Top tips for hiring a car at San Salvador El Salvador Intl airport

  • The most convenient way to get from San Salvador El Salvador Intl Airport into the city is by rental car. A rented car will enable you to explore San Salvador at your own schedule and pace. Further, driving yourself in a rental car will give you the advantage of accessing areas that public transport cannot. While behind the wheel and in the comfort of your rented car, you can head for San Luis Talpa or drive to La Libertad to enjoy the fantastic surf beaches during your vacation in El Salvador’s capital city.
  • San Salvador El Salvador Intl Airport car rental companies are a little bit strict when it comes to the minimum age someone can rent a car. With that being said, you should be at least 21 years old to rent a car at SAL Airport. However, there’s a surcharge fee for car renters aged below 25, which is payable at the car rental desk during the pick-up time. Make sure to consult with your respective car supplier to know more about underage charges before you reserve a car rental at San Salvador El Salvador Intl Airport.
  • You may save some money by choosing the "pick-up and return full-tank" policy for car rental at San Salvador El Salvador Airport. This means that you need to return the rented car with the same quantity of fuel as it had during the pick-up time. Quite a number of car agencies usually charge for less fuel when their rental cars are returned. You may also avoid a one-way fee by picking up and dropping off your car rental at the same hour.
  • The most appropriate time to rent a car at SAL is the same day you arrive at the airport. The same-day car rental gives you an opportunity to enjoy relatively lower rates than booking in advance. Weekdays car rental rates are also lower than the average rental rates on weekends. The month of September comes in as the best time of the year to make an advance car reservation due to the lowest prices.

They demanded $1,500 cash deposit at the counter + $600 for insurance even though we had already purchased full coverage insurance for the rental. We had to walk away and loose the money we spent on the rental ahead of time. It was a bad experience.

If I could I would give them -5 star!! When I went to pick up the car they said they didn’t have the car that I had reserved also they wanted me to charge another insurance if they give me another car! (I really need it a 7 passenger vehicle since we were 4 and had a lot of baggage 😡) I had to go to another company to look for what ever 7 passenger vehicle they had. Really really upsetting experience for me.

Surprised charges, car was damaged and had bad axels. Lots of noise was being made when driving. It rained a couple times during our trip and the car’s windshield wipers were old and obstructed our view while driving when we tried wiping. We thought we were going to get into a major accident. When there was dirt on the windshield and tried wiping it clean there was no water put in the car. We actually had to throw water from our water bottles to help us clean the windshield. It was an overall dangerous experience. I would not rent again.

The Hyundai they gave us was not a new model, and it’s battery died after three days. Alamo responded by bringing us a Nissan Kick replacement, but it took more than two hours to get it to us. Aside from that, the staff were friendly and helpful.

They pulled some tricks that I don’t appreciate. First, they didn’t have the car category I booked. Unprofessional, but turned out to be not a big deal. Then, they didn’t accept the third party Kayak RentalCover coverage, so I had to pay twice as much to get their coverage. Last, they made me place a credit card hold of over $1000. This is unheard of. If I didn’t buy their insurance and stuck with my third party, it would have been an hold of *over $10,000.* Yes, seriously. The car ran well, was clean, and otherwise check-in and check out was fine. I will not be using Europcar again.

I was told I HAVE to get the premium insurance otherwise my deposit would be $26,000!!The receptionist kept on showing us in Spanish, I asked to have it shown in English, she did. And I was able to select no insurance, but it needed managers passcode. So I clicked back, and selected the lowest coverage and it was allowing me to choose how much deposit, $5000! At the return, they charged me $0.01 to release my deposit, which still has not been release. The car itself was comfortable, the people on the other hand, I feel they are shady.
