Mahaulepu Heritage Trail is a scenic pathway that winds along the coast from Shipwreck Beach to Mahaulepu Beach, passing through rugged and undeveloped terrain past caves, rocky inlets, and sand-dune cliffs. Hikers can spend time beachcombing and even whale watching along the way. Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa at Shipwreck Beach is a full-service resort that features multiple pools and a lazy river, and a concierge service to arrange local excursions.

The area around Koloa may be known for its beaches and water sports, but there is a lot to do in the surrounding mountains. You can take a day trip on a hiking tour to one of the island’s waterfalls, go ziplining through the trees, take an ATV adventure through the jungles, or even go tubing through the canals of an old sugar plantation. Staying in nearby Kalaheo or Lawai at a hotel such as Kalaheo Inn provides convenient access to the jungle and mountains north of the beaches.
