Top tips for hiring a car from Thrifty at Edmonton Airport

  • When you land at Edmonton Airport (YEG), you can take a bus, hotel shuttle, airport shuttle, taxi or rental car to the city center, about 30 km away. Choosing to book budget car rentals at Edmonton Airport for the trip is your best choice. The rental car will be convenient and inexpensive for you, more so when you want to explore locations not covered by public transportation. The taxi might initially seem affordable and convenient but remember you will be charged for every second it spends waiting for you to explore the city's attractions like Fred Johns Park, Telford Lake and Dr. Wood House Museum.
  • Getting Budget car rentals at Edmonton Airport is easy. When you arrive, proceed to the airport parkade's Level P1 outside the terminal, where the kiosks are located. The parkade is about 50 meters from the terminal, with the Budget rental center on the far left of the entrance. You can use the free airport shuttle to get to the car rental facility if the distance sounds too far.
  • Returning your Budget car rental is as easy as renting it. At the end of your rental period, drive the rental car to the airport's parkade, take all your belongings and drop your completed contract and car keys at the counter. If you drop the vehicle outside business hours, drop the key and contract in a box in the returns area.
  • The busiest time in Edmonton Airport is during the summer, from June to August. If you will be traveling at this time, be patient because there will likely be long queues at the car rental counter. Booking a car online a week or two before you travel can save you the time spent in the queue and ensure you have a car when you land. Waiting to book Budget car rentals at Edmonton airport after you land or just a few hours before landing can leave you frustrated when you find all cars in your desired class booked.

The employee repeatedly insisted that I take additional insurance, even though I clearly stated several times that I did not need it. In the end, I was charged $92 for insurance I did not want.Reviewed 29 Apr 2026
