Top tips for hiring a car at Bilbao Airport

  • Car hire at Bilbao Airport can be extremely easy to find once you’ve come through arrivals on Level 1. The car hire offices are situated on the ground level, outside of the terminal building, so you will need to take the lift or escalator downstairs and exit the building, they are then only a short walk from the terminal building. We recommend pre-booking your car online, and paying in advance, so you don’t need to wait. This option is also cheaper and, depending on the car hire company you choose a free shuttle service to the collection point is typically included. Upon booking remember to check the company’s location for the collection of your vehicle.
  • Bilbao Airport car hire is a great way to travel around the Basque region of Spain. The city itself is very well connected with various public transport links, including metro, buses and taxis but outside the city they are not as frequent and so getting to areas that may interest you is more difficult. For this reason, it’s a much better option to have a hire car so you can pick and choose your destinations and alleviate the need to rely on bus and train schedules.
  • Once you’ve got your vehicle, getting to Bilbao city centre is really simple. It’s only around a 15min drive away, via the N-633 and N-637 motorways. The N-637 also leads to areas of the Basque and Cantabrian coastline via the N-634, which provide stunning coastal drives. You can also connect to the same motorways in the other direction, toward the neighbouring Basque cities of Eibar, roughly 30 miles away, and San Sebastian which is around a 1h 10min drive away covering a distance of about 62 miles.
  • If you’re looking at car hire at Bilbao Airport, take note of the operating hours of your car hire company, especially if your flight arrives before opening time or if you need to return the car after closing. During the booking process you may come across some companies that require you to confirm a return date and time, while others are more flexible. It is important to check the return policy prior to booking your car as additional charges may be incurred for out-of-hours collections and drop-offs. Luckily, checking rates through KAYAK enables you to find deals that include out-of- hours returns as part of the agreement.
  • 25% of our users found a car hire at Bilbao Airport for $14 or less
  • Book your car hire at Bilbao Airport at least 6 days before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about hiring a car at Bilbao Airport

  • What documents do I need to provide to hire a car at Bilbao Airport?

To finalise your rental agreement, you will need to provide identification, such as your passport and a valid driving licence. Some companies may require your licence to have been held for at least two years, so make sure to check the company policy prior to booking your vehicle. In addition, a credit card must be presented for payment purposes, especially for any additional charges that may be incurred during the rental period.

  • Which companies are the easiest to use at Bilbao Airport?

If you’re looking for car hire at Bilbao Airport and hoping for a professional and stress-free service, then look no further than SIXT which has the most impressive ratings when it comes to customer satisfaction. Their friendly staff will make sure you receive the best service and the right vehicle for you. You also won’t have to wait long to collect your vehicle as it’s located on-site in the dedicated car parks.

  • What vehicles are recommended to hire at Bilbao Airport?

If you’re looking for a cheap deal then we recommend hiring a small or medium-sized vehicle, as these models typically have the best rates. However, if you need more room, an SUV is a good choice as the rates with various companies are very reasonable and provide the best value for money.

  • How much does it cost to hire a car at Bilbao Airport?

On average a car hire at Bilbao Airport costs $20 per day.

I had the worst experience ever renting from this rental car agency. They said my reservation was from 8 AM, but I was picking up the car around 6 PM. I wanted to drop the car 3PM the following Sunday. They did not allow me to drop the car after 8 AM. Even when I asked to pay. They charged me 120 euros extra because I wanted to go to French side for one day. Later I found out that is not the case. There is no fees required. They said if I don’t pay, I would be charged 400 euros. I got a car that was banged up all over. No backup camera and blind spot detection. There was no way to list all the damage. So I had to get the full coverage. I ended up paying 550 euros and forced to drop the car a day early. The location is also way outside of airport. Very inconvenient.
