Placed the car on hold through kayak and was given a price for the set number of days I needed the car. I did not want insurance on the car as my credit card offers coverage and I was willing to accept any liability. However, once I got to the car rental, I was notified that insurance was mandatory through the car rental company, Avis. Initially, I was given a price of $148 at booking and once there they wanted me to pay approximately $500 extra for insurance! I opted to not get the car and was left careless fo the duration of my trip.Reviewed 8 Mar 2026

I had to wait 70 minutes to get to an agent with only 3people in front of me! Unacceptable! The agent was unapologetic and almost rude. I reserved a Jetta and ended up with Toyota Corolla with no explanation, and no recourse. The directions for where Avis wanted the car returned were so poorly marked, that took another 25 minutes. I will not be renting a car from Avis in the future.Reviewed 8 Mar 2026

The location I booked at had cars in the lot but didn't want to honor the rate I booked. He told me he had no cars for me and I had to contact Avis support to book me a car at another location.Reviewed 6 Mar 2026

The car had 50,000 plus miles on it and the very helpful AVIS clerk said I could return it if there were any issues. It showed signs of wear but that was ok with me. When one of the tires started losing pressure after a week or so I took it back but they didn’t have any replacements. They told me to take it to a specific tire dealer to get it fixed at no cost. The tire dealer said in addition to the leak, the front tires were bald and they shouldn’t have rented it in that condition. They replaced the front tires and fixed the leak and in under an hour.. Avis paid directly so I didn’t need to put out any money. Overall it worked out fine but Avis shouldn’t have rented the car to me without ensuring the tires were safe.Reviewed 6 Mar 2026

Lincoln Navigator was a nice rental. Clean, low miles (3k on it) and fun to drive. Only disappointment was being a 100k vehicle I felt my insurance was inadequate. So i bought Avis insurance at $50 a day almost the cost a daily rental.(which is my opinion kind of high.) I was hoping that kayak would offer some Insurance at a lower cost for Avis but was unsuccessful.Reviewed 3 Mar 2026
