Barkston Rooms Earl's Court

I liked the hostel being in a old big house. its value for money.

The beds are cheap it had a hollow in the mattress due to the substructure been bend.

The pictures do not show the real quality of the room. Walls were pealing and dirty, floors were not clean, the bathroom facilities were cramped and gross, beds were horribly quality with springs poking you, and the staff was not service oriented or very friendly. Very disappointed in this location. After talking with some people in London we came to find out that our experience is not normal with hostels, most of the time they are better kept. This was pretty bad. Don’t trust the pictures you see in their ads, they aren’t what you will get.

The location is great, very close to Earls Court tube Station but still in a quiet street.

Where to start? I came in early and knew the room wouldn't be available. Luggage room was 3£, and I asked to pay it by maestro - they deducted it from my credit card instead (I didn't have the card with me!) When I came back in the evening, it turned out they had given me, a middle-aged asthma patient, a room on the 3rd floor, with no lift to get there and carpet on the floor. The bed was one half of a bunk bed, meaning there was a hole in top each of the 4 corners, serving as a dust collector. Moreover it creaked loudly each time you moved. I had payed for breakfast, but still each morning the person at reception desk had to look really hard to find this on the computer before she could give me a hand-written card for breakfast. Since it was the same person both mornings, at least the second time she should have known. I did notice however she preferred to play on her smartphone and let her colleague do most of the work when that was possible. Breakfast was minimal: instant coffee, tea, spongy bread, marmalade and on Sunday a slice of cheddar. Not worth the 4.5£ they asked; there are bars outside Earls Court where you can have a full English breakfast for not much more.
