The biggest problem booking through Kayak was that even though my car reservation was “confirmed”, when I got to the Hertz desk they said that it is a third party app so they did not have that reservation and only had a more expensive car to offer me for those dates. Because we were on a tight schedule, we couldn’t shop around last minute and ultimately had to take the more expensive car. Bad experience booking through Kayak and ultimately blame Hertz for also allowing themselves to be listed on third party websites without this guarantee.

Very significant hidden on costs at pickup, including extra charges for airport locations for pickup and drop off and additional charge for one way travel. All of these details were know at time of booking and costs should have been clear. I would not have used service if I was aware of these.

They are pure scammers! You come to the place on time, thinking you booked, but they play a game that you came late and that no more cars are available. And the only car they have will be 300 pounds a day. Pure scammers. Avoid!

Awful. Did not honor the voucher from Kayak/VIPCars, wanted to charge an extra $40 for mileage, and then said I was late so would be an additional $95 to “upgrade”, even though I said I would take a smaller car. This for a 3-day rental, so more than doubling the cost. I went back to the airport and rented direct from Enterprise. Beware using small companies and third party agencies to rent cars!

Upon arrival I was informed that as we arrived one hour after our scheduled pickup they no longer had a vehicle for us and wanted to charge us a high fee for a much larger vehicle. It took over 30 minutes before they decided to give us a small car as we had ordered and during this time four other people coming into the office received the same treatment. In the end I was charged 120GBP additional fees for a similar vehicle. I will never recommend Kayak or Drivalia and I will use Enterprise directly as I have done for years and.

We had a terrible experience with Alamo and likely will not be giving our business to Alamo again. The pickup process and the staff in Rome was fantastic, but the drop off process in Florence was a nightmare! When we drove into Florence, we arrived at the address we were provided both by the Alamo staff in Rome and in our rental agreement. The office was in a terrible location and was not open despite arriving during listed business hours. Since the office was closed, we had to take the rental car to our hotel and pay to valet park it overnight. When we went to return the rental car at the listed opening time the next morning, we waited in a line at the provided address, only to get to the front and be immediately directed to a parking garage that was NOT listed on the rental return agreement without the staff doing anything to acknowledge and process the return. We were provided unclear instructions on where the return garage was that did not take into account current road closures. Due to needlessly waiting in line at the return location provided by Alamo in the rental agreement, the return process not being initiated in the system upon our arrival at the provided location, and the delay in finding the return garage, we arrived at the garage 15 minutes after our return time and charged for an entire extra day. Had we had clear instructions on where to return the vehicle, we would have had a much better experience.

The price I received was $428 with full coverage/ insurance. When I arrived at airport avis desk, she insisted that it was not included full insurance and I was forced to pay around $1000 !

The attendant at Rome airport insisted that I purchase extra coverage which more than doubled the cost of the rental. I was quoted $1300 and the cost was over $2600. We asked how we can lower the cost and only purchase what was required and she said the $2600 was the lowest prices in order to cover the mandatory charges. When we dropped off in Bari the attendant said that we did not have to purchase many of the things we were charged for. We did not sign the receipt at drop off and he told us to dispute the charges.

Turned out that I rented a car that was too small for all the luggage that we had and they gave me a free upgrade although it wasn’t clean but that was OK. Drop off they had someone help us with our luggage and we were able to get to the airport with their shuttle right away. He was very helpful and friendly.

Shuttle from the airport to Europcar and back was ok. The car was dirty and full of sand inside, the tires were pretty flat from the start. You have to take your own video walking around the car detecting issues before you leave.

Europcar now requires an international driver’s license for US license holders - this was not advertised anywhere and almost caused a total disaster for our trip. Kayak needs to do a better job making this requirement clear if it applies.

I was not provided a detail of charges at the drop off. They said the detail will be available later. Then my credit card got hit with a $700 charge instead of $330. No email detailing the charges ever arrived. I am calling fraud department and disallowing the charge.
