TERRIBLEPros:nothingCons:renting a car through kayak was a complete fraud. online they give you one very economic price and then the final price was more than 3 times as much. kayak offered an insurance policy which I purchased and then the rental company told me that the policy there did not suffice and I had to get their own policy which was required by the government. Also, when they gave me the car it had less than half the gas tank. when i returned it on the same level they complained and charged me for gas which was double the price i payed for filling up the whole tank once. totally disappointed by the company and by kayak.Reviewed 4 Apr. 2018

Ripoff. Bait and switchCons:Price more than doubled at counter because of hidden fees and mandatory undisclosed insurance. Waited over an hour for shuttle at airport. Checkout process was very slow and return was a nightmare. I will never use this company again.Reviewed 29 Dec. 2017

FRAUDELENT!Cons:The reservation was booked on Kayak.com for approximately USD $144 for 2 days. Upon arrival they claimed to have absolutely no inventory, then, after waiting ~2 hours, they colluded with a partner rental company and charged my credit card USD $1,000.00 for a 2 day rental. Criminal!Reviewed 26 Feb. 2017

Scam and terrible servicePros:The car was great, brand new HyundaiCons:I was renting in Costa Rica (at the airport) and the attendant, Jimmy, was a scam artist motivated by shady commissions Economy must pay to rip you off. I had been warned that there are additional required fees and taxes in Costa Rica, so I knew the price was not fully inclusive. We were renting for a week and when giving me the options of ‘required’ coverage, he wrote out the totals on a piece of paper giving me three options in hand drawn boxes. He explained it would be $500 off the bat (more than I was paying for the full rental) but that I could get better coverage (lower deductible) for $550 and the best coverage which wouldn’t be that much more - $650. I said that seemed really high and wondered if he had more details on how that breaks down. He said it’s the government, they have a monopoly, nothing you can do, not their fault. So although skeptical, I didn’t know what else to do. I said I wanted the lowest one and continued with the check in. He took my credit card and charged me. Then we continued with the paper work. He had me sign two blank charge slips. I asked him why - he said it was in case there was damage or we ran off with the car. Once again, I tried to object, but saw no other options. Finally, at the end, he gave me the detailed contract to sign. At this point, he has charged my card, has two other blank slips of paper with my signature to charge, and now I see he has circled three kinds of coverage for me (with no explanation other than ‘initial here, here and here’). I read the contract and realize he has locked me into a bunch of coverage that is not required. I ask him what these different coverages are and if they are required. He talks me in circles saying the government required them. I confirm the contract says they are optional and he is forcing me into a larger price. At this point he gets snappy and says I shouldn’t say he forced me into anything, that he’s just helping and I didn’t tell him I had coverage back home, that was new information. That got me heated. I insisted he only charge what was required and the price went down to about $250. He may still have been scamming me with the $250 figure, but I was so exhausted from this ordeal that I couldn’t keep fighting with him. I’m not sure how they compensate Economy agents but from what I can tell they are incentivized to sell you on insurance you do not want/need. Total scam artists, terrible service, will never rent from them again.Reviewed 8 Jan. 2018

San Jose Economy is NOT onsite.Cons:The return site at San Jose said it was onsite, but it was off site and required a short 1 mile shuttle. There was nobody there when I dropped off the car. Just left the key in the ignition with the doors unlocked and hoped that someone that worked for Economy would get there before someone stole the vehicle.Reviewed 6 Jan. 2018

Insurance rates killPros:The fact I was able to rent a carCons:After arriving at rental office took over an hour before I had keys in hand. Very slow, cumbersome process. Insurance rates cost more daily than the actual vehicle rental. The rate to rent shown in app is deceiving.Reviewed 4 Jan. 2018

Cons:Description of car I paid for versus one I received. Service inefficiencies - took over an hour to return car (same as it was to initially rent). Purchased insurance from Allianz ahead of time for collision only to be told other insurance also required. Kayak and third party service providers NOT the way to go when it comes to renting vehicles internationally.Reviewed 3 Jan. 2018

Do not rent from economy! Scam!!Cons:They're a scam. The price you pay online is not the final price. The final price will be at least 5 times what's listed online. Do not rent from them. Shame on Kayak for allowing them to be listed in the search engine!Reviewed 21 Jan. 2018

Pros:The vehicle.. only.. it served us well as we traveled thru the countryCons:The crazy price for insurance that they don’t tell you about up front. Paid a little over 120.00 for car and 500.00 for insurance. They try to scare you into buying it, and tell you how crazy the Ticos drive. Not true.. not crazier then many countries i have traveled.Reviewed 15 Jan. 2018
