I got on one highway to go downtown from vibesdiystudio that had me on the wrong side of the street, with cars going the opposite direction on the wrong side than I'm use to. Freeways are a little tricky and get super busy at night. I would recommend driving within the speed limit to avoid any sudden maneuvers. Otherwise the streets are wide but also follow speed limit to avoid getting ticketed.

You will need to take a second shuttle to certain car rental companies to get your car so be prepared for that if you’re arriving later in the evening. I also think that the little reflective tabs on the road are not quite as nice as painted stripes so it may take a bit to get use to them. If you are in a rush to get to a show don’t drive the strip in the evening 👍🏼

I’m currently trying to have the charges to my credit card refunded. I used a card that is only digital and they refused to accept it since they don’t have card machines that take chip/tap payments. As of now I have paid twice. The employee was rude and not helpful with understanding their odd pick up process. I’ve never had to go out into the lot and pick a car I wanted and just jump in and drive off. It was easy but confusing and had to get someone from the car return area to assist me. The car was not in the best condition as far as cleanliness. The interior of the windshield was dirty with smudges and I ended up going to a car wash. Normally I would just clean the windshield myself but as a traveler the cost of winded, towels and the fact that most of it would be wasted was just as cost effective as a basic car wash. Knowing how this works now I would use fox again but I will not accept another car that had visibility issues from a dirty windshield. If customer service was good and the process explained thoroughly it would have been a much better experience. As of now I’d give it a 2 out of 5 ….. you get what you pay for.

The car had not been checked prior to it being rented to us. Within 20 minutes of renting the car, the tire pressure light kept coming on. Turns out, they had rented the car to us with a screw in the tire. Dollar then did not provide any real assistance, instead sending us on a series of calls, causing me to have to cancel plans for a vacation that I had had in the works for 10+ years. An Enterprise employee (after Dollar sent us to one of their Hertz locations, knowing it had already closed for the day), helped us by ending air to the tire, or we would have been stranded. Additionally, the pick up agent charged me for coverage I had declined. I am now in the process of fighting the charges and the additional costs I incurred due to the tire issue.

Amazing experience. One of the best employees I've ever dealt with was the Hertz employee at the pick up location. He was working by himself, but still worked as quickly as possible while still helping each of the customers diligently. My return was not processed right away, but it did get corrected quickly.

Not sure how I rented this car at the Marriott, and not the airport; but I wasted a lot of time - both on hold and dialing a number provided to only be repeatedly disconnected- with Hertz, trying to talk with a human- and when I finally got to their clearly foreign based scripted call center- they could not assist me!!!! I will NEVER rent with Hertz again!!!! And today I noticed Hertz attempted to charge my credit card additional monies; when they had no basis whatsoever to do!!! I held up my end of the contract- even returned the car three hours before I had arranged to! Hertz has lost my business!!!

Pros:

I felt like I was being discriminated. Since I got there I asked the employee if he had any car is available. The employer response we are all sold out. Then I checked on the garage there was a couple of them. I asked him if he could let me rent one of them and he’s like yeah and he gave me a very high price! He knew we wasn’t going to say no to that price! 250$ a day!!!! Then i book online and it was 110$ !!! I couldn’t believe him!

Turn-in at the Ridgecrest office was superb! Car condition was excellent! Pick-up counter was manned with just two agents for regular customers, took about 30 minutes to get to an agent. Had no clue about being able to check-in on-line. I still don’t know what the on-line check-in entails.

Car was excellent - we were not As seniors we 'fell' into the lower ride & had to 'climb' out. Once we were going it was great though. Never driven a BMW before - bit of a learning curve - but okay. We have a KIA Forte sedan (w upgraded tires) & the BMW handled about the same.

We waited in line for 3 hours. Then they refused to take our credit card because it didn’t look like a credit card. Ultimately they agreed to try it and were surprised to see it worked (which is insane by itself). When we received the car (a convertible), the roof wouldn’t open so they offered us a replacement with a fixed roof, which to us made no sense. We asked for a refund and hopefully will get it. Never booking with Avis again.

Not good! After checking to make sure they had a shuttle from the airport, they failed to mention that they close at 4 PM. My flight didn't arrive until 6 PM. I proceeded to the Airport Rental Center AVIS counter and was told that they do not honor offsite contracts even though they are the same company. I rented a vehicle from them as I need to get to my final destination, however, the price went from $58.00 to $285.00.

Booked it with the price of $220, after they added all their fees and extras it was $500. I told them I booked insurance through kayak and the guy checking me in lied and said I was signing to confirm that insurance and he was actually charging me an extra $100 for supplemental insurance. If you book with them, don’t let them rush you through checking in and don’t trust what they say for face value. Stop and read everything and ask to see detailed charges before accepting the keys.

Very efficient, the right car without any substitution. It’s across the street from the main rental center, so another very short shuttle ride after the longer ride and excessive wait for the main shuttle. Just make sure you have enough time for both rides.

Had booked car for date at 7pm. Since we picked up car at 829pm, the paper showed that information. We asked the man at counter about when we need to return. He said it's 24 hours so that it will be 829pm. When we pick up the car and asked the lady at the pickup counter she said that it was what was printed and that it was 7pm return. We mentioned how the man had explained about 24 hours but she again said that what was written was that 7pm pick up time that was the one they look for and that ii need to go back and change that information. So we did went back and that man then said he will take care of us and the lady later. He reprint the form with the new pickup time as 829pm. So if we did not go back for the change and had return Ed the car after 8pm, will we be charged extra?.

The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The ridiculous part was how long it took to get to the counter to check in. Waited almost an hour. Only one agent at the rental desk. It's obvious Payless is heavily subscribed. why not get more people in place to service your clients?

Cons:

The wait to get the car was interminable! After a long flight the last thing you want to do is stand in line with hundreds of people around you in the midst of a pandemic. Step it up Payless/Avis! Returning the car was very easy! Thank you for that.

1. Keep in mind that you have to take the shuttle from the airport to the 'main' rental car location AND THEN take another shuttle from there to the 'remote' rental car location. I ended up paying $20 to get from the main to remote location due to a crowd of people all waiting for the same small shuttle. 2. Was not aware that I would be forced to accept the approximately $90 City of Las Vegas liability insurance which I was told was required by law even if I was going to use my credit card provided insurance. 3. The first car given to me had TONS of dog hair and visible dry dog slobber all over the seats in the car. Ace immediately swapped the car out with no questions when I said I was not happy with it. Otherwise the care rental was simple and a nonevent.

I didn't like having to find a rental in the middle of the night. They work with these booking agencies and airlines but they don't work when flights are late. The other major rental companies were open. Thankfully Fox car rentals was open, with very reasonable rates, especially since I needed a car on the spot without a reservation because economy failed me. Fox was good. Economy will never get my consideration, let alone my business.

I was charged WAY more than the originally quoted price on the website. The guy at the at the rental desk when I went to pick up hassled me about insurance, and let me believe that when all was finally said and done (an hour later) that the price difference didn't actually end up being much more. In reality it was $230 over the original quote, more than twice what I had planned. He also claimed that he upgraded me to a "luxury four-door vehicle" because it was my birthday, but I never reserved a 2-door compact to begin with. It was all sketchy from the beginning. I had problems adjusting my reservation to make it longer (8 days) once it was booked. It was really difficult to even find a number to call to talk to an actual person. I had problems with email confirmations. I had to take two shuttles to get their Las Vegas rental center (which isn't recognized on GPS, by the way, and goes by the name of Verve). The only nice thing about this was the car -- I liked what I drove, and it was clean -- and the shuttle driver was very nice. Even so, I will never book with Economy again. The hidden costs and extreme difference in quoted price vs. actual price was absolutely infuriating.

Our rental did not come with a license plate. It had a registration card in the front window but that didn't stop the police from pulling us over for not having a license plate. Also the car I booked was through economy renta but was outsourced to verve rental which I have never heard of. They wanted put a hold on my credit card for way more than my actual rental cost which I was not aware of at the time of booking.

There were soo many hoops to jump through as an international renter which were never detailed upon booking. I did not have a US telephone number which meant that they couldn’t send me a verification text message. They insisted I walk to a gas station and buy a SIM card which is totally unacceptable. I ended up buying an eSIM with a digital US phone number only to then be told it won’t work. I cancelled my booking there and then but am still yet to receive my refund a week later.

Great staff and service. Car smelled like wet dog. We stopped at an auto parts store and purchased some air sanitizer to help get rid of the smell. My friends were getting nauseous because of it. And we could not use the A/C because it made it worse. Luckily we didn’t have to drive far when we were in the car.

$500 deposit on credit card required. Only allowed to go to specific states. Was not aware of either of these when making booking. Facility was dirty and run down. Chipped, dirty tile, sloppy paint job. Customer service was poor. Employee was difficult to understand because he was speaking so quickly. Had to ask him to repeat himself 3-4 times during the basic conversation. I selected “rental agency’s choice” for my car. They told me I would be in a minivan then tried to upsell me to a Nissan versa. I declined. They gave me the keys and sent me outside without telling me where the car was. Told me to hit the lock button and find it myself. Went looking for my mini van. There wasn’t one in the parking lot. Came back inside and the employee pointed towards the corner of the lot where I saw a versa. At this point I realized they’d given me a versa and never had a mini van available. It had only been offered in an attempt to upsell. The car had scrapes on the bumper. It smelled like cigarette smoke and the windshield was visibility dirty. They also sent an extremely confusing series of charges and invoices after I returned the rental. Ended up having to pay $90 for gas. It also appeared I’d been charged $400 but they were actually returning the deposit. Got two separate charges for the gas so maybe they charged me twice. I tried calling them multiple times but their automated line say to email. I emailed this morning and haven’t heard back yet. I will not be renting from this agency again. They were the cheapest but everything about it felt very sketchy and unprofessional. I’ll pay 20% more to avoid dealing with this company again. I was especially nervous about renting a car that came with scratches and a cigarette smoke smell because I didn’t want to be charged for the prior renter’s infraction. The bigger agencies would never send a car out like that.

One of the seatbelts in the front row of the van was not working and self released a number of times, putting the passenger at risk. By the time we noticed it was a repeating failure, we were too far away from the rental company to return to exchange for a safer van. We were able to rearrange seating to ensure all our passengers safety.

The rental location was not at the airport rental center. There is apparently a shuttle to take you to Easirent but its schedule is nonexistent. Getting through the paperwork and renting a car takes 20 minutes per customer at an absolute minimum and the line is continually out the door. Their claim of unlimited mileage only applies if you don't leave the state. The Las Vegas location is very close to two state lines. This is not unlimited mileage. Easirent also has a ridiculous insurance policy. Your insurance card does not generally provide the information they require to prove you're covered so you end up buying their insurance just to be done with the whole process. By far the worst rental car experience I've ever had.

I had my credit card and my driver's license, but I needed to show proof a utility bill from las vegas. It wasn't easirent but difficult rent. How can out of state people rent a car without a utility bill and I couldn't . I'm in the top 5 best Historian tour guides in las vegas and I will never recommend EASIRENT. I would rather pay more at a different agency and have my car guaranteed.

Great customer service, Rommie waited for me to get off the bus at the RentACar and helped me into my audi A4 quick. Easy, no hidden fees, everything was upfront on the app. The drop off was easy too, Jonny got me to my bus stop after checking in the vehicle, again they were fast and made it super easy. No lines, no service table, just get picked up and dropped off. You get what you pay for, great brand spanking new car!! Will definitely rent again!

It’s a great way to see the Strip and beyond, with a little planning

The Las Vegas resort corridor couldn’t be more convenient. Hotels are packed together on or not far away from a single four-mile-long boulevard, there’s a convenient Monorail and tons of rideshares and cabs, and it’s all just minutes from the city’s international airport. If you’re coming to Las Vegas and never intend to leave the Strip, renting a car isn’t necessary. But if you want to explore some of the surrounding attractions - Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire - renting a car is a great idea, if you do it right.

If it’s your first time traveling to Las Vegas, if you look out your airplane window at the Las Vegas Strip, you might be stunned at how small it is - at least in comparison with all the mountains and desert around it. You can drive to the nation’s first and largest National Recreation Area, Lake Mead, in under an hour. The first National Park Service monument dedicated to Ice Age fossil preservation, Tule Springs, is just 30 minutes north of the resorts. Red Rock and Valley of Fire are both easy drives, too, and more and more people are visiting Las Vegas for outdoor sports. You can get to many of these places on organized tours that will pick you up right at your hotel. Licensing and mandatory paperwork to rent a car in Las Vegas

Drivers from the US, US territories and Canada need a valid driver’s license and a credit card to rent in Las Vegas. The license needs to be valid for the whole period of your rental and can’t be a digital license. International visitors coming from non-English-speaking countries whose languages are written in the Latin alphabet (like Spanish, German, and Italian) should carry an International Driver’s Permit along with their license. Travelers whose licenses are printed in a non-Latin-based alphabet must carry an IDP for translation along with their license. But it’s important to note that car companies won’t rent to you with only an IDP, since it’s not a substitute.

Types of cars available for rent in Las Vegas

There's no better place than Las Vegas to rent an outrageous car. Drive it around the 12-mile loop inside Red Rock to experience the scenery. Just don't break the speed limit.

Rental prices have historically been relatively low in Vegas since the market for rentals is huge and competitive. All the major rental companies are here, as well as smaller regional players. Typically, SUVs are popular, so expect to pay a premium, if you can find them. If you want to get behind the wheel of your dream car, Las Vegas is your city. Multiple car rental agencies rent exotic cars like McLarens, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis in town, and you can even rent a Rolls Royce Cullinan (the SUV version of the Phantom). Many will drop off your ride at your hotel; some national agencies rent exotics right from the airport; and some will rent to you for as few as four hours—just long enough to impress a date.

Where to rent a car in Las Vegas Airport

If you’re budget-minded, choosing where to rent a car in Las Vegas may require a little math. On the one hand, there’s a huge, dedicated car rental building just a couple of miles from the airport served by free shuttles and it’s open 24/7. Its rates are often lower than anything you can rent from your hotel. Here’s the catch: You’ll pay airport-specific fees like a concession recovery fee and customer facility charge, and that’s on top of the 10% state government surcharge, sales tax for car rentals of over 8%, an additional 2% Clark County rental tax and a flat $4 per day consumer facility charge. You can get out of the state government charge and facility charge by going off-property – but your daily rates might be higher. The fees and surcharges in casinos can be even higher, without the competitive airport rates.

Driving your Las Vegas rental car out of state

Most rental car companies don’t restrict driving across state lines, and some will impose a one-way fee if you’re dropping off in another state. Still, check car companies’ policies on rentals. For instance, some companies have territorial restrictions and allow you to take the car only to Arizona, California, and Utah.

What to know about car insurance in Las Vegas

You should always carry ample insurance, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to buy it from car rental agencies. Rental car companies do provide minimum required liability coverage of $25,000 in bodily injury and $20,000 in property damage coverage. But if you already carry a car insurance policy with collision or comprehensive coverage (which pays to replace or repair your rental car) or higher liability than Nevada’s minimum, that will cover you in a rental car. You might also already have coverage through the credit card you used to book the car, health insurance, travel insurance, a personal injury policy, home insurance or an umbrella policy.

It pays to look at your own coverage before you get to the rental counter. Rental agencies sell collision or loss damage waivers, which can be a good idea if you don’t have a credit card with rental car coverage, or even if you have it through your car insurance but don’t want your premium to rise if you’ve caused an accident. Like the majority of states, Nevada is a fault state, which means the at-fault driver picks up the tab.

Parking your rental car in Las Vegas

Hotel casinos have toyed with charging for parking over the years, adding it and then taking away charges when guests complained. Unlike the good old days when even valet parking was free, most hotels now charge for it – some up to $40. Some hotels provide free parking for loyal guests with a player card. In other words, it’s a mixed bag and charges seem to change on a dime. It’s best to check with your hotel directly before you arrive. Off the Strip, parking is plentiful and generally free.

Fuel and gas stations in Las Vegas

Top off your tank strategically

Las Vegas car rental agencies aren't unique in charging astronomical fuel prices to those who don't return with a full tank. Refuel in a less expensive location that's under 10 miles from the return and keep your receipt.

Nevada and all the states near and touching the West Coast have some of the highest fuel prices in the country, and there’s no remedy for that except renting a fuel-efficient, smaller car. However, as in most tourist-heavy cities, you’re likely to find the lowest prices away from the resort corridor and in residential neighborhoods. You can save on gas if you’re a member of big box stores like Costco and Sam’s Club, which discount their fuel for cardholders.

When to get a rental car in Las Vegas

The rental car industry, like the hotel industry, uses dynamic rental pricing; in other words, on holidays, during a huge convention or trade show, or other event, prices will almost inevitably skyrocket. So, just like for hotels, you might want to look at the city’s convention calendar while you’re planning your trip, especially if your dates are flexible.
