Top tips for hiring a car at Akron/Canton airport

  • While Akron/Canton Airport provides arriving travelers with both public and private transportation options to both Akron and Canton, rental cars are the best alternatives, especially for those looking to explore all the sites in both cities conveniently. Since the public buses either go to Akron or Canton, driving yourself will give you the flexibility to travel to both cities. Taxis are convenient but are relatively less economical options for those who want to explore multiple destinations in and around each city. After a long flight, you also get to travel directly to your destination without having to worry about connecting with other transportation means and bulky luggage.
  • On average, it takes less than 10min for travelers to get their rental car, although this may vary depending on the arrival time. Fortunately, travelers do not need to travel far to get to the rental counters since they are all situated within the terminal. Travelers will be able to spot the counters from the baggage claim carousel. You also do not need to worry about bringing the car back later than the agreed-upon time since some rental agencies allow after-hours returns.
  • Ensure you make a mental note of the exact pick-up location of whichever car rental at Akron/Canton Airport you rent since the return location is in the same area. To make finding the return area less challenging, the airport has marked signs overhead leading to the return lot location from the entrance to the airport. Those returning vehicles after office hours should leave the keys and the rental contract at the rental desk, where they will find a dropbox.
  • An ideal time to pick up a car rental at Akron/Canton Airport is during off-peak hours at around noon. Travelers are more likely to have a wide variety of vehicles during this time since passenger traffic is less. It will also take a relatively shorter time to pick up a pre-booked car at mid-day than the morning or evening hours. Travelers can save on pick-up time by booking a rental before arriving at the bustling airport. You are likely to get stuck in slow-moving traffic if you bring back a rental anywhere between 3 pm and 6 pm when the roads leading to the airport, especially Interstate 77, are congested.
  • Book your car hire at Akron/Canton airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

The rental was okay the key fob was broken and it was hard to start. When I returned it a day early I dropped the key in the box however, I discovered that my son had left a tote in the back of the car and they dont check the cars so It is now missing with a bunch of tools at a $600 value we tried to talk to the girl at the counter and she was very uncooperative and now he has not been able to get ahold of anyone at the budget counter. We have no idea who has his tote that left with the rental vehicle.

The car was filthy on the inside! It was truly disgusting and it had been oversaturated with air freshener. I had to roll down the windows in 19 degree weather and drive to Cleveland. I was coughing much of the time. Initially the Avis line was long and when the Budget people realized there was no one at their counter, the baggage claim person told them where to go. It took a long time for one hard working Avis agent to resolve all of the issues and move the line. The return on Sunday was equally as horrible. I waited at the return section of the parking lot as directed by the sign, but no one came to check-in my return. I walked across the parking lot toward the terminal and a large woman said that she “would take my keys”. She had no name tag, no coat with an Avis logo, no hat with a logo,….I had no idea who I was giving the keys to. She could have been there to steal the car for all I knew. She said her name was Brenda and I would get an email confirming my return. I waited 7 minutes inside the terminal for the email. It never arrived, so I went to the counter, stood in line again and finally got a receipt. 25 minutes waisted when I should have been in the TSA line.

My only issue was there was nobody to check my rental back in and nobody at the desk either. So I just left the keys on the counter, hoping it was getting returned properly and that I’d receive my $200 credit deposit back. This was at Akron/Canton location.

Drop-off and pickup in Parkersburg, WV and Canton, OH were both quick and easy; neither Chicago (O'Hare and West Loop) experience was positive: slow and unfriendly at O'Hare, and unexpectedly closed office with confusing drop-off at West Loop.
