Eurocar on the cheapEasy pick up and drop off at the airport.Car was dented and missing the right front hubcap. Probably should have upgraded to a nicer car but I have never been given a car in such poor condition before. Also had to pay Eurocar to clean the car??? Never had to do that before.

Car hire excess insurance in Noumea

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Theft Protection Waiver

Collision damage waiver and theft protection are insurance options that cover renters from paying high penalty fees if the car is stolen or returned damaged. Some Noumea car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the rental price but not all of them. We recommend always be aware of your coverage when renting a car in in Noumea.

Deductible

Keep in mind that car hire excess insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your rental. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a no-deductible option to your Noumea car rental.

Top tips for hiring a car in Noumea

  • Ideal for sightseeing, hiring a car in Noumea lets you pack everything you’ll need for a long day without the worry of carrying it from one attraction to the next. There are also plenty of hills in Noumea and getting to lookouts, such as Ouen Toro, is tiring without a hire car. It’s possible to drive to Tjibaou Cultural Centre in 15min from the centre of town, though a connection of buses usually require around 40min. Coastal attractions, including Des Lagons and Plage de l'Anse Vata, are best reached by car, as buses stop far away from the water.

The vehicles are only a short walk from the offices and no shuttle bus is needed to pick up your vehicle. A hire car will help save money on a long shuttle to Noumea, which is priced at roughly ₣ 3.000 (A$ 41). Sixt offers a meet and greet service at the smaller Nouméa Magenta Airport (GEA) with transfer to their off-site branch, while Point Rogue and Europcar have reception desks in the airport terminal.
  • The CBD of Noumea is designed with many one-way streets, meaning it’s wise to use GPS navigation to avoid getting lost. Roads in the city centre are well kept and smooth; however, once you start travelling to more rural locations, you’ll need to keep an eye out for potholes. There are many roundabouts throughout Noumea and you should approach them with caution and indicate when exiting or entering. New Caledonia roads are right-hand drive and it’s best to take it slowly if you are unfamiliar driving on that side.
