Pros: It was in Italy, and we love Italy, so that’s always going to make you forget about some of the conveniences you’re used to. The breakfast atmosphere was nice, and like everywhere in Italy, the coffee was amazing. Dinner was very expensive at the hotel, but just down the street in walking distance there are some great local places. And then obviously in Florence, the food is unmatched...and restraints for days...and many of them are extremely affordable.
Cons: The hotel is all on one A/C & Heating system, that it’s either every room has heat, or every room has A/C. We did not know this going in, and it ended up being a warmer Spring, however still not warm enough for them to convert all the rooms over to A/C. So we had to open windows, which have no screens, therefore the flying bugs came to stay in our room as well (without paying mind you) and needless to say, we slept with insect repellent every night. Which is not an aphrodisiac. The rooms are closest related to say a Ramada Inn or an older Holiday Inn in the States. Finally, some of the reviews we read said that downtown Florence was walking distance...it is not walking distance, it would take a solid 45min or so to just get into the town walking, then you walk everywhere in the town all ready. My wife and I are in great shape and don’t mind walking, but we rented a car to drive into Florence, then parked and walked from there. Even if you like walking it would be a big time vacuum from being able to enjoy the town. Again, though, it’s Italy! The beauty and romance of the city can tend to distract from the little consciences one might be used to coming from America. So if you’re on a budget, but want to be closer to downtown Florence, then this is a decent choice. As long as you know it’s a solid 2.5-3 star hotel and nothing more, and go during a time that the hotel offers A/C, then you’ll prob enjoy it more than we did.
