport at which to pick up and drop off a rental vehicle. BUDGET falls into this category also.
Cons: On dropping off the car, I asked if the road tolls device available in the car would be charged by Budget or separately (and if separately, by whom?) and I was not given a satisfactory answer.
I live abroad and cannot spend time contacting the road toll services website as I was advised to do by the Budget representative at Drop Off.

Drove an Ashtray for 4 Days
Pros: The car had good fuel economy.
Cons: I've never had such a disgusting and unpleasant driving experience.
The vehicle I drove smelled like an unkempt motel ashtray.
Ironically, the window sticker indicated that smoking was strictly prohibited in the vehicle and violations are subject to $250 fine.
I cannot imagine how many packs of cigarettes must have been burnt through to completely infuse the odor of disgusting, acrid second-hand smoke into every surface of the car.
Drivers wheel left my hands smelling like I spent the day playing with cigarette butts.

Cons: Lots of additional fees added up to way more than expected, in the end it totalled way way more than the advertised rate. Def wasn't for those on a budget. They automatically charged me for a full tank when I brought it back with a bit more than half a tank and I had to bring it to their attention and ask for a refund. Had I not gone into the office because the person in the lot's machine was broken, I would have been overcharged. I also had to double check the bill. Felt like an attempt to squeeze even more out of me.

Smooth ride at LBC
Pros: Charged me less than expected (for one day and one hour, instead of two days), very clean car with nearly invisible paint damage already flagged on my form. Easy drop-off. Nice staff at the counter. Extremely convenient location at LBC.

Unaccommodating for baby transport under 2 yrs old
Cons: We ordered a car-seat. None of the ones they had were operable for a child under 2 years old (i.e. rear facing); our child is 17 months. If we were around town, we would have just faced it forward, but we were trying to drive from LGB Airport to Sherman Oaks to visit family, and it's not worth the risk on the highway to have the seat installed improperly.
Budget wouldn't help in any way to try to figure out how to put it in properly, so we wasted over an hour trying to install it properly, and again, no sign of help at all... we finally just returned the car, and had to cancel the road trip portion of the visit - we were going to drive and visit my daughters great-grand-aunt who is 90 years old, and may not be around much longer; needless to say, she was heartbroken to hear we weren't coming to visit.
Pros: Returning the car was smooth and fast. The staff were friendly and professional.
Cons: I arrived late to pick up my rental and the car I had reserved had been given away. I called the rental car company exactly 1 hour after the pick up time I had put into my reservation. The car had been given away already and all that was left was a mini-van. Then I was forced to drive something much bigger that had much worse gas mileage. I spent double on gas than I would have had I been given the car that I reserved. When I asked why they gave the car away they said they usually have a 1 hour grace period...but I called at 1 hour and they had already given the car away. I will not reserve with this company again without knowing that they can give the car you reserved away if they feel like it.

Pickup Fail, Staff Rude, Hidden Charges SHAM!
Pros: The car itself was clean and comfortable; congrats on doing the bare-minimum.
Cons: My flight was delayed a few hours, which is not uncommon right? I called with the intention of letting them know I would be there at 5pm instead of 2pm, but there was no answer. I figured, I'll just arrive late, after all 5 isn't that late for an airport car rental business. I arrived at Long Beach airport, and asked around and no one had heard of Ace/Allied. There were lots of other car rentals onsite that I could have rented from, but I decided to call the business number for a pick-up shuttle, and luckily someone answered and said the shuttle would be there shortly. It was not. I called 3 more times, about every 20 minutes, and each time, they said they were on their way. After an hour of waiting, I took a taxi to the offsite rental office, which was a 5 minute drive (20 min walk, just past the point of being too far to walk on a hot day with luggage). I arrived as the woman (Erin) was waking out the door. I said, I'm here to pick-up my car. She gave me the worst look and said "We're closed." Shocked, I asked what time they close. "6:00" I look at my watch and said, "It's 6:04." I went on to tell her the only reason I was even late was because I've been waiting an hour for the pick-up shuttle that never materialized. She proceeded to give me a ton of attitude; apparently the business number rings their central location and the people there didn't call her to let her know... which she blamed ME for. Eventually, she agreed to give me the car (I had already paid for), but not without complaining that she would "have to start all the computers again" with a huff, and that she was "doing me a favor by even renting me the car." There were lots of fees not included in the price paid online, so what I had thought was the cheaper option actually ended up costing hundreds more, and was in no way worth the trouble, considering the terrible experience I had with Erin. Save your money and your sanity, and rent from one the of the onsite companies like Enterprise or Budget. I've used them before and they are fantastic. Erin actually left me in tears because she was so mean, which has never happened to me in a customer experience.

I never got my car.
Cons: The Kayak site said there was a shuttle from LGB airport to this Enterprise location. There wasn't. They wanted me to take a cab to the company whose tagline is, "We'll pick you up." Instead, I called them and they transferred my reservation to the Enterprise location at the LGB airport. They promised me the rate would be the same. Unfortunately, they then tripled the cost of my reservation. I walked 10 feet over to the Alamo counter and they gave me a car for my original rate. I'll never use Enterprise again.

Read the fine print
Pros: Our car was clean and was a great price.
Cons: They've recently changed their policy so you cannot secure your vehicle with a credit card and pay cash. Several people in front of us in line had the same issue. The employee working the counter was extremely rude about the change. In his defense, I'm sure he was probably getting yelled at often; but he was extremely unprofessional. As he told me several times, I should have read the fine print, so I'm passing that advice into you now.

Beware of prepaying for gas
Pros: Friendly staff, relatively quick service.
Cons: I prepaid for a tank of gas and was told that I'd get the difference back at dropoff, but instead I was billed the full amount and was told that the transaction couldn't be modified.

I've never had to wait that for a rental vehicle .
Pros: The vehicle was spacious and clean, but there were a few things in the door compartments.
Cons: At 2:16PM I scheduled pick up of the vehicle for 3:00P. Usually it take me a while to gather my luggage and belongings before picking up the vehicle.
When I showed up to pick up the vehicle the person asked me to wait 20 minutes in hopes that a smaller vehicle would return. I asked if there was another vehicle I could use instead of having to wait, he said let's give it 20 minutes and we will go from there.
Traveling often I have never had a rental company ask me to wait so long for a vehicle rental. Also, when I asked about drop off locations near my hotel the person at the counter could not give me proper directions.

Cons: I received a confirmation phone call the day before travel and spoke with a gentleman at the rental location and gave him my flight information and confirmed that I would be there. He told me there was no airport shuttle and to take an Uber. My flight was on time and I jumped in an Uber and arrived at my rental location at 12:05 (my pick up was at 12:00). The doors to the office were locked and the security guard came over to let me know that it was closed. The location was closed, the guy left early and woull not be back. Now I was stranded in the middle of Santa Anna with my bags after traveling 10+ hours across the country. I contacted Avis customer service and was told that they could not help me because the location was closed and there were no other cars in orange county. The only option was to take an Uber to the Long Beach airport to pick up a car. He offered to give me my same rate. Ha, what a joke! That's all you're going to do for me is guarantee the same rate but I have to take an Uber to another airport? Are you kidding me? Totally unacceptable and horrendous customer service. Needless to say, I was stranded because it was memorial day weekend and there were no cars available with any company. This ruined my trip before it could even get started. Nice work avis.

Kayak vs Alamo misalignment; huge truck vs low end
Pros: The manager found us a vehicle to take so we were able to leave the airport.
Cons: We requested a standard sedan; we were told that even though we booked it before we arrived, none were available. We had to take the only feasible vehicle: a huge Ram pickup truck with no trunk or covered storage. We had to wait for a truck to be found and brought up. Thankfully it was not raining on our luggage in the truck bed. We were then told we could exchange the vehicle the next day for the car we wanted, at Santa Ana.

"I'll be back"
Pros: When I dropped off the car, I told the attendant, "I'll be back. I like you guys", and she laughed out loud. Got exactly the car I wanted, there were no mechanical or other issues, it went very smoothly.
Cons: There was some refuse in the car that the people who cleaned it from the previous renters, but it did not spoil the experience.

Excellent clean large vehicle- quick pick up and drop off!
Pros: Easy airport access, fast check out with prepaid rental agreement. Fast check in when car was returned, both people were friendly and helpful.
Cons: Didn't know about all the toll roads in Orange County, wasn't sure how to pay them without toll booths anywhere- had to call Alamo and ask about them as we had already followed our GPS on the phones and used them multiple times that first day- would have preferred to know about them before hand.
