The car was OK, had to jump it once because it couldn't stand the radio on and the car was very weak and sounded like it had some transmission problems. But it did it's job, can't expect much from a Renault

I made the reservation for $70 for all 5 days, thought it was a great rate. When we got there they said there was a mandatory insurance that jumped the price to OVER $250 for 5 days. Why are we booking at such a low rate and believe that is the TOTAL price as the website says then figure out we need to pay 4x the price at the spot. Then I extended for another 2 days and it was over $120 for the 2 days. Super misleading and that is definitely Kayak's fault for quoting such low rates, I wish they would honor the rate that I was quoted before I made my way to Mexico and got ripped off because I needed a car. Literally everyone was complaining about the huge insurance rates at the store.

All was great, but car died an hour after the pickup. On the other hand they handled it really well. They got to the restaurant we were in about 30min. Drove us to our hotel, and brought the replacement in about 80 min. So not too bad…. We did loose a few hour on the beach on day one though.

We reserved a large, 15-passenger van and were given 2 minivans instead. They said they would call us when a 15-passenger van became available, we never heard back. I also believe we were overcharged based on the pricing we saw online, but didn't have a screenshot or anything else to prove that 2 minivans were going to cost less than 1 large van.

Even though I already had an 11-day reservation and insurance covered by my own personal policy, they tried forcing me to either accept a $2000 deposit taken on my card or scam me into getting their insurance which was twice the amount per day of the rental itself. Given those choices, I refused the rental altogether and made alternate arrangements.

We received a car with a crack across the entire windshield - we were nervous the entire time that it was going to increase or cause us problems. Other than that, the car was comfortable and the transaction relatively easy.

Pickup from the airport was easy. We waited about 5 minutes to the shuttle to take us to the rental office that's outside of the airport. Once at the office, everything went smooth but was a little slow. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a problem. If there was urgency we would have been under stress. The vehicle was great and clean. Everyone went smoothly upon return.

You are forced to purchase third-party liability insurance as your credit card coverage or your regular insurance policy is not valid in Mexico. We were aware of this coming down and we were prepared to purchase the insurance. However, $500 for third-party liability for 10 days is ridiculous. The neighbour in the condo we were staying pays $300 for the whole year for his liability insurance .

They were scamming customers. They force you to purchase their insurance for $99-150. I saw them find random things wrong with multiple cars that were being returned — it was almost like they already knew where the damage was. Don’t believe the prices, just go to enterprise or some other reputable company.

The rental price is provided in USD, with an exchange rate of 20-30% higher than the official rate. That's not the main issue. But, the fact they make you pay in Mexican pesos with the conversion rate they provide. Is not possible to pay in cash (USD/MXN), nor in the currency of your credit card (USD). Thus, they overcharge you with at least 20% more than the original price announced/agreed. This is an abusive practice, and I would recommend find another place where to rent a car, as there are plenty not doing this.

Read the reviews for MexRentACar. The same thing about the pickup/dropoff reverting to noon happened to the couple in front of me. The insurance per day happened to me. they wanted $28 per day, but I told them I had called and it was $18 dollars per day. So I ended up getting $0 deductible for any damages to the vehicle. Regardless of this, I still took detailed video of all the car, specifically in areas of prior damage. Sure enough, during inspection, they found a "new" scratch. I showed them the video and that was enough to get them off my back. Would NOT recommend MexRentACar. Another this is that I did not know I had booked with Priceline, I thought Kayak was booking agency, it's not.

Price is good, that’s the trick…..!!!!! They pick you up at the airport, is actually vans from mexcar at the airport in San Jose del cabo. When I do my reservation I paid $130 for 5 days. I ended pain $400 because insurance is not included you never know what can be wrong or what’s the condition of the car so they tell you if something went wrong with the car you are responsible for paid any damages. Full caber is $2$$ on top of what you paid on the reservation. I consider they need to be more clear with the insurance policy, they won’t take your insurance at all it even if your credit card has one.

First of all - do not buy the insurance that is sold either on this platform, or any other. It simply does not work. It meant that they denied my pre-purchased insurance, and made me purchase their absurdly expensive insurance on the spot (what choice did I have!). It's a scam! Thankfully Kayak did refund me the insurance cost after the fact, which means I'd book through this service again. But buyer beware - the insurance costs triple what the actual car rental costs, so the deal is crappy when you review it all together. My supposed $300 rental turned into almost $1200 when all was said and done (not including gas of course).

Having the vehicle I reserved. I reserved a SUV and when I arrived at 3:30 they only had 2 vehicles available (compacts) , I refused to accept either one and had to wait and hour for the next suitable vehicle a full size sedan to be returned, fueled and cleaned. Budget and I was lucky that I didn’t slice open the oil pan or dropped the transmission on the rutted and rocky dirt roads to my destination of Cerritos Beach north of Cabo. That office needs more inventory of vehicles with basic safety features like back up camera, blind spot warning or any sensors period not available on even their premium vehicles. Then replace some of the indifferent and drag-*ss employees who contributed to the hour long wait!

Watch out this company. They are total scam. After booking the car online, I was tried to get charged extra $600 for nonsense insurance. I wasn’t informed by the insurance when I was booking the car. I cancelled my booking and they still charged me. I am taking legal action and I don’t eant anyone getting effected the same scam. Go book it from big companies, it is much more cheaper

We had a mechanical breakdown 70km from the rental location. Checkin was tedious with many forms and contract pages to read if one was fluent in Spanish and had an extra hour, staff was completely unhelpful and said we were “on our own” because we made a short trip on a sand road which was stated not to do, but we didn’t see this disclaimer in the contract. NO NELP AT ALL is what they told us. We managed to have a very helpful local get the car started again some problem in the system which staff of this company said was completely and totally our problem to fix. We did with the local and got back to Cabo after being stranded for 5 hours. Car did not start again and we contacted the agency who again said it was our fault and responsibility. Had another mechanic come to the hotel in the morning and managed to get it started (no promise if it would start again) and drove to airport, leaving car running while filling up the gas, and returned it. Agency stated we would be billed for this repair. Cheap agency that overcharged for insurance, had a car with 64000km, bald tires, damaged interior a/c controls and management with attitude! Strongly suggest NOT USING THIS AGENCY Routes or sister company. We won’t use this again! Very displeased to say the least!!!

They forced me to buy regular Liability Insurance (not SLI) for 20 dollars per day. This is supposed to be included in the car rental price as per car rental regulations in Mexico.You can add SLI if you want more coverage. I initially refused to pay so they would not rent me the car. I went to Budget car rental down the street and they verified the car rental fee includes the basic Liability Insurance as required by law. Of course Budget would rent me a car but at “walk-in” prices which was substantially more than the on-line deal I was supposed to get at Routes. So, I returned to Routes, told them what Budget said and they said I still had to buy Liability Insurance which I had to do. My opinion is Routes is a sham company in business to extort travelers illegally and should be shut down. I will be challenging the MasterCard charge for the car rental. Ken Burger

Was nobody in the office when we got there, things were pretty unorganized in the office, insurance was very expensive and confusing, car was fine and ran well. In the end they kept our deposit and said they couldn't find it was over $400!

We booked a car for $140 for 6 days. I checked several times to make sure the car rental was at the airport, not with a shuttle. When we arrived, and finally found an attendant for U-Save amongst the crowd when you exit SJD (Cabo) airport, he indicated we would take a shuttle to the car rental office. We still waited 5-10 minutes for the shuttle. When we finally arrived, they said there were mandatory insurance fees of nearly $60/day, which would bring my total closer to $500–that’s more than triple the price I had reserved with. That was supposed to be the total cost. After much back and forth, they said there’s nothing they could do and that this 3rd party insurance is required in Mexico. We were almost going to agree, about to start the paperwork, then they said they would have to charge $1500 as a deposit for incidentals. This was NOT a hold, this was going to be a charge that they would refund. I’ve rented cars before and I understand a deposit for incidentals. But this amount seemed outrageously high, especially in light of the forced insurance. We decided to skip the car rental altogether and just used taxis/Uber to get around. It cost us much much less, and definitely less headache. I would never ever book with U-Save ever again. And generally be wary of renting a car in Cabo for that matter, as they just try to impose additional costs and triple the anticipated cost.

Didn't have car big enough for my family. For an additional $120 CASH which he pocketed the guy drove us to Avis where we had to wait for a larger automobile which cost more than we were originally quoted for a rental car.

Did not rent car due to they are scammers. Get you in the door then make you buy extra insurance or you do not get car. Required purchase of extra third party insurance even though the rental details said it was optional. They try to extort you as you must sign all forms saying you agree to everything so they can get away with it. Made the rental more than double what I was quoted. You guys should no longer list them as rental options. Please do something about it. Ken Burger

Never rent from Firefly (aka Hurtz). Our total on pick up was TWICE as much as the price quoted with our reservation, and they call a Nissan Kicks (small cross over model) a full size SUV - barely fit 3 people comfortably. Two thumbs down, don’t be a sucker and rent from Firefly.

Pros:

Nothing - the car reservation wasn’t honored - please contact me as very unhappy as had to spend an additional 200 dollars to find a car last minute. Relied on kayak to deliver but instead got the opposite - a major penalty and lots over an hour looking for a car.

There needs to be more information for future customers on additional fees NOT mentioned in the advertising when booking a rental car in Mexico. Although my credit card covers collision, it did not cover liability in Mexico. It was not known to me and to other customers to my left and my right at the counter, while I was working on getting the contract worked out. The daily advertised prices are steep and will cut into peoples budget. I understand that I have to play the game, but it is very disappointing that I find this out at the counter and not before.

Pros:

The staff was super awesome and friendly, wait time was insanely ridiculous- we waited over three hours from the time we got dropped off by the shuttle until we we drove out. I’ve rented cars in other countries and this one by far one of the slowest processes ever. And remember the price kayak quotes is just for the car-not for everything else they throw in at the counter. My price on kayak was $188 and I ended up paying $572 all said and done. In the end it was kinda worth it all.

Booked 10 months in advance for standard SUV. The offered me a compact SUV for 4 people with luggage, golf clubs etc. NOT. To get larger vehicle had to upgrade . Then their mandatory insurance and taxes are ridiculous! Original rental should have been about $2000 but ended up over $4200. Of course no one else had other vehicles available so force to rent it. NEVER rent from Hertz in Cabo unless you wish to get screwed big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:

The rates are artificially low as they force you to buy very expensive insurance. Your own insurance is not allowed.

They did not have my reservation! I called customer service via Priceline and all they said is that I would just need to find another car. It took hours at the rental place and I spent $1000 on my rental versus $370 I planned on. The vehicle was also smaller. Will never use Kayak again.

They forced us to pay for their ridiculously expensive insurance when we arrived. The van they rented us barely even ran. Every check engine light was on. It was missing knobs and levers inside. Then they tried to tell us it was worth $20,000 and we would be on the hook for that amount if something happened to it and it was "our fault". We all know what that means in Mexico. Stay clear of these guys.

Not given someone else our reservation since we were not there on time. My SUV was given away to someone else because we did not get there at 12:00pm. Our copilot had a family emergency he Of course had to leave and we were held back for two hours. Needless to say I brought all my family (6 people) and the lady said, “Your car was given to someone else because you weren’t here by 12:00pm. Sorry.” And they did not accommodate us to anything else because they were out of SUV’s. She also said since I reserved it but didn’t pay for it they gave it away. I was so upset. Moral of the story being extra cash because we had to pay triple of what I had reserved my car or just pay the reservation online.

Shuttle brought us to the rental car area with 10-15 companies all located in a complex. No one was at Dollar. We walked around for a bit and the office was closed, no cars around. We ended up having to go with a random company nearby and paying much more.
