Pros: All of the staff were friendly and helpful and their english was good. Jorge at the front desk was a super star. I'd had some challenges with my room on an earlier/previous stay and then again on my most recent stay so Jorge upgraded me to a suite. But they had remodeling construction going on and the suite was right above the noisy area so Jorge moved me to a nicer suite away from the noise and provided some other comforts to make up for the inconvenience. He really went out of his way to make me comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the servers and cooks top notch.
Cons: Unfortunately the remodeling construction was loud in the mornings if you wanted to sleep in. And although the location was central in San Jose with easy access to shops and taxi's the street noise from vendors yelling sometimes was irritating.

Pros: Location was excellent-right on the pedestrian walkway convienient to stores, restaurants, and sights. Breakfast was included and had made to order eggs, and other offerings. Wi-fi was free. Rooms were very comfortable and very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Pros: Located just off the bustling central street, the Hotel Presidente offers refined comfort in their modern-designed hotel. From friendly greeting from the staff to a tasty breakfast, our stay was pleasant from beginning to end. The location allows any traveler to find restaurants and the Teatre Nacional within minutes.
Cons: For such a modern and refined hotel, we were surprised to find the window would not lock shut! Though we were up high, this "insecurity" may cause anxiety for some; for others, like us, we prefer to have the window open at night. Our bed was also surprisingly hard while among new bathroom facilities when also in a room with new bathroom facilities.

Pros: Located on a pedestrian street within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Room faced away from the street and was quiet. Room rate included free secure parking. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful in pointing out local sites and places to eat.

Pros: My sister and I stayed one night at Hotel Aranjuez. The service was amazing and room was clean and comfortable. We were nervous because we hadn't heard good things about San Jose, but we felt safe and welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The receptionist gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and the hotel was close to most major sights. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Aranjuez!

Pros: I fish in costa rica every year. I always stay here when I arrive / leave. folks are very helpful / friendly. close to things I value. on your own, taxis can be a problem - they take care of that too. I don't use the packages they have for "things to do," but I'm certain that they are excellent value for money. highly recommended!

Pros: Friendly helpful staff in front, especially David. Convenient location in San Jose. Good breakfast from a choice of three. Comfortable room for the price. The owner Tomas was very nice and helpful.
Cons: Our safe in our room was problematic as it didn't always function. However, on a positive note they did fix it. Computer was older and rather slow though the latter may be more of an issue with the server in the area.

Pros: Well run, very clean convenient and friendly place to stay in the center of old city. Owner, Thomas, is very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Rooms are spacious with modern conveniences. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great breakfast is included in AM.
Cons: Prefer for breakfast start at 6 vs 7am. Most of our tours started around 6.30 and we missed breakfast. Would prefer a larger size pool.

Pros: Clean, safe, comfortable, and friendly and professional staff. Has gym for a quick workout. You can tell owner takes pride in his property. Breakfast is what owner likes to eat every morning and his wife makes the green hot sauce from scratch. Ended up staying three days instead of one. Location is really good for walking around downtown.
Cons: Rooms are a little dated but are nice and clean and beds are comfortable. Enjoyed stay very much.

Pros: I only stay at Taormina, It is my official "go to" place whenever I am in San Jose (I am there at least 5 times a year). The facilities are clean, the staff is nice and the rooms have been renovated within the last year as well. I love the casino/bar and restaurant and everything in downtown San Jose is walking distance.

Pros: The staff
Cons: When we got to the room we didn't have power for the lights or the ac so I called downstairs (the phone worked) and they informed me you have to insert your keycard in a slot by the door to get power. Weird but ok, I'll play along. After a couple hours of trying to get the ac to work and trying to sleep without it, I ended up calling the desk and having them take a look. They couldn't figure it out and moved us to a room right next door, which was an upgrade. The staff was great and helpful with the situation but the new ac didn't work much better. All in all, not a bad hotel. Great location, there was free breakfast we didn't get to enjoy, they opened my bottle of wine, and took great care of my complaint. However, there was a lot of construction which was a little weird to deal with and the ac is a huge thing for me. From the north and my house is constantly freezing.

Great walking location, such as, sight seeing around downtown, restaurants, shopping areas, and taxies was right there for your quick convenience, and even the city bus. Great breakfast every morning. I loved the place and look forward to returning soon.

Pros: Front desk staff was nice and friendly.
Cons: Room did not match photos at all. AC did not adjust so it was either freezing or hot. Lamps didn't work. No window in the room. Whole hotel hasn't been updated in over 20 years at least. Water from the shower shot everywhere but where it was supposed to. Sheets were stained. Not a good experience at all.
