One of the real benefits of car rental at Harrisburg Airport (MDT) is that it’s convenient and cost-effective. While there is a public bus service that can take you from the airport to the center of town, this could be problematic, especially if you have a large group or you are carrying a lot of luggage. You can also utilize a taxi service or a rideshare service, but these can be pricey, especially if you need to make multiple trips while you are on your trip. That is what makes renting a car such a great option both in terms of convenience and price.
It is easy to get your car rental at Harrisburg Airport when you arrive on your flight. You will find the customer service counters for all the rental car companies that operate here right in the baggage claim area. Once you arrive at the counter you can simply show them your driver's license and they will provide you with your contract and your keys. The cars that are available to rent are parked in the lot just outside of the baggage claim area.
Returns for car rentals at Harrisburg Airport are easy as well. As you make your way down Terminal Drive at the airport, you'll see a blue sign that says Rental Car Return. This will direct you to the parking garage that houses all the rental cars. Once you are there, park your car in the appropriate location for your rental car company, lock the car, and then place your keys and your contract in the dropbox for your rental car company. If you do need to speak to a staff member about your rental car, most companies have staff on hand seven days per week from early in the morning until late in the evening.
The airport is generally the busiest during early morning hours between 5 am and 8 am and during what the airport refers to as their afternoon rush hour which occurs between 2 pm and 6 pm. During this time, you may find long wait times for your Harrisburg Airport car rental. That is why it is so important to make a reservation before you arrive at the airport, so a car is waiting for you when you arrive.
Book your car hire at Harrisburg airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

I arrived after a full day of flying across country and was exhausted. The woman handling my rental had already chosen a car which would not have been my preference. I arrived at the counter by wheelchair and explained that I needed a car with a more upright seat. She disregarded my comments and said to check the car and come back to the counter if I wanted to switch. At this point, handling my bags and walking with a crutch, this was an unrealistic expectation on her part. I managed to use the car, but found it painful getting in and out of it.
