Awful, awful, never againPros:NothingCons:These people defrauded us. They didn't disclose on line that in the Dominican Republic there is a required $17 per day 3rd party damages insurance requirement. They then then demanded either an additional $50 per day insurance for damages to our car if we got in an accident, or a $2,500 deposit (that's right, $2,500). The insurance charges would have more than doubled the pre-paid, advertised daily rate for the car, but I turned down the car. Now I'm stuck trying to get back my prepaid $400. I tried to call the car rental numbers to cancel but no one picks up the phone. Awful, just awful!Reviewed 1 Jan. 2018

Cons:Insurance that comes with online booking of the car was as separate object and was not valid in Dominican Republic. As explained by the representative of the insurance insufficiently cover the rented car. So I was forced to buy a new insurance policy for around $ 135 and an additional deposit of $ 1100 was used on my credit card. When ordering a car through KAYAK, two separate invoices for car rental and insurance were offered. When I got to the place I realized that I was able to throw the ban into the trash at home. One big headachPros:The 2 cars I rented worked fine.Cons:When renting 2 cars on-line, I purchased insurance for both vehicles, for our 7 day trip to the Dominican Republic. While booking the rentals, I purchased vehicle insurance and paid $72 for each policy, which seemed fair at about $10/day. When I went to the counter to pick up our cars, they told me that they would not honor the insurance policies I'd purchased, and that I would need to pay them $53/day for insurance for each vehicle. This would have added $371 per vehicle for the week. No one at the car rental counter spoke English but fortunately, my son speaks Spanish. He told Sixt to cancel both rental policies and we started to leave the counter to look for a couple of cabs. This changed everything and the manager became much more conciliatory, and asked us to stay, telling us maybe we could work something out. My son was able to negotiate a much lower price for vehicle insurance and we got out of there after an hour but the whole process was very unpleasant and would not have been possible without a translator in our group. Hard to understand why the insurance policy I purchased while renting the cars would not be honored at the rental counter. This should not have happened and should not be offered at the website unless it will be honored by the rental company.Reviewed 16 Apr. 2018

MISLEADING, LONG WAIT, JUNKY CARS!Pros:The employees were very kind when they were at the counter and they are just doing their jobs, but this was a nightmare of a rental agency.Cons:First they quote you one price and then when you arrive at PUJ, they MANDATE that you get the insurance for 2.5 times the price of the car! The first car they gave me, after a two hour wait, had the trunk tied closed with a rope! I had reserved this car ahead of time and should have had an acceptable car there waiting. They tell me to come the next day to change that car - the airport was about 45 minutes each way - but fine - I go back the next day. Guess what? They didn't have a new car for me. They had my contact info and could have let me know before I drove there for nothing. Then they tell me to come back two days later - I do and they want to charge $250 US to clean the car because there is sand in it. I reminded them that this is a beach location and some sand should be expected. I then dumped the carpets off myself and they agreed the car was clean again. The pay there is about $12 US a day - so I don't know how many weeks they planned to spend to vacuum the car. Second car - kept dying! I had to keep finding people to rescue me and give the car a jump. I called and called - no one answers - not even on their "emergency" numbers. They told me it was because it was Sunday and Father's Day. The insurance company said they would come and give me a jump - but not a new battery and as soon as I turned the car off - it died again! So I went to the airport again - and NO ONE was working! Then I went again the following day and demanded another car. Finally after TWO plus more hours I get another car! Luckily I made a video of the car before I took it because when I returned it they tried to say the bumper was not as bad as it was when I picked it up. I notified them that I had a video and they dropped it. I think they are encouraged to get extra money out of each renter for any reason they can come up with! Oh - the second car - the one I returned empty because I couldn't turn it off.... they wanted to charge me for the gas! Hello - I have been driving back and forth to the airport, paying to fix your car, and even paid to get a car wash and vacuum before returning the THIRD car! NOT WORTH it ! And the trunk on the third car was broken as well - so it would hit you in the head when you were getting things in or out! Shady Practices at SixtPros:I was very satisfied with the vehicle that was provided to me. The return process was the most convenient and the gentleman gave us a ride to the gate.Cons:I was extremely dissatisfied with the initial rental. I booked through Kayak and purchased the insurance through Alliance. After a 50 min wait while the only attendant assisted 2 parties and took personal phone calls, we were finally helped. Then we are told that the insurance I purchased was invalid in DR and I needed to purchase their obligatory insurance at 3 times the rate I had purchased. No options, no flexibility, no care. It took another 30 minutes to get the car. Very unprofessional but you get the idea that they don't care because you don't have another option. Cons:very very dissatisfied. 1.They charge $1100.00 deposit on credit card which i was not expected. 2.I filled up more than i used still i have to drive to fill up more fuel which they found out that fuel guage was not working. 3.i purchase insurance amount of $36 when i reserved which was not covering so i have to buy $44 insurance with SIXT.Total insurance cost me $80 which is reduculious. 4.Person was checking car not speak or understand english 5.you can call me if you like 540-842-7000Reviewed 19 May 2017

Worst car rental experience of my lifeCons:-Mandatory $17/day insurance fee that was not disclosed anywhere at the time of booking -Clueless employee who made it a night mare to go through the process -A piece of junk car that had more dents in it than all the rental cars I have ever seen combined (also, two fender piece that were pretty much "hanging") -No returned documentation regarding the $2,500 deposit. Communication is very poor.Pros:Nothing.Cons:Trying to cancel is like pulling teeth. You have to call, no you have to do it online, but to do it online you need a pin, but there is no pin in the email so you call a different number to get that then finally when you have the chance to cancel, they don't let you even though you purchased the insurance that is very misleading in saying "full refund " but that's only for the insurance.
