ScamsPros:Had a quote from priceline for $220 when the lady at the counter asked for my cc the total was $660! When i questioned the diffrence she told me that since i was using a bank debit card that i had to have their "insurance" that was $250 ... more then the car itself.... then the car came up it was the worst smelling (smoked in) car. When i question that i was told that was the only car avail even though i could see like 100 more parked there.... far and away the worst experience i have ever had..... if we had not just spent 12 hours travling and my 2 kids both under the age of 9 were not there waiting to get to the hotel I would have just walk away.Cons:Felt ripped off...Reviewed 19 Mar. 2017

Pros:I liked nothing about the experience with Thrifty and would recommend customers check how they conduct business before you book. Strong arm tactics at the counter when picking up a car. Created enough worry for us that we made calls to our local destinations to find out the truth to this practice of having to buy a toll pass for a fixed rate or face severe fines if there is a violation. Not the kind of thing you want to face when picking up a car at your final destination. Anyhow, locals said "avoid the scam" and we used surface streets avoiding the one single toll I would encounter for the entire week.Cons:Attempt by Thrifty to upcharge for a toll pass with threats of the severe fines I would pay if there was a violation. I am willing to pay any tolls that I would incur but I didn't even know if I would need to travel on a toll road. An added $60 even if I don't use the toll road in Houston? That is just not ethically correct. Shame on you Thrifty. This will be the last time I use you for my rental car needs.Reviewed 5 Nov. 2017

Cons:Pickup was at Hertz, not Thrify. That confusion led to a delay. There was only a single woman attendant when I picked up the car. Had to wait for a significant period while she attended a walk-in. She provided poor instructions on where to pickup the car, which led to another delay and confusion. The compacts were not visible anywhere in the lot, so I picked the smallest car hoping for the best, i.e. not charged for picking the wrong size. Dropoff was even worse. I was told after the fact I had to dropoff at Hertz. The attendant in the lot I pulled into erroneously would not let me drive the vehicle to the correct lot for dropoff. I notified the attendant at Hertz and she appeared horrified and unable to clear my account because the car was in the wrong lot. It was confusion and a mess from start to finish because not once was I attended by a rep from the company I had rented the vehicle from, i.e. Thrifty. Furthermore, the car was unwashed and some of the garbage had not been cleared out by the previous renter/driver. My observations should be an embarrasment to your company.Reviewed 25 Apr. 2020
