Tips, Understand you need to find your own way to your car, via taxi or Uber into the West Palm Beach, not near the airport. The off site agency is ill equipped to handle rental vehicle in the center of West Park Beach. Inspect your vehicle throughly before taking it. Skip Hertz and try other car rental agencies that provide transportation to your car. Save yourself some money instead of being nickled and dimed.

Really no problems. There are toll roads that you have to pay extra so you should ask the rental company what their policy is.

I would suggest anybody renting a car that they add a day to their reservation so that they don’t get charged for a full day when they return the car three hours past the drop off time.
Verified travelerAug 2023
Know ahead if you’ll be driving toll roads— if so you need device. I knew I wouldn’t be; but, if traveling to nearby cities you likely would need the electronic pass for the tolls.
Verified travelerJune 2023
Getting around was fine but be weary of occasional heavy rain storms that hit the area. Make sure you know how to manage the window washer options for best driving conditions.
Verified travelerAug 2023
Go see Easirent and Patrick.
Verified travelerMay 2023
Be aware that there are toll roads, and car rental agencies may charge premiums if you take their car on them. They may rent you a toll pass so you can avoid the fees. The toll roads don't have booths to pay as you go. They bill the owner of the car.

KAYAK’s top tips for hiring a car in West Palm Beach

  • A hire car is the perfect way to explore not only the coastal city of West Palm Beach, but also the greater state of Florida and its world-famous attractions, as public transportation between cities is not widely available. Drive along the coast to take in the stunning ocean views, or hop in the car and head to the cities of Fort Lauderdale or Miami, which are only an hour's drive away from West Palm Beach and offer activities for the whole family.
  • All the big car hire agencies can be found at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), which is conveniently located about 4 miles from the city center. Car hire services are situated near the baggage claim area, which is on level one of the arrivals terminal. The companies at the airport tend to offer cheaper deals than the ones downtown or at Palm Beach.
  • West Palm Beach is a compact city in itself, which makes it easy and quick to navigate. All vehicles should stop at a red light, but a right-hand turn is allowed if there is no oncoming traffic. Summer is usually both humid and wet, which makes thunderstorms and downpours regular events there, so take extra precautions when driving in rainy weather. However, that also means there are fewer people on the roads.
  • West Palm Beach traffic isn't too bad, but if you don't want to add extra time to your travels, avoid driving between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and then again between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Rush hour traffic tends to affect more the area of Port Saint Lucie, both in the morning and in the evening. People commuting from Fort Lauderdale will also experience heavier congestion during peak hours, both when entering and exiting the city.
  • 25% of our users found a car hire in West Palm Beach for $60 or less

The speed limit in the city is typically 30 miles per hour, but it may be lower in certain residential areas, in which case the speed limit signs will keep you informed. All other roads have a speed limit of 55 miles per hour, while on highways it is 70 miles per hour. Speed limits may be different on multi-lane highways.

  • Where are the best places to park in West Palm Beach?

Street parking in West Palm Beach is usually metered and time-limited. The city also has plenty of parking garages available for those who wish to avoid the hassle of trying to find a parking space on the streets. I am normally a very patient person as it pertains to the service industry as I have been in the service industry for a number of years. But this particular location was sub par across many spectrums. They only had 2 desk staff to handle the rentals on a Sunday. There was construction (painting) going on at the same time as people leaving and coming which caused confusion with no signage or instructions. Just yellow tape everywhere. Average wait time for each party to get a rental car was about 25 minutes, where other rental car companies can get this done in 5-10 minutes and some in less than 2 minutes via a kiosk so I don’t understand how Budget hasn’t looked at a better onboarding of customers. The major point of all this is that their Point of sale system and procedures only allows inserting the chip of a credit card. I explained to the desk salesman that the insert functionality doesn’t work you will need to tap or swipe. He said well then you are out of luck. No solution, no other option. We have a credit card but no reservation. I booked through Kayak so if we paid via kayak then what would be the difference of being able to insert chip or not. This was the cherry on top. I get procedures must be followed but when your point of sale system does have the swipe, how in the world can budget say no to that capability. We went to enterprise 5 minute walk and were in and out with a rental car in less than 10 minutes. Budget needs to reflect on their POS systems and train their employees to be solution oriented.

Overall it was fine, but the car was dirty, picking up the person working the desk was unfriendly and extremely unhelpful basically doing the bare minimum and not well. The lady at the exit was better, but it wasn’t an easy and pleasant experience. The car was filthy both inside and out, with trash from previous use still in it, and cracks in the windshield and unwashed exterior.

I reserved an SUV. Upon arriving I was given an Electric SUV without being told it was an electric vehicle. I didn't notice until I started to leave. when I returned inside i was told they didn't have an SUV and was asked if I could wait until one was returned by another customer. Totally unsatisfactory. I settled for a smaller, less comfortable vehicle and it wasn't until i started to get love-bugs smashing into the windshield that I found the windshield wiper fluid was empty and the wipers in need of replacement. Sometime later in the trip the car reported a low tire pressure and I found someone before me had put a plug in the left rear tire but had not done a very good job so it was slowly leaking. When i returned the vehicle I made the agent aware of the problems with the car and let him know I filled the wiper fluid reservoir with a bug removing type washer fluid and that he needed to have the tire properly serviced so as not to strand the next customer. Nothing for nothing but the dealer didn't even offer a discount coupon for the next rental or even a simple "Thank you."

Very good. One suggestion would be to emphasize when they leave to get the rental from the office make sure they understand that They must fill out the sheet of paper outlining nicks, dings and/or scrapes, no matter the time of night or day, BEFORE they get to the exit of the rental car place. That was just a little bit unclear to us.

Not great. Spent forever on a pickup at the airport. then spent forever getting a car at the site. landed at 9, drove away in a car at noon. got there and most customers were angry about something. no one was being helped. my guess is poor organization and management. i overheard an employee call over the radio saying it was getting crowded at the counter. the response on the radio was to stop picking people up at the airport. i couldnt believe i heard that, and it explains why the shuttle driver kept waiving as he passed me by without picking me up. to me, the right answer is to fix what was happening at the site/desk instead. they did give me an upgrade which is why i gave 2 stars instead of 1. also, i highly recommend videoing your car in detail at pickup. they tried to charge me for something that was already there.

Pick up was tedious. transfer van took 3/4 hr to pick us up. Check in person was work to rule: stopped in the middle to do his own personal thing. Told us that's what you get for paying a low price (which wasn't so low)

I really want the address of the CEO of this company. I arrived at the airport with my prepaid confirmation number for my reservation at West Palm Internet at Palm Beach international Airport. I went outside search for the shuttle. The shuttle driver stopped. I was about to get into the shuttle it was after 9 o’clock at night, and the shuttle driver said we don’t have your car. We ran out of cars!! I was forced to go to an alternate car rental company which charge me close to double the amount! I believe Fox should refund me my money and match the difference that I had to pay to the new car rental company. How did a company do this? I am totally dissatisfied, angry, and looking for compensation for all of this discomfort, I faced at the Palm Beach airport. I want to write a formal letter to the CEO, letting him know what occurred, and how unhappy I am. I travel frequently, and as of now I will never use Fox again, nor will I recommend it to any of my travel companions. This experience was terrible, inconsiderate, dishonest, upsetting, and really has no excuse.

Convertible

KAYAK
I would’ve given top ratings because the Alamo manager was great. However, I specifically reserved a convertible mustang several weeks before hand and there weren’t any available during pickup. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy at all. The only other thing they had for a convertible, was a Jeep. Not realizing how terrible they are on fuel until I had to fill up again before making it to Gainesville (from WPB).

I usually rented a car at a rental agency at the airport Pam Beach International. This time, I decided to rent from an Enterprise agency located 2 miles from the airport given that it offered a price lower than the one at the airport. I was happy with the two staff at checkout (I would have given a poor rating if it were not for these 2 staff). I drove the car home 10 miles away at 12:30 p,m. and drove back to the airport at 5 p.m. to pick up my family. As soon as I got off the highway I-95 to get to the airport, I heard the thumping of a flat tire . Fortunately, I was next to a gas station and was able to park at the station. I then found out that the tire just split and found myself all shook up and distressed. A limousine driver who parked his car near by came over and mentioned that he had never seen such a case of a split tire and told me that it would have killed me if it happened while I was driving at 55 mph on I-95. I took pictures of the tire and called Enterprise Road Assistance who gave me instructions to lock the car and keep the key since I was not able to wait for the tow truck in the mental condition I was in. Next day, I called the Enterprise agency where I rented the car from. One of the managers I talked to did not seem to comprehend the seriousness of the situation where I could have been injured or worse. He told me that he would cancel my contract and gave me one day credit for future rental. One week later, I returned the key to the same manager who told me that I should have left the key in the car even though Enterprise Road Assistance told me to keep the key. The instructions are contradictory. I also found out that my contract was not yet canceled until one week later when I returned the key. The attitude of the manager is un-friendly and not welcoming. I would not go back to this Enterprise location.

I strongly suggest you rent at a more reputable company. If you do rent here, which is understandable because they are so cheap, please be very careful. Make sure you have the time to get to their far off airport location, to deal with their lack of staff or service. Make sure you are ok renting a beat up car that is likely 10 years old. And finally make sure you cover yourself with copious notes and photos because their business model seems to be to get damaged cars and then blame people for damage that was clearly already there. I guess that's how they make their extra money?

The car was lovely but that staff at Sixt was rude on both pick up and drop off. They acted as if they were doing me a favor by renting me a car. And, adding insult to injury, they over charged wildly ($600) for a tiny scrape on the HUBCAP (where it touched a curb during parallel parking)!!! I’ll never use this company again.
