Arrived at the pickup location to then be told that the car we had booked was not available. Received a car after waiting 90 minutes, and was told it was an upgrade from the car we had booked. The car we received displayed a warning message that service was overdue by 3000km and that the engine oil needed to be changed. Will not book with Alamo again.

I booked a luxury car with manual transmission on Kayak. When I arrived at the rental pickup, I learned that they did not have any luxury cars with manual transmission. They also did not have any luxury cars that matched what I booked, even in automatic. In order to get a luxury car, I had to travel more than 20 minutes from the downtown location I had selected. I paid a premium surcharge to get my car downtown. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience for the money I spent.

It’s hard to see/find the car rental return after hours & in the dark. Also, the location to drop the key off is inside the airport. Difficult to do when you are traveling by train & not flying since the airport doesn’t open after 5am. I had to leave the keys in the car with it unlocked, because it wouldn’t stay locked when I shut the door with the keys inside. I called Hertz after they opened at 8am, which took at least 1/2 hours of cell service, which cost me 25 cents a minute. It was difficult to speak to someone, as there was no English option. I had to keep hanging up, pressing buttons & calling back until someone answered & was not a recording, then I got put on hold. I called back & finally spoke to someone who spoke a little English, but since I was on the train, the connection was really bad. Thankfully, she seemed to eventually get the gist of what I was trying to tell her (where the car & keys were), as I got an invoice in my email the next morning for the correct amount.

Pros:

the staff was ok.

Cons:

the drop off in Venice is nearly impossible to find. there are no signs or indications to find the stand that is inside a parking lot. we lost one and a half hours to find it and had to ask 8 different people.

Cons:

The instructions for drop-off could have been clearer. We had the address to the office and then had to go to the ramp--that was confusing and inconvenient. It would be better to give the address to the ramp.

Cons:

At first, the price was higher then the one stated by Kayak. Secondly, the insurance bought on Kayak is not valid for the rental. The rental guy said, that in case of any damage - I would pay the whole amount.

We reserved a midsize SUV for 4 adults and 4 large pieces of luggage. When we arrived, they claimed to have no vehicles at all available, and then “found” a huge 9-seater van. Needless to say, it is not enjoyable to drive such a vehicle around old European towns. The drop-off was equally annoying. The central Prague location has no parking lot or garage, so we were told to find our own parking nearby, go back to get the attendant, and then walk her back to the car. Overall a bad experience that we won’t be repeating.

Europcar was great! It was my 1st time using them. They explained everything clearly, provided me with a new car for my drive from Munich to Zurich. Pick up and return were smooth as can be. Invoice was accurate. I highly recommend using them!

The wasn't a USB port to charge our cell phones. Both of our phones died before we could get to a charger.

We were expecting to pay about 300 EUR for the week. When we picked up the car in downtown Munich, we were told that there would be a 300+ EUR charge for taking the car across the border into Austria, and our card was charged for over 600 EUR. We were incensed and the woman at the counter was very unpleasant -- she said that was just was Europcar charged. Given that is was a Sunday morning and we were not at an airport with other options, we still took the car. Upon returning the car, our invoice shows a final payment of about 300 EUR we were originally expecting to pay (which includes a 30 EUR fee for crossing the border) and the 600+ EUR has been returned to our card. We don't know if this was a miscommunication their part, a misunderstanding on our part or what, but we were SO MAD to pay what we thought was an extravagant hidden fee for crossing the border that it tinged the trip for us. The unpleasant woman at the counter in Munich did not do Europcar any favors, nor did she explain what was going on.

Once you get there they charge you 33 euros more for a required insurance. Price is not what they show you.

Cons:

Address on reservation didn’t match the actual location of drop off. Drop off was located almost three blocks in a different area and was extremely difficult to find as it’s all located around a very busy city and train station. We also didn’t have cell service so we couldn’t just look up a different address.

When I picked up the luxury car, the vehicle had more damage on it than what was listed on the contract. When I tried to get them to document the additional damages, they refused and basically told me to "go away". Horrible customer service.
