Known as one of the best places to visit solo as a female traveller, Singapore is a bustling cosmopolitan city with plenty to do. They are strict with rules (flower picking and gum-chewing are both banned), but this means you can feel safe. However, you should acquaint yourselves with the rules before going.
With friendly locals who speak impeccable English, amazing nature-based activities and low crime rates, Iceland is a great solo travel destination where you’ll be spoiled for choice for selfie backdrops.
Tokyo
Despite its intimidatingly large size and density, Tokyo is a great place to travel solo where crime is low and there’s so much to do, the next activity is always around the corner. Public transport in the city (and local trains) will get you most places you want to go, and it’s worth going to Shinjuku Station – the busiest in the world – just for the experience.
Dublin
Ireland’s capital is incredibly picturesque, with city streets that tell the story of a rich culture and history at every turn. But let’s be honest, the biggest draw to the city has to be its people and the nightlife – you’ll never feel lonely. Pick a pub, order a Guiness, sit back and enjoy the craic.
Lisbon
Lisbon is one of those cities that you can visit time and time again and still find little corners of delight, as neighbourhoods evolve and new shops, bars and restaurants pop. It’s an easy place to explore on foot too. After an earthquake in the mid 18th century destroyed much of the medieval centre, it was rebuilt with a grid-like pattern that makes the city centre very easy to navigate.
Travelling to Copenhagen solo means you won’t have to worry about sharing all of the delicious pastries, coffee, farm-to-fork meals and craft beer you’re going to consume. The city is the perfect size to wander around by foot or on two wheels, and the perfect mix of old-European opulence and quirky contemporary design.
Known for 24-hour restaurants, late-night bars and entertainment, Seoul is a city that never sleeps. Each neighbourhood has a distinct feel, and hostels are abundant. Insadong is an artsy neighbourhood full of galleries, teahouses and boutique shops, perfect for souvenir-hunting, Gangnam is a flashy and modern spot, while Hongdae is the district where the cool university kids hang out and enjoy cheap and cheerful meals.
Sydney
There are many tours and activities you can book in Sydney – food and brewery tours, a street art tour of Newtown, rooftop bus trips – or just wander around the city and see where the fun takes you! You’ll meet plenty of other solo travellers staying in hostels, and there are plenty of beaches and hiking areas to explore beyond the urban core.
Amsterdam
The walkable and bikeable Dutch capital is possibly one of the best solo travel destinations ever, whether you’re after a party, looking to make new friends, or on a soul-searching mission. You’ll find an abundance of traveller-friendly accommodation, bike tours, beer tours (and beer tours by bike!), and locals are open-minded and friendly.
Kuala Lumpur
The Malaysian capital celebrates its modernism while honouring its traditional heritage, inviting travellers to explore its glistening waterfronts, eclectic markets and surrounding scenery. It’s a big city, so travel solo and make the most of your time there!
