Top tips for hiring a car at Berlin Brandenburg airport

  • When you get a car hire at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), you will enjoy greater flexibility travelling to the city centre and further afield. This is because you can go straight to your destination, rather than having to wait for public transport and potentially having to transfer along the way. For example, if you wanted to go to Beelitz from the airport, you could drive there in about 40min, whereas the same journey via public transport not only takes approximately 1h 30min, but you’ll also have to change from the X7 bus to the RE7 train along the way.
  • The airport has a wide selection of car hire agencies for you to choose from, such as SIXT, National and Avis, so it will be easy for you to find your ideal vehicle. If you were hiring a car with SIXT, you can find their office in Terminal 1 Arrivals 2 of the airport. Once you’ve completed the documents you need to fill out, you will then be taken to your vehicle in the car park.
  • When you need to drop off your car hire at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, you will find it well signposted. You can follow the 113 motorway out of Berlin until you reach Junction 8, where you will turn off to Schoenefelder Allee. This road will take you to the airport, where you’ll see the ‘Rental Car Return’ signs. SIXT is located in Parking House P4.
  • Most of the Berlin Brandenburg Airport car hire companies offer a comprehensive service, so you will be able to pick up and return your vehicle at your own convenience. For example, SIXT is generally open from 10:00 to 18:30 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and 08:00 to 16:30 the rest of the days. If you need to return your vehicle outside of this time, then you can return your car to the parking bay issued by your provider and then drop the key in the safe box.
  • 25% of our users found a car hire at Berlin Brandenburg airport for $52 or less

FAQs about hiring a car at Berlin Brandenburg airport

  • What documents are needed to get a car hire at this airport?

You must be 21 years of age to hire a car at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. There is also other documentation that you’ll need. A valid driver’s licence is a must, as is a valid ID. You can pay with all major credit cards, but they must be in the lead driver’s name. Debit cards can sometimes be used, but you need to pay a deposit beforehand.

  • What are some important road laws in Germany?

It’s important to follow the rules of the road when departing from the airport in your hire car. You must wear a seat belt for the whole journey when you’re in a car in Germany, whilst those under 12 years of age or who are smaller than 150 cm need to go in a children's seat. You can use your phone in the car but it must be on an entirely hands-free system. Drink driving is prohibited, and anyone found to have more than 0.05% of alcohol in their system will be prosecuted accordingly. On motorways, you can generally drive as fast as 130 km/h; on rural roads, it’s usually 100 km/h, whilst in an urban setting, you can’t normally drive faster than 50 km/h. In Germany, you must also drive on the right-hand side of the road.

  • What environmentally friendly options are there for car hire from Berlin Airport?

If you want a car hire at Berlin Brandenburg Airport that’s more environmentally friendly, there are plenty of options. Choose a hybrid car, such as a Hyundai Ioniq from National; it’s more fuel efficient than normal cars, so it releases fewer carbon emissions when you drive. Alternatively, opt for an electric vehicle, which doesn’t run on petrol and is better for air quality.

  • How much does it cost to hire a car at Berlin Brandenburg airport?

On average a car hire at Berlin Brandenburg airport costs $53 per day.

The car I reserved online was supposedly unavailable and I was forced to upgrade at a rate 2x the original quote. Not happy with Alamo and will definitely not be returning and I warn future customers to choose alternate rental companies.

We had a reservation for 2 cars week's in advance and still there were no car's for us waiting.....After 2 hours of begging 😢 we somehow got the car's. Sorry but that's unacceptable 😔 if I run my business that way I would be hungry. I saw there people waiting four five hours for the car 🚗...Not a way to do business.....I will reconsider if I want to go through this again really not a good experience. Kind regards from sunny Opatija 🌞

Car class reserved not available. Wait estimated at 1h. Class above immediately available but was asked to pay an upgrade! Took a lower class (no refund there...). Was informed that any breakdown would cost me 290$ for intervention, after I mentioned I was using my credit card insurance. And funnigly, the car I was given had a permanent hand brake alarm problem despite hand brake unlocked. this at pick up, but i didn't have time anymore to exchange. Gd thing I did only a small number of km.... Not a good experience this time. thks best Sylvain

KAYAK
Bad. After the return of the vehicle they unfairly overcharged me in several ways. Firstly, 4 days of insurance for a 3 day rental. Secondly, a "Premium Station Surcharge" for returning the car exactly where it was planned and known from the beginning (this charge was not mentioned before). Thirdly, a "Fuel Charge" when I just refilled the car before returning it. The person responsible for the return and for checking the car told me that I could go because everything is OK. No one informed of any issue (as fuel, for example). Then they sneakily send an invoice via email with several surcharges, hoping that you don´t notice and complain.

Car very clean. Downgrade from what was promised since Enterprise has an unwritten and unadvertised policy for not renting German car brands out to countries east of Germany despite being in Schengen zone of European Union. PHEV drivertrain was great but unable to charge since the cable provided is compatible with home outlets not the street chargers.

There are a lot of hidden fees and taxes that nobody explains when booking. My booking was made for a total of 106€ and I ended up paying 219€ plus a 250€ deposit that I am not sure when I will get back.
