Top tips for hiring a car at Reno Airport

  • A car rental at Reno Airport is preferable for passengers who prefer a more personalized experience. This is a better option for those who do not have any particular destinations in mind but rather want to explore Reno on their own time. Moreover, there is no need to worry about what's happening with your luggage while exploring as it will be waiting at the airport.
  • The most common types of vehicles that are rented out at the airport include compact cars, sedans and SUVs. The rates for these vehicles vary depending on factors like the size of the vehicle and fuel type. Most car rental companies at Reno Airport will offer an unlimited mileage package and charge by the day or week instead of charging for every mile.
  • In case you need to return your car after hours, you will be able to do so at the airport garage and avoid paying a drop fee. You can also return your car at the airport 24h a day but will need to pay for an extra day. In case of a mechanical issue, most car rental companies at Reno Airport advise that you find a nearby auto repair shop or tow truck in areas like the Reno Industrial or Stead areas.
  • Reno Airport is usually busy at times when there are conventions or big events in the area. For instance, the Reno Air Races is a yearly event that has tens of thousands of people flying into the airport and renting cars from car rental companies at Reno Airport. As such, you may need to reserve your car rental in advance. The best part about renting a car from Reno Airport is that there are many rental companies available near the terminal and they offer free shuttles so you don't have to worry about being dropped off or picked up in heavy traffic by taxi drivers.
  • Book your car hire at Reno Airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about hiring a car at Reno Airport

  • What amenities are available at the Reno Airport car rental center?

The car rental center at Reno Airport has a number of amenities to offer. For starters, there are a variety of car rental companies to choose from within just a few dozen yards of the terminal so you will be able to find something at your price point. Furthermore, they provide free shuttles for airport drop-offs and pick-ups, which is especially convenient if you don't have any friends or family locally to pick you up.

  • What documents are needed for car rentals at Reno Airport?

Drivers must have a valid driver's license, be at least 25 years of age and provide proof of insurance to complete the rental process. Renters are responsible for any damages to the car and thus insurance is mandatory. This requirement is not negotiable, and in case there are any damages, you will be billed at the airport. Due to wildfire closing the route I was taking I needed to cancel for safety. Despite multiple routes of attemp, could not make contact with a real human at the site. Still waiting for response to get refunded. Will still use Kayak next time, just not Hertz!

As it seems with most rental companies hertz counter reps seem to have been instructed to try and fool you into buying something that isn't mandatory by saying there are "additional taxes and fees". In this case I had declined all additional insurance since I carry my own automobile insurance and credit card CDW. The hertz desk then took 15 minutes of me standing there waiting for a car to be lined up and then said I owed $50 more dolllars for additional "taxes and fees", this turned out to be their LIS or liability insurance. I asked what the additional fee was and they said it was taxes and fees and did not explain it was liability insurance. I then checked later to find this out. I initially tried to connect with support but just got an AI agent that never connected me with anyone. Overall this left a bad taste in my mouth and showed Hertz is using same deceptive playbook as most rental car companies with hidden fees.

I reserved a car from Hertz through your site on August 10, for a pickup at RNO on Sept. 22. I prepaid a portion of the charge ($171.20), leaving a balance ($54.62) due at pickup. Instead, was charged $110.64 at the Hertz desk, and told my only recourse was to call their Customer Relations/Billing phone number to resolve the issue. That proved useless, as they would not honor the stated price on my contract. I believe that $56.02has been stolen from me, and I will never rent from Hertz again. Further, if Kayak is unable to get the overcharge reversed by Hertz, I will never use your service again, and I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. The price quoted should be the price charged. Period.

Courtesy-friendliness at counter needs to be improved. Asked me how many people will be in my group. I said just me, but I had rented a minivan. I feel most comfortable being up high. She said I would have to wait for my minivan but she would upgrade me… when I get outside to pick up my car… my “ upgrade “ was a FORD ESCORT. Seriously?! I felt ripped off, but I didn’t have the time to go wait another 45 minutes in line to argue the point. Left feeling taken advantage of

Nice car, easy experience but they tried to add a $30 junk fee that I had to wait in two different lines to get removed. It’s happened multiple times to me where rental companies add junk fees on top of the agreed upon price without telling the customer just to see if they can get away with it which is unethical.

First, I received my email with a confirmation number reserving my vehicle, a Pacifica minivan. Got to the counter and the employee stated my reservation was canceled. They had no more large vehicles to rent. I did not cancel my reservation. I was in a panic as I had three children to haul around plus adults. The employee was kind enough to go in the back to speak with someone and they found me an SUV. I feel I could have been given a break on my rate as the reservation some how was canceled.

The staff from the nice guy at the counter, the girl in the booth and the friendly return guy were all fantastic. The car itself had dings all over it. It was missing paint on the driver's door. It didn't have any floor mats. Carpet was ripped or slashed on the passenger side and messed up on the driver's side as well. We were running late for a dinner appointment when we arrived or I would've never drove off in that vehicle. On the plus side, it did get us from point A to point B.

In the middle of processing my rental at the Avis desk, when I was picking up the car, the Avis computer went down. It ended up that they charged on my credit card twice for the car rental (but only once for the $200 security deposit). When I tried calling their billing, they could not find my rental and then they told me to call the Reno Airport Avis office, but the number they gave me only got me back to the same corporate automatic phone tree. Finally, there customer service office told me that it should work out when I returned the car. I returned the car yesterday morning as scheduled, but I still have not received the final bill.

I wasn't able to pick up the car because it looked like they had run out. Stood in line for three hours and maybe 10 people in the main line up were given cars. Pretty brutal so I just left and borrowed a friends car thankfully but now its very difficult to get my money back...

The wait for the car was 30 minutes. There were three employees working at one point and one employee disappeared into the office never to be seen again. Keys to the car were given to me and we had to walk to the garage and find our car. The car was covered in pollen and dirt on the outside. Inside was okay. No walk through and I had to take pictures of various dings, scratches, and a crack in the windshield for my benefit if Avis tries to come at me for this damage.
